Upon seeing and hearing this video, I have completely melted! How precious to hear Dmitri's voice as a child. I loved the pictures and the music. Tears came to my eyes. Renee Fleming wrote a book about the positive effects music has on our mental health and well-being. I can say without a doubt that a daily dose of Dmitri's voice works wonders!! Thank you, God, for such a gift as Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
So cute and and the talent was right there. He gave us all his talent and his beautiful voice with generosity he was really a star and we don’t will have another one for many many years. I’m so grateful that I was able to find him and enjoy listening his unbelievable voice. Thank you Dima and RIP

Dmitri Hvorostovsky, has returned to his Motherland, and how sad at such a young age. He had the benefit of being in the western world, New York, Milano, and called London his home, from which he thrilled the western ears. We have been privileged to have his talent, and he has been blessed to benefit from the western affection for his marvelous vocal gift.

An operatic baritone who whose artistry brought everything he touched to life, whose voice moved us deeply, a kind and generous man who gave charity concerts to aid sick children, even as he was suffering his own illness, a man loved not only by his family and friends, but by all his colleagues the world over. His loss is deeply felt in his personal world, the music world, and by his many fans.Let us, as admirers of Dmitri Hvorostovsky, find ways to keep his memory and his art alive. Danuta Delag, I married a wonderful baritone who also was accustomed to be awakened to sing in front of his fathers friends some 75 yrs ago in Lithuania. He was invited to sing with the Vienna Boys Choir. He had a beautiful soprano voice. The War, then coming to the USA hampered critical studying as education here is not free as in Russia then. Although he continued to study and recognized by many, money was a critical factor. Winning the Cardiff award gave our Dmitri the recognition needed to win our hearts. His natural gift, willingness and ability to polish his voice takes much work. He had the will and strength to please us almost to his untimely death. How lucky for those that heard him in person and/or on video. He is certainly missed and will not be forgotten.

But from a Western perspective I would say most of the video material on TH-cam and the comments on it is from Russians wherever they are in the world, and Rodina definitely слушит-ed… in a lot of his interviews in Russia, online and on tv, and in comments here too, he got and sometimes still gets a hard time from interviewers, over his decision to live in London, but it was always because of pride in him. He was and is Russia’s National Treasure!

I think this is my favourite of all the things he did that I have garnered from youtube for my own Dima playlist (thankyou, Sherhino for your post of this), except perhaps “гори, гори”. It seems to encompass his whole career and life, in fact, his whole life WAS his career, a destiny to sing, the way it transitions from the child to the man is really moving. That solid technique, even when he was just a child, rock solid support, what would we singers give for support like that 🙁 and the way this captures his sense of his own destiny also. It seems sentimental to talk about destiny but he was himself always referring to how he thought life was short, how he wanted the chance to keep singing as long as possible, as though he knew he was going to be cut short, in almost every interview, well, the ones with English subtitles (huh) he makes these references.
