    Hi Justin.
    Belaying ( or re-belaying here) off a hand ascender is acceptable because the device is statically loaded. You'll notice Adrian emphasise descending smoothly to avoid any little peaks in the load.
    A hand ascender like this one that meets the test criteria of EN567 won't be doing any damage to the ropes until around 4kN in the rescue scenario demonstrated; quite a common way of doing this rescue.
    hope this helps.

      Pro tip: you can watch series at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies recently.

    Well done! this a really simplified version of what some people consider to be a difficult rescue. You have completely taken some of what I and many others were taught by fellow IRATA trainers and smashed them out of the park, keep up the good work guys. Would love to see your take on the rescue from a loop.

    Loved how he did that, they didn’t let me do that rescue in my 2nd level 3 Sprat training

      So I'm certing for sprat 2 tomorrow and was told it's because basics and hand ascenders are rated for 1 person (it's also a toothed device so that kind of makes sense.) But I was told you can use this method in SPRAT with a duck, just be aware of slippage.

    Is it possible when you get down to the knot on the working line that you clip an extra backup ontop the descender, then clip an extra descender to where you have backup, and continue descender from there... instead of using a toothed ascender as an anchor point. Then when you reach the 2nd knot (where the former backup has been, and the descender is now), you can switch over again?
    Also, can you also use a non-toothed camming device (ie. Camp Goblin, Petzl Rescucender, Beal Monitor, etc.) as an anchor point in lieu of the hand ascender?

    • @mikemccord8399
      @mikemccord8399 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible, but if you have several hundred meters of rope out then the stretch in that back up system will go past the knot in your main line and you will be hung up. This way you keep the main line tight and you don’t have to worry about stretch in the system

    Would a Duck be considered acceptable as the re-belay instead of the hand ascender ?

  • @aerialrescuesolutions3277

    They won't let us put two people on a Basic like that. Or any toothed ascender? I love the rescue, and would certainly do just this, I'm just saying, some trainers say, " no way" Excellent videos. I see you're using auto locking Karabiners, Very nice, Jim

    Good job. In SOFT sertification we cant use that method. We dont have basics in our kit, but we could use hand descenders. We use petzl´s and they have max load of 100kg i belive.

    I didn't know that the word crab could be used as a verb. I knew that they call carabiners crabs for some reason. Not sure why he would use it as a verb though. I guess that is why he does rope access instead of teaching English.

      Should be. Ascender is mechanical version of prusik.

    • @mikemccord8399
      @mikemccord8399 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@camerondougan6947 excellent question. I would have to say you would want to climb the line with the basic on it. You sure don’t want the basic to be in play if you are in a mainline failure and fall on it.

    Hi guys, best to use 2 ids no need to rig up under the knot, for a re-belay just use 2 ids, 1 on the working line and 1 on the back up line easy!

    • @davelimson854
      @davelimson854 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is that gonna work if both knots are on the same level?

    • @lukaofthshire
      @lukaofthshire 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No it won't work of they're on the same level also won't work if it's more than about 6m from the anchors due to the stretch like he says at the start
