One of the reasons I used to watch the Comedians was this chap .. he was such a warm human being and clearly loved every single opportunity he had to make someone smile .. and his voice was glorious. I feel a little sorry for people who grew up after Ken and his like and The Good Old Days .. because I don't think they ever got to know what true, childlike, inoffensive humour was. One person I would truly love to have met and his wife and kids also seemed wonderful people.
One of my favourites from the old Comedians show, and he had a cracking voice, very much like Bing Crosby. There's another YT video of him in a studio somewhere.
Ken visited my shop with his wife, in 2001 when he was appearing in Eastbourne, talking to customers, he had the place in uproar , hilarious, people were piling in to see what they were missing, such a smashing very kind, lovely person, so good to see him on The Good Old Days and though he sings a comical song here, he had a very good singing voice. God Bless that man.
Bert Bertie Thank you Bert I thought for a second when he started to sing that it was not him singing, but I was pleasantly surprised and thought he had very good singing voice.
He used to play a Uke and did a very good impression of George Formby, I have a clip somewhere, I'll probably die looking for it though, he was one of my favs, along with Charlie Williams.
If he was performing now in this era he would be a superstar. In his own day he was way way underrated though loved by many who knew how good he actually was. He was a genius like Ken Dodd and unique
Still my favourite comedian. He once opened with " Please don't clap so loud I've got 'eadache. I was putting toilet water on before the show and the seat fell down".
Thank you Tony, yes it is Ken Goodwin even though the commentator does say Goodman if you look on the internet and put his name you will see. Have a wonderful Day.👍🎭
His lovely wife Pat, who'd been his agent and general organiser, was dying and he was her carer at that time. He did occasional, not much, work for 4 years. The show went on.
@@walverden1 The entertainment , the dress , ( most people's ) manners , were : but , I shouldn't have liked to have been unwell , or had a toothache ; and they all did , eventually , as they didn't live inside songs. On the whole , though , if you didn't live in places like Shadwell , for as long as you were alive , it must have been great to be without many of the 'successes' of later years ; they didn't know it , and we do , now it's too late to undo them. Ah yes, everything was better in those days - homophobia, misogyny, casual racism, poverty...
