If I were the executive producer of this soap opera, I’d cut out the Kanata character. He simply was not convincing as a love interest, with all of that abuse. Missaki deserves far, far better.
Nanda Fevy Wulandari While I agree that Kanata ended up a very good guy, his transformation lacked an adequate explanation. I suspect that there was supposed to be an episode 11 in this series, and that somewhere between episodes 4 & 7, Misaki called the cops on Kanata, and that he spent 3-months in a Japanese prison. That may be where his transformation occurred; after all, prison is supposed to rehabilitate wrong-doers. Right? But perhaps the advertisers didn’t like the idea of a properly functioning system of justice, and forbade its airing on Japanese TV, thus leaving only 10 episodes. Perhaps, when the Blue Ray edition comes out we will know for sure; they often have deleted scenes, and sometimes, entire missing episodes. Personally, I’d also like there to be a missing 12th episode, where Kanata stages a successful criminal appeal, and wins. In that episode, Kanata’s neurologist explains that he has a rare form of nerve damage in his hands (from a prior job giving karate lessons exclusively on breaking bricks with one’s bare hands), and therefore, though he wants to be gentle and tender with Misaki, his hands betray those signals sent from his brain.
Nanda Fevy Wulandari I once dated a girl who decided to study at The Sorbonne in Paris. It was rough news to process, but I gave her my blessings and visited often. We lasted two more years. She wasn’t, as it turned out, interested in marriage and children. My points are: 1) I appreciate Kanata’s sacrifice; who wouldn’t go the extra million miles to show extra kindness for someone as sweet as Misaki? And 2) Kanata’s transformation from sullen abuser to self-sacrificing good guy remains unconvincing..........unless each incident of demeaning violence against the incredibly sweet Misaki were involuntary, and the results of some neurological impairments duly documented by an impartial Neurologist. You know, something similar to the scene where Kanata put his hands on Misaki’s shoulders. He seemed menacing (though not even 1/10th as menacing as Kaede’s really creepy brother), but was only doing so to brace himself, because he was about to pass out.
Yes, I have a problem with men acting dishonorably. Even so, I do very much approve of Kanata after his change of heart (which I have hypothesized came from Misaki calling the police on him, and then Kanata spending 3 months in a Japanese prison, where he finally got his values sorted out).
I think he was just acting as a tsundere (a tsundere is a person who switches from being tough and cold towards a love interest into being soft and sweet), So this has nothing to do with abuse. Stop being so sensitive.
I was recently prompted to look up The Bushido Code, and found that I have been living by it my entire life by force of my essence, and not by conscious choice. This is why I have had problems with the mean and abusive side of Kanata. It also explains why I hate it when I see Misaki (or anyone in need) being mistreated whatsoever. This is how I have been living my life. It compelled me, when I was practicing law, to stand up to some very morally deformed men. I paid a huge price, but such is the price of honor. Those who chose dishonor in that skirmish have since been wiped off the board; I am still here, like a fine wine (getting better each day). Even better, instead of hauling in a bitter harvest, I am on the cusp of something monumental. What can I say, other than I am grateful and I lift my cup up to all who not only say that they stand for what is right (talking the talk), but actually walk that walk. Cheers.

In that episode, Kanata’s neurologist explains that he has a rare form of nerve damage in his hands (from a prior job giving karate lessons exclusively on breaking bricks with one’s bare hands), and therefore, though he wants to be gentle and tender with Misaki, his hands betray those signals sent from his brain.

I once dated a girl who decided to study at The Sorbonne in Paris. It was rough news to process, but I gave her my blessings and visited often. We lasted two more years. She wasn’t, as it turned out, interested in marriage and children.
My points are:
1) I appreciate Kanata’s sacrifice; who wouldn’t go the extra million miles to show extra kindness for someone as sweet as Misaki? And
2) Kanata’s transformation from sullen abuser to self-sacrificing good guy remains unconvincing..........unless each incident of demeaning violence against the incredibly sweet Misaki were involuntary, and the results of some neurological impairments duly documented by an impartial Neurologist. You know, something similar to the scene where Kanata put his hands on Misaki’s shoulders. He seemed menacing (though not even 1/10th as menacing as Kaede’s really creepy brother), but was only doing so to brace himself, because he was about to pass out.
Yes, I have a problem with men acting dishonorably. Even so, I do very much approve of Kanata after his change of heart (which I have hypothesized came from Misaki calling the police on him, and then Kanata spending 3 months in a Japanese prison, where he finally got his values sorted out).
I think he was just acting as a tsundere (a tsundere is a person who switches from being tough and cold towards a love interest into being soft and sweet), So this has nothing to do with abuse. Stop being so sensitive.
I was recently prompted to look up The Bushido Code, and found that I have been living by it my entire life by force of my essence, and not by conscious choice.
This is why I have had problems with the mean and abusive side of Kanata. It also explains why I hate it when I see Misaki (or anyone in need) being mistreated whatsoever.
This is how I have been living my life. It compelled me, when I was practicing law, to stand up to some very morally deformed men. I paid a huge price, but such is the price of honor. Those who chose dishonor in that skirmish have since been wiped off the board; I am still here, like a fine wine (getting better each day).
Even better, instead of hauling in a bitter harvest, I am on the cusp of something monumental.
What can I say, other than I am grateful and I lift my cup up to all who not only say that they stand for what is right (talking the talk), but actually walk that walk.
