Tails' eye is a reference to the red, illusory rings that appear in most Sonic.exe games.
They call it crimson ring in sonic exe blood scream and that ring can be also seen in sonic exe spirits of hell round 1

While I like the simplicity of the original design, I have slowly started to like Xenophane more. I'm not sure why.
Xenophane exists due to the original sonic.exe creator being a not so great guy
I prefer the original design honestly, this one looks more of another character than sonic.. And the purpose of sonic.exe is to be sonic, or at least resemble him the most possible.

Your in luck, I’ve watched a lot of sonic.exe back then and recognize that red ring. It is just a red ring that sonic.exe uses to teleport to his twisted dimensions, and I’m pretty sure tails enters one of the red rings and ends up dying.

The "you can't run reference" is a reference to a metal slug 5 theme. The reason they added it in was because of super Mario Bros. Z.. Because it was considered as mecha sonic's theme.

Unpopular opinion here I knew all of the flaws of 06 and it’s horrid story but I still found the buggy mess of a gameplay it has was pretty fun for me honestly

The red eye on Tails is just the red full-blooded ring Tails absorbed, after his death, Sonic trowed that ring on Tails, and so he became alive again, but still dead, controlled by Sonic.exe. And, Tails, even tho he is showing it, it won't help in any way to remove it, because the only way to remove it from his skin is by killing Sonic.exe, or killing Tails again and give him a revive ring (the green one that keeps you safe, but they can even revive).

I kinda like the new exe design. Its like a mix of Mephlies from 06 and Infinite from Forces. Complete with the Joker's smile.
Side note, my brother and I was talking about exe after Sunky was added in this mod and we realized something. It might have been possible that Infinite was a terrible Sonic.exe insert.

Doesn't change the fact that Infinite is a pretty badly written character and not a hedgehog though. But I just thought I throw that out there if anyone is interested.

so i got a pretty wacky theory, that the three corpses in triple trouble aren't actually fighting against you, but are rather trying to prepare you for exe by handing you rings, which gives you a free hit. but of course, are puppets to exe.
tails, a caring individual, tosses you rings like there's no tomorrow.
knuckles, a lot more reserved with the rings, but still hands them out frequently, fitting as he's kinda like an antihero in the first few games.(and showcases shadow notes, but that's prob just coincidental)
eggman, the bad guy, doesn't hand out many rings, but still hands them out to give you free hits, (and delay's exe's static appearance to give you more rings/intentionally defying his mortal enemy but that might just be coincidental)
sonic exe in all three verses doesn't give you ANY rings. not-a-single-ring(i guess you can argue the one at the start of knuckles) no mercy.
if you put 0.75 speed on Tails' part in instrumental, it sounds a LOT like the faker instrumental.

I think the red ring eye on Tails may not be a reference,but more of a signal or in game tutorial telling you to collect rings because they help. Which is prob why Tails looks at the player when doing it.

Nah, it's the red ring, in sonic and the spirits of hell. The red ring was required to cause illusions that would make obstacles vanish and allow you to move, the bad thing is that when any og the characters are in the illusion, sonic would be able to kill them in such a state

Tails' one eye is probably most commonly associated with the rings bf collects, or something called a "Crimson Ring" which is present in the Sonic.exe games. I haven't ever seen someone mention this, but Tails' one eye could also be linked to a character named "Pervision" which is from the Sonic.exe Nightmare games, and this character sometimes also has one eye, but I am not 100% sure on this theory.

fun fact: sonic triple trouble was released in japan as sonic and tails 2, since sonic chaos was called there sonic and tails, the art for the boxart was made by the late greg martin.

The scream heard in the background on the start of the song is a reference where sonic catch tails then the screen blacks out and there's a scream too

The red rings the comments were referring to is not the one from the sonic games. They're were sonic.exe original rings that was what I remember plot devices in the sonic.exe fangames

Me:that's actually eggman's brain stuffed in his head because sonic opened eggman's head and took his skull off and shoved his brain back in leaving his brain exposed through his eye sockets
Edit:eggman's skull is also emptied just like the other characters however sonic left tails with no eyes and mouth and for knuckles he emptied his skull and left a forced scream in his mouth with a melty look to it pretty scary if you tell me

The designs of the souls are heavily inspired by the withered animatronics from FNAF 2
Examples include:
tails weird eye and missing arm being a reference to withered Bonnie
Knuckles is kinda normal like withered foxy
And eggman has the missing hands, big teeth, gaping mouth and pointy beak/nose of withered chica
I'm sorry to ruin your dreams and all but that is just a huge coincidence. Some design aspects come from the background of "too slow". (Tails has one of his tails missing, Knuckles has his left arm missing, and eggmans head is fucked up. All witch can be found on floor of "too slow")
