Odin is one of my favorite deities from any religion and one that I feel close to. The unquenchable thirst for knowledge, being a wanderer and having associations with death, being viewed as a father, being related to poetry/art, and having many contradictory values… all of that is stuff I relate to tbh
I have build my spiritual structure along Surt/Surtur, the least appreciated of the Old Gods : I acknowledge this is not immediately a friend of the Norse gods but in my view a very stable basis for further development: Wotan has a place in this structure. This is also a structure that is alive, we all together make it live.

@Gerrit Todd Yaheweh is super based. And gods can have contradictory qualities, just as great humans can. In fact, I believe it is an incontrovertible truth that contradiction is inherent in all aspects of reality, as every concept necessarily implies it's opposite.

odin reminds me so much of shiva. both very complex and represent so many spectrum's of the divine nature. i odins insanity if you will just like shivas ability to destroy our ego. people are afraid of there egos death so common people dont worship odin.
Yes it seems nowadays the worship of Odin became really similar to worshipping an all-knowing and all-powerful god from a monotheistic religion. It's not the Neo-pagans fault though. Odin became the "Alfather" in Iceland during late medieval times, and that's how he comes in the written sources closer to the public. But we must not forget the type of deity Odin was before pre-christian and even pre-viking times.

Wodan initially was the name of the Horse, who transported the dead to the afterlife realm (the Night Mare). Shamans were not clearly separated from the Wodan Mare during their sermons, thus the name Wodan was later transferred to a strong Shaman. So Wodan means something close to a guide or somebody, who shows the way.

Thank you. The asteroid Odin is transiting my Natal Frigg right now in my Natal birth chart. Odin has been calling lately and I haven't heard much from him for about 6 years, prior to this last week. I like how you mentioned that he is adaptable with the times. I sense strongly that he is adapting now. I certainly know about sacrifice but don't support the stream of consciousness that honors a deity who relishes in war and human sacrifice. If Odin is interested in me, then he will need to prove that he isn't who he was anymore and that he has truly left the past in the past. You mention the German word "Wut", as possibly from Woden / Odin. In Dutch / Afrikaans / Flemish it's even more similar to "Woden" (Odin) : "woeden" (meaning to rage). Also "woedend" for someone who's very angry.
Yes indeed does seem so (I am an Indian and born into a Hindu family). I am not sure if human sacrifices were done for Shiva, but certainly there are stories of those in the cults of Kali who was Shiva's consort as per some stories
You know I've learned a lot about the gods and Odin especially somewhat recently. I'm starting to think I might have some connection to Odin. I'm an empath with gifts that lean into the shamanic with a burning desire to heal whoever and however I can. Along with that a berserker state fueled by a desire to stop evil and wrong doings, energy vampirism and I can only assume either some sort of spiritual or past life influence. I will definitely be looking into Odin more. Thank you for all the videos and work you do man. This knowledge is legendary and should be easier to find. We Frisian called him Wedda. I dreamed of a Wlikre who shot an arraw, not at me, it was a very special arrow. And I heard the name Odin in my dreams, Years ago Thor/Tonger, voice, lightning and his Hammer Mjolner who I even use in my dreams against my enemies.
I think of Valhöll as the hall of the fallen (fallen = died in battle, einherjar ) and have often wondered if there is a connection to the modern English verb to fall? The 8 legged stallion Sleipnir I once read of the symbolism hidden in the Eddas by kennings and that Sleipnir could represent the pall bearers carrying the dead to their funeral pyre. In the same way the great spear of Odinn Gungnir represents it's will in that it never misses it'e mark but is also described in it's own name meaning the one that sways - sometimes Odinn is unsure of what he actually wants. I often wonder if Snorri deliberately left kennings in his work so that those that understood would know but it wouldn't compromise his Christianity.
Yes he probably left some clues. That's what mythologies are all about, the truth is there but it couldn't be given so willingly and freely. To achive the wisdom of the cosmos, and the gods etc. one must work for it and sacrifice a lot, it isn't easy. Norse mythology shows us that from start to finish. About Valhalla, I will obviously make a video about it as soon as I may, it's a very interesting concept and unfortunatelly very much christianised and so I will try to show the pagan pre-Viking and Pre-Germanic comprehention of Valhalla.

When you said "god of wind..." I looked outside, it's really windy today/over cast and I don't usually feel that drwn to Odin but im watching videos on him today. funny....
It makes sense that Odin would gain provincial recognition for different things because of his endless at whatever means necessary for knowledge,power, and wisdom, that he would learn and even kill for the status that the local gods held. 🤔
These videos are fantastic. Some of the very best Northern European pagan content on youtube by far. Now, when I examine polytheism from the time of the Greeks, Romans and Celts (of which my ancestors belong although I would expect to have some nordic roots too given the strong ties with Ireland). It appears that Gods were adaptable and each culture was open to adding to their pantheon with foreign gods Gallo-Roman pantheism for example during the conquest of Gaul. This seems a viable and authentic approach to neo pagan worship, in my opinion at least. Would you agree that it would be perfectly reasonable to worship Gods from all European pagan backgrounds. For example I feel connected to Cernunnos, Morrigan and Odin. I see no conflict in making offerings to all three on occasions as required. What is your opinion?
Thank you so much for your feedback, it makes me very happy. I see no conflict in making offerings to gods from diffrent panteons either. Many pagan societies were like you said, adding gods from other cultures they came in contact with. Sometimes in those aspects the Romans and Greeks are the best examples, but the Celts, Lusitanians, Germanics and the Norse also did that. Like I said in this video, Odin wasn't oritinally a god from Scandinavia and they adopted him all the same. Something that absolutely messes with the mind of more concervative modern heathens is the fact that there were as many Christian Vikings as there were pagan Vikings, all depending on the Century you look at, of course. There was a great percentage of Viking Age Scandinavians who were both at once. That's the thing with Polytheism, adding yet another deity into your current pantheon doesn't hurt... it's just beneficial. So yeah, if our ancestors did it, why shouldn't we? This was a stigma created by Judeo-Christian religions - traditions that do not allow anyone to worship anything expect the god of those traditions. Being pagan is to explore various spiritual realities, is to adapt, adopt and evolve. Paganism is constantly adapting to our current realities, progressively accompanying our lives and the changes of our societies. That's why many pagan traditions survived to this day and the tendancy is actually for oppresive religions to eventually die out.

In Nordalbingia where my ancestors are from the Sassen ( Saxons) and later from Westphalia which borders Lower Saxony my home in the Teutoburger Wald, City of Osnabruck (Osnabrugge) founded by King Charlemagne in 780 AD there are many accounts of the Irminsul being worshipped by Widikind and my ancestors in the Osning (holy woods) in the Teutoburg Forest. My birthplace is 20 mins away from Kalkriese the site of the battle where in 9 AD the Germanic tribes led by Arminius- Hermann der Cherusker annihilated 3 Roman legions the 17, 18, 19th which were never used again by Rome. Many Roman officers were sacrificed with there horses to Wotan for defeating their enemy. I have a very strong identity to my past and thank you for sharing knowledge about my ancestors which were the North Sea Germanic people who were the original Jutes, Angles, Saxons, Frisians. Great video. I had always been told that with the spelling Othin, the last two letters "in" meant "the" and "oth" meant "ecstacy" which you touched upon with "ecstatic". I enjoyed the elaborate breakdown including other languages.

Do you think Odin originated as an elemental force that over time collected attributes? it seems as with the origins of a lot of pagan deities that they began as forces of nature, even strong emotional states that eventually became deified. In that case Odin's original state of being was the rage of battle, at what stage do you think other attributes may have been added, there is certainly elements in his story where the need to know the future of things becomes dominant in his story, or was it something that perhaps was more associated with the Vanir?, there certainly seems to be a lot of sharing of traits and stories. Don't worry, you are not being annoying. I make videos also to answer people's questions and doubts if I can, if I have the knowledge for it. It seems the gods started out as being personifications of nature and having the qualities of animals. The most ancient vestiges of deities are animals, even the roman gods were once animals (The Etruscan Deities) even the jewish and hebraic god would manisfest itself in the form of animals, most often in the form of a goat. But the gods started to change and gained anthropomorphic features. We must thank the Greeks for it. Everybody else started to adopt this greek version of the deities and the gods started to have human physical characteristics. The gods in their essence were emotions and feelings as you say, the manifestation of the human mind turned into spiritual forces. Many gods, especially the European ones, such as Celtic, Lusitanian, Germanic, Norse etc., were once humans as well, who were deified or achieved a divine state through their deeds both as mortals and as spiritual entities upon physical death. The Celts used to say "Gods became heroes and heroes became gods".
I think the one aspect that appeals to me, in regards to the Northern European stories, in particular Odin's part in them is he works and molds events, to ensure that there a continuance beyond Ragnarok. The are a plethora of stories where Gods have sacrificed, or subject themselves to trials to find hidden knowledge, Prometheus, Thoth etc But you find no where in the myths around the world, where by a God would would actively seek the means to see the end coming and how to insure that they were firstly prepared to meet the threat, but the means to insure that Men and at least the descendants of the Gods survive. Many of the stories such a Mimirs well , or the learning of Seidr directly indicates this desire to gain the knowledge of the coming events, even though it showed his own death and that of his sons. Its truly a unique reflection of European culture and thought in regards to personal sacrifice, I find no parallels in any of the other stories from around the world. I'm guessing the origins of these stories are lost to time, but language is a great key to understanding the birth of these stories in our culture. I'm sure you are familiar with this image, and I'm wondering what your interpretation of this is. Do you think it is any way related to Odin stabbing or sacrificing himself, considering that the bear is connected to him?

Hello @Arith Härger I have been watching your videos non stop. What do you think of this etymological origin of the word Wuotan? "W. S. W. Anson's 1880 Asgard and the Gods surmises that "Wuotan" was originally a fully abstract cosmic force, whose name meant not "fury" originally but etymologically, quite literally, meant "what was pervasive" with the second element, "-an", issuing a meaning that renders it to be construed as signifying a single pervasive principle. According to Anson, wuot- meant " …to force one's way through anything, to conquer all opposition…" and Wuotan solidifying such as "…the all-penetrating, all-conquering Spirit of Nature…". The name Wuotan being related to, in their interpretation "(t)he modern German water, and the English wade". Anson considered those two words to be more "restricted in meaning" than was wuot itself. The less restricted implications so grew as the attribute inherent in the meaning of the name for the god. The suffix "-an" personifying, but not then anthropomorphizing, the prefix element as the absolute definitive instance, and font-head, of anything thus resembling the meaning that such said prefix element 'wuot-' would have had in nature, toward one unique divine origination of that as a general qualification." I have nothing else to back it up, but i think is an interest view on these mysterious figure.
Really cool intro! Might I suggest though, when making fake blood, use a base of corn syrup and water it down to create a liquid with some thickness. Use primarily pure red food coloring but add just the slightest amount of blue to it to add darkness and depth like real blood has. I think that would give you a real nice edge to your bloody intros!

I created my own fake blood for a photography project back in highschool, so I know from professionals talking about how to make it look realistic (movie SFX guys/gals)!

+NwoDispatcher Sorry for the long wait I've been in the hospital for a week... Mythology is the ideas that theology comes from. My favorite Nordic myth is the one about Fenrir, and how he was only able to be chained/restrained by impossible objects (such as "the breath of a fish") all wrought into a ribbon that he allows to be wrapped around him on a bet that he can break through any restraint they try to put on him. Then the theology comes from (for example) I think it's earthquakes are Fenrir trying to escape from his chains (I could be wrong though).
Very well done, but why are 99% of these video's mainly about Odin? Were many other Gods and Thor was the most popular God cause was the God for everyday person. Odin was the God for Kings, Jarls and Nobles.

Yes it seems nowadays the worship of Odin became really similar to worshipping an all-knowing and all-powerful god from a monotheistic religion. It's not the Neo-pagans fault though. Odin became the "Alfather" in Iceland during late medieval times, and that's how he comes in the written sources closer to the public. But we must not forget the type of deity Odin was before pre-christian and even pre-viking times.

Wodan initially was the name of the Horse, who transported the dead to the afterlife realm (the Night Mare). Shamans were not clearly separated from the Wodan Mare during their sermons, thus the name Wodan was later transferred to a strong Shaman. So Wodan means something close to a guide or somebody, who shows the way.

Thank you. The asteroid Odin is transiting my Natal Frigg right now in my Natal birth chart. Odin has been calling lately and I haven't heard much from him for about 6 years, prior to this last week. I like how you mentioned that he is adaptable with the times. I sense strongly that he is adapting now. I certainly know about sacrifice but don't support the stream of consciousness that honors a deity who relishes in war and human sacrifice. If Odin is interested in me, then he will need to prove that he isn't who he was anymore and that he has truly left the past in the past. I respect him on so many levels, but blood thirsty war and untamed tactics to hijack wisdom and knowledge, is not one of them.

You mention the German word "Wut", as possibly from Woden / Odin. In Dutch / Afrikaans / Flemish it's even more similar to "Woden" (Odin) : "woeden" (meaning to rage). Also "woedend" for someone who's very angry.

Yes indeed does seem so (I am an Indian and born into a Hindu family). I am not sure if human sacrifices were done for Shiva, but certainly there are stories of those in the cults of Kali who was Shiva's consort as per some stories

You know I've learned a lot about the gods and Odin especially somewhat recently. I'm starting to think I might have some connection to Odin. I'm an empath with gifts that lean into the shamanic with a burning desire to heal whoever and however I can. Along with that a berserker state fueled by a desire to stop evil and wrong doings, energy vampirism and I can only assume either some sort of spiritual or past life influence. I will definitely be looking into Odin more. Thank you for all the videos and work you do man. This knowledge is legendary and should be easier to find. Really appreciate your efforts in educating the people.

I think of Valhöll as the hall of the fallen (fallen = died in battle, einherjar ) and have often wondered if there is a connection to the modern English verb to fall?
The 8 legged stallion Sleipnir I once read of the symbolism hidden in the Eddas by kennings and that Sleipnir could represent the pall bearers carrying the dead to their funeral pyre. In the same way the great spear of Odinn Gungnir represents it's will in that it never misses it'e mark but is also described in it's own name meaning the one that sways - sometimes Odinn is unsure of what he actually wants.
I often wonder if Snorri deliberately left kennings in his work so that those that understood would know but it wouldn't compromise his Christianity.
Yes he probably left some clues. That's what mythologies are all about, the truth is there but it couldn't be given so willingly and freely. To achive the wisdom of the cosmos, and the gods etc. one must work for it and sacrifice a lot, it isn't easy. Norse mythology shows us that from start to finish. About Valhalla, I will obviously make a video about it as soon as I may, it's a very interesting concept and unfortunatelly very much christianised and so I will try to show the pagan pre-Viking and Pre-Germanic comprehention of Valhalla.

It makes sense that Odin would gain provincial recognition for different things because of his endless at whatever means necessary for knowledge,power, and wisdom, that he would learn and even kill for the status that the local gods held. 🤔

These videos are fantastic. Some of the very best Northern European pagan content on youtube by far.
Now, when I examine polytheism from the time of the Greeks, Romans and Celts (of which my ancestors belong although I would expect to have some nordic roots too given the strong ties with Ireland). It appears that Gods were adaptable and each culture was open to adding to their pantheon with foreign gods Gallo-Roman pantheism for example during the conquest of Gaul. This seems a viable and authentic approach to neo pagan worship, in my opinion at least. Would you agree that it would be perfectly reasonable to worship Gods from all European pagan backgrounds. For example I feel connected to Cernunnos, Morrigan and Odin. I see no conflict in making offerings to all three on occasions as required. What is your opinion?
Thank you so much for your feedback, it makes me very happy. I see no conflict in making offerings to gods from diffrent panteons either. Many pagan societies were like you said, adding gods from other cultures they came in contact with. Sometimes in those aspects the Romans and Greeks are the best examples, but the Celts, Lusitanians, Germanics and the Norse also did that. Like I said in this video, Odin wasn't oritinally a god from Scandinavia and they adopted him all the same. Something that absolutely messes with the mind of more concervative modern heathens is the fact that there were as many Christian Vikings as there were pagan Vikings, all depending on the Century you look at, of course. There was a great percentage of Viking Age Scandinavians who were both at once. That's the thing with Polytheism, adding yet another deity into your current pantheon doesn't hurt... it's just beneficial. So yeah, if our ancestors did it, why shouldn't we? This was a stigma created by Judeo-Christian religions - traditions that do not allow anyone to worship anything expect the god of those traditions. Being pagan is to explore various spiritual realities, is to adapt, adopt and evolve. Paganism is constantly adapting to our current realities, progressively accompanying our lives and the changes of our societies. That's why many pagan traditions survived to this day and the tendancy is actually for oppresive religions to eventually die out.

In Nordalbingia where my ancestors are from the Sassen ( Saxons) and later from Westphalia which borders Lower Saxony my home in the Teutoburger Wald, City of Osnabruck (Osnabrugge) founded by King Charlemagne in 780 AD there are many accounts of the Irminsul being worshipped by Widikind and my ancestors in the Osning (holy woods) in the Teutoburg Forest. My birthplace is 20 mins away from Kalkriese the site of the battle where in 9 AD the Germanic tribes led by Arminius- Hermann der Cherusker annihilated 3 Roman legions the 17, 18, 19th which were never used again by Rome. Many Roman officers were sacrificed with there horses to Wotan for defeating their enemy. I have a very strong identity to my past and thank you for sharing knowledge about my ancestors which were the North Sea Germanic people who were the original Jutes, Angles, Saxons, Frisians. Do you think Odin originated as an elemental force that over time collected attributes? it seems as with the origins of a lot of pagan deities that they began as forces of nature, even strong emotional states that eventually became deified. In that case Odin's original state of being was the rage of battle, at what stage do you think other attributes may have been added, there is certainly elements in his story where the need to know the future of things becomes dominant in his story, or was it something that perhaps was more associated with the Vanir?, there certainly seems to be a lot of sharing of traits and stories. Sorry to be annoying, I'm appreciating the work you are doing, very informative cheers
Don't worry, you are not being annoying. I make videos also to answer people's questions and doubts if I can, if I have the knowledge for it. It seems the gods started out as being personifications of nature and having the qualities of animals. The most ancient vestiges of deities are animals, even the roman gods were once animals (The Etruscan Deities) even the jewish and hebraic god would manisfest itself in the form of animals, most often in the form of a goat. But the gods started to change and gained anthropomorphic features. We must thank the Greeks for it. Everybody else started to adopt this greek version of the deities and the gods started to have human physical characteristics. The gods in their essence were emotions and feelings as you say, the manifestation of the human mind turned into spiritual forces. Many gods, especially the European ones, such as Celtic, Lusitanian, Germanic, Norse etc., were once humans as well, who were deified or achieved a divine state through their deeds both as mortals and as spiritual entities upon physical death. The Celts used to say "Gods became heroes and heroes became gods".
I think the one aspect that appeals to me, in regards to the Northern European stories, in particular Odin's part in them is he works and molds events, to ensure that there a continuance beyond Ragnarok. The are a plethora of stories where Gods have sacrificed, or subject themselves to trials to find hidden knowledge, Prometheus, Thoth etc But you find no where in the myths around the world, where by a God would would actively seek the means to see the end coming and how to insure that they were firstly prepared to meet the threat, but the means to insure that Men and at least the descendants of the Gods survive. Many of the stories such a Mimirs well , or the learning of Seidr directly indicates this desire to gain the knowledge of the coming events, even though it showed his own death and that of his sons. Its truly a unique reflection of European culture and thought in regards to personal sacrifice, I find no parallels in any of the other stories from around the world. I'm guessing the origins of these stories are lost to time, but language is a great key to understanding the birth of these stories in our culture. I'm curious about your mention of Odin stabbing himself with a javelin, as I was just looking at one of the Torslunda plates, where it looks like a Berserker or "werebear" stabbing the horned Odin figure in the foot with a spear. I'm sure you are familiar with this image, and I'm wondering what your interpretation of this is. Do you think it is any way related to Odin stabbing or sacrificing himself, considering that the bear is connected to him?
I don't think he's stabbing Odin; the spear is just out of sight behind his foot. They're performing a spear dance.

Anson's 1880 Asgard and the Gods surmises that "Wuotan" was originally a fully abstract cosmic force, whose name meant not "fury" originally but etymologically, quite literally, meant "what was pervasive" with the second element, "-an", issuing a meaning that renders it to be construed as signifying a single pervasive principle. According to Anson, wuot- meant " …to force one's way through anything, to conquer all opposition…" and Wuotan solidifying such as "…the all-penetrating, all-conquering Spirit of Nature…". The name Wuotan being related to, in their interpretation "(t)he modern German water, and the English wade". Anson considered those two words to be more "restricted in meaning" than was wuot itself. The less restricted implications so grew as the attribute inherent in the meaning of the name for the god. The suffix "-an" personifying, but not then anthropomorphizing, the prefix element as the absolute definitive instance, and font-head, of anything thus resembling the meaning that such said prefix element 'wuot-' would have had in nature, toward one unique divine origination of that as a general qualification."

Might I suggest though, when making fake blood, use a base of corn syrup and water it down to create a liquid with some thickness. Use primarily pure red food coloring but add just the slightest amount of blue to it to add darkness and depth like real blood has. I think that would give you a real nice edge to your bloody intros!

I created my own fake blood for a photography project back in highschool, so I know from professionals talking about how to make it look realistic (movie SFX guys/gals)!

My favorite Nordic myth is the one about Fenrir, and how he was only able to be chained/restrained by impossible objects (such as "the breath of a fish") all wrought into a ribbon that he allows to be wrapped around him on a bet that he can break through any restraint they try to put on him. Then the theology comes from (for example) I think it's earthquakes are Fenrir trying to escape from his chains (I could be wrong though).

Very well done, but why are 99% of these video's mainly about Odin? Were many other Gods and Thor was the most popular God cause was the God for everyday person. Odin was the God for Kings, Jarls and Nobles.
