I know this is off topic but I have a question about it. I'm currently in the process of getting all the licensing needed to have a legitimate home daycare but I do already take care of 2 kids, a little girl of 3 years and a boy who just turned 4 a couple months ago. The little girl is great! She eats what I make, takes her nap without a fuss & never hits others, the boy on the other hand is a different story, he always leaves food on his plate and goes back and forth, he hits other kids (including my Biological kids) he threatens to kick, bite and hit me + other kids. I've spoken to his mom about his behavior and she is currently taking him to therapy but for now I am really having a hard time with him, he likes to hit the little girl I care for & when I put him in time out he just won't stay & has a complete meltdown. So I'm trying something new, I'm doing some breathing exercises so that he calms down but it seems like that's not helping either. My question is, how do you handle a child like this? I don't know what else to do
In all honestly I would terminate . Him continuously hitting other children to begin with would’ve caused for immediate termination. If myself or the other children in my program are capable of being harmed in any way by this child, I would term. Especially if it’s continuous . You also need to keep in mind that if a particular child repeatedly is harmed in your program , the parents may pull their child out to protect their child . I hope I make sense . It sounds confusing , but I will try to address this in a video to clarify it more .
This makes perfect sense! Thank you so much! I have so many questions like, how would you go about it? Like how do you explain to the parents this type of situation? How much time do you give this child before you decide you have to terminate? Etc, just questions I'm looking forward to hearing the answer to in your next video! 🙂
Thank you for your video.
