What I learned while trying to do this. Using a sheet of plywood and a power tool is much easier. It is also less waste and cheaper. We got a "bad" looking one for a quarter the price and it's HUGE, so you could make so many more with it. It is easier to cut the shape out, easier to keep together and takes less time. It also takes less glue. I spent 2 days TRYING to get the popsicle sticks to stay together, once I did it fell apart after I tried to cut it. I recommend this for SMALL crafts. Anything bigger is just a real hassle to get to stay together and look nice. I was able to make the Tsuba(hilt guard) without too much trouble, but cutting it out was an absolute nightmare of a chore. Make sure you have a sturdy, strong table to cut on and a VERY sharp blade(and some muscles.) That being said if you plan on trying this. PATIENCE AND TIME are your best friends. Stack the sticks as he does in the video, DON'T rush gluing them together. Be gentle with it, as it can crack and splinter when you try to cut it. Mine didn't produce nearly as much sawdust as his did, so I had to use wood glue to fill in the spaces on the Tsuba. It still came out alright. I don't know what else I could have done to make this an easier project. I used the plywood and am working on finishing it up soon.

I have the template ready, but sometimes the popsicle are thicker, So to solve this issue, I usually use sandpaper (P80) and wrap it around in a small ruler, then sand the rectangle hole of the tsuba until the blade will fit. You can also use the popsicle stick instead if you don’t have ruler. Hope this make sense

Tip: use superglue instead of Elmer’s school glue because it can hold the popsicle sticks together easier

bro i have a question how did you measure the tsuba to fit in the nichirin
I have the template ready, but sometimes the popsicle are thicker,
