    6:10:55 finally strength based bow. It is very true to real life. It requires a lot of strength to draw a bow and keep it in place for aiming. The stronger the bow, the more strength you need to draw it

    A way that I define 'clunky' is when animations are stiff and slow, response times are also slow and/or difficult to properly time, and attacks don't seem to land where you want to; overall the animations are rigid, weighty, and feel difficult to move with, as if everything is moving robotically instead of organically. This really doesn't look clunky at all to me. If anything, Corvus's walk animation is a little floaty (disconnect between perceived movement and actual, hyperresponsive and feels like it lacks weight), but overall it looks smooth and combat flows well so idk where the clunky aspect comes in. Maybe a little at the beginning, bc enemies are really slow and don't have many attacks, but that improves quite quickly
    EDIT: The fact that this is a 7-person team also needs to be taken into account more imo. Sure, it's a little rough around the edges, but the issues I've noticed- such as Corvus's floaty walk, lack of enemy variety, etc- are minimal and don't detract from the gameplay at all. Sure, there are amazing games done by less people, such as Hollow Knight, but that's a 2D map. 3D stuff like this requires a lot more spacial awareness during animating and is a lot of work, so the fact that this game is as polished as is with such a small team of people is really impressive imo

    because of the "floaty" walk/run animation the devs have completely dulled or removed footstep noise which for me at least is very disconnected and disjointed. Footsteps are essential. They need to be as weightly or light as your weapon movements. I don't know why so many devs get this wrong but it adds so much presence to the game character. Its such a major error IMO.

    • @Nate77HK
      @Nate77HK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think the distance covered is not consistent with the walk/run animation cycle, which creates a floaty feeling. I don't think a character that is supposed to be sneaky/shadowy like Corvus needs weighty footsteps. Some footstep would be nice, though, especially during combat or when not sneaking.

    The obscene number of people in chat complaining about the game not having VA...
    They're all acting like snobs.
    Game looks great so far. I've seen a few issues here and there, but to make the argument: no VA = bad game OR indie dev = bad game is just...awful.
    VA's (good ones that is) can charge an arm and a leg, so it's understandable that a smaller developer/team would not make that a priority.
    With all the complaining it really comes across like they are just salty they're not being read to like a baby.
    Seems like appreciation for hard work doesn't exist in the chat, only appreciation for money.

    I’m only about two hours in, so I don’t know if this is found out later, but the Claw attack only does damage if the target is wounded.
    The reason it seems like enemies have massive damage reduction when they’re getting up is because the claws don’t do any direct damage.

    • @TheOnlyGhxst
      @TheOnlyGhxst ปีที่แล้ว

      The claws actually can do direct damage, if you use certain skills/passives that modify it to do that. There are a lot of ways to play the game, but yeah, the default combat is designed for you to use sword attacks to lower their health, then finish them off with the claw.

    I like Lords of the Fallen and "Clunky" is pretty descriptive of how I played the game. Dude wearing massive armour running in and flattening enemies with little skill or grace.
    As for this game, looks good. Never been a massive fan of parry mechanics (I'm clunky, even if I did enjoy Sekiro after a lot of effort) so not for me but hope they made some money.

    • @TheOnlyGhxst
      @TheOnlyGhxst ปีที่แล้ว

      The game isn't heavily parry based. There are multiple builds you can do that change the play style. The way I built my character, I gain bonuses by doing "perfect dodges", so I don't ever need to parry anything at all. If you like souls-likes, you owe it to yourself to give this game a shot.

    This looks... like it needs polish. The premise is promising, and some mechanics look like they have potential, but damn is it rough around the edges :/ You really can tell that they wanted to make a FromSoft-like, but some things (like the Beacon Found UI element) are just straight up ripped off of the originals. I don't want this to sound negative, since it does look promising in many aspects, but the developers really do need to get a lot more experience under their belt.

      oof. First off it's like $25, made by 7 people, and feels WAY better than you're giving it credit for. the reasons to get and play this are to a) play a different game (yes it's quite different) from the two you suggest and b) to support the handful of people that worked for years to build this, so that maybe they grow and go on to do bigger and better things. This feels HELLA good for a Dev's first attempt at a sekiro-like

      @@LobosjrGaming I appreciate your take since you're the one who played it. Sorry if my comment seemed too negative, as I'm not trying to discredit the game. I just feel that for a $25 game (which isn't an insignificant amount of money for people outside the first world) it could use some refining.
      I definitely agree with the perspective of supporting a developer so they can continue making stuff and keep growing, 100%. But in the context of $25 games, there are things like Mortal Shell that feel a lot more polished in many aspects, even if they're not in the exact same vein. That being said, this is probably the best Sekiro-like attempt I've seen and that by itself says a lot. The bar that FromSoft sets is really high, and newbie devs can't be blamed for falling short of it. I'd just love to see what they do with some experience in the team.

      @LobosjrGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@AdrianVM19 interestingly, I think our views on mortal shell and this are swapped 😂 what I see everytime a game like this come out is a chunk of people all echoing a sentiment like 'unpolished' or 'clunky' without ever defining exactly what problems it has. Then others see that and continue to echo it, essentially making empty criticisms that influence others. Maybe it's because I've created my own games and worked on larger projects to see what it takes to make a game, but I have a lot of respect for what *most* of these teams put out. I just feel standards are way too high and unequal comparisons are too commonplace

      I really disliked Mortal Shell and prefer this instead, the combat itself is really fluid but the enemies need some fine tuning. @@LobosjrGaming Fair points. In my case, I think the animations looked a bit janky, and that detracted a bit from the smoothness that I enjoy in FromSoft games. Like, the character movement when walking around and the "finisher" that you do on enemies specifically looked a bit weird to me, but they might feel better when you play it. That, and the artstyle didn't totally click with me.
      Thanks for sharing your POV, though! Given your amount of experience playing these kinds of games, I respect your take and hope I don't come across as making empty criticism. Does not seem like you've actually played it. The combat is rewarding and satisfying. By far the best part about the game. Best souls like combat since Nioh 2 if we're being honest
