I'm a metal head from the early days of Pantera and Metallica and I say that this band is pretty cool. It's refreshing to see the younger generation still rocking. I say kudos to them for the original idea of mixing metal with a japanese pop sound.
Definitely, I'm glad my generation is getting hooked to and new kind of metal, and also it is showing us the world of metal, and making us listen to classic metal and rock.Getting us to like that as well!
Anything that keeps metal and rock music alive and kicking for years to come is fine by me. I actually like Babymetal, and I also grew up on bands like Metallica, as well as AC/DC and Kiss. I'm open to things that are different from the norm, but sadly some people just aren't of the same mindset.
So happy to see comments from people who "get it." I am an old rocker from the 60's and 70's and love the direction this has taken.

Su is 17, Mo & Yu are 15. Your going to hate on kids? They have done more in rock/metal then any of the haters will EVER do. What did any of you haters do at 17? Front a band? not. Tour around the world? nope. get over it. There band is on point, killer musicians, and on board for this ride. It will be interesting to see where they go with this.
Suzuka Nakamoto is famous since when she was 4 years old appearing for ads. All 3 girls came in a right talent agency to form a group of teen pop idol which led to form Heavy Music club christened the name Babymetal. This rise to fame was unexpected and the whole world of music fans, J-pop, anime & manga, and metal fans all merged to Babymetal fandom.

I'm a huge metal fan since the dawn of metal and I've got to say that these three young women work their asses off! Big ups to Babymetal and all who enjoy their music. They genuinely seem like nice young women and I hope they continue to find success!
+povkilla That's right, I think one of the most remarkable fact is that they seem very humble and genuine through their speech, and they transmit such a good vibe, instead of hate and vain, as most pop singers/groups there are these days
+povkilla They work them like dogs. Some girls can't take it and quit. They were expecting it to be all glamour and no work. Interestingly, each idol studio elects one girl to be their president who's responsibility is to put the rest of the girls ahead of themselves and always offer encouragement, even as their own confidence might be lagging. They have to be strong and never let the other girls see weakness. In the studio where Babymetal was spawned, it probably wouldn't surprise you that Su is that girl.
shadowheart52 You're correct about everything you said. Even the bit about Su. I know that they factory like assemble these J-pop lolita bands all the time and push those girls, as you said to total exhaustion both mentally and physically. I wouldn't be able to do it, that's for sure. However, Babymetal has a totally different vibe from all the other factory assembled bands that get churned out of Japan. I'm not dissing Japan and how they build bands, if the people in Japan like that, I can as well. But Babymetal is definitely special and Su does bring a lot to the band strength wise. She's a bit older than the twins and has already seen her fair share of bands before they learned what metal was. I applaud them. They rock and so does the rest of the band of course!

しっかり受け答えしているけど年齢相応の少女っぽい雰囲気がいいね。ロリという意味じゃなくて、変に世慣れてひねこびたところがないという意味で好感が持てるよ。もちろん主観なんだけどさ、そう見えるんだ。可愛く振る舞っていても底に計算やしたたかさが透けて見えるのは嫌だからね。
They were fantastic on Saturday night, genuinely one of the best gigs I've been to in a long time. Su-Metal is turning into a great front woman, Moa/Yui are full of energy and dangerous amounts of kawaii. The Kami band are all brilliant musicians and you could definitely have a great night if you only spent it watching them play.

These girls and their band are so awesome!
Why hate them?, these 3 girls are just hard-working performers for the band and they don't know anything. They just sing and dance and do whatever the producer told them to. They didn't even know metal music before the producer form the group. The muscle behind this group are the producers & songwriters,also Kami band (their live band which is like a supergroup consist of those of the best musicians in Japanese metal scene currently). Takayoshi ohmura,one of the guitarists, is even faster than Yngwie & his every single notes are pretty damn clean.
Queen and 2 Princesses
I think that one of the appeals of this band is that they are a cruelty free child talent act...in that they can't and won't be aged out of the band and they must allow time for regular school...so their global touring schedule revolves around that...keep in mind that some members of the Beatles weren't much older than Su Metal when they got started...and that's what will be fun to watch with them as well...seeing these talented child geniuses evolve and mature into more sophisticated artists and grow into becoming well educated cosmopolitan women...and likely in a much more graceful fashion than Justin Bieber has so far.

Learning Japanese here and english is my native language but the subtitles meant nothing to me. All I can do is watch their expressions and look at their cuteness and how Moa seems to adore Suzuka and Yui is just icing on the cake...chocolate cake, of course 😉 Very nice interview...thanks!
I remember woodstock and was so happy when Black Sabbath came a long to free my soul it was hated by the "Elitists" then. I believe all music is evolving constantly and its wonderful. If you become inflexible and don't welcome new "hated" bands then you will be left behind in the music world stuck in your genre. I was skeptical about BabyMetal but they make me smile when I listen and watch them. So they're doing something right and I support them whole heartedly.

Metal, not Metal...who frikkin cares! The whole point is, do you enjoy listening to it! If so, then great, if not then move on to what you DO like to listen to.
AFAIC, they are doing something quite unique and they are obviously enjoying what they do. The band is tight, solid musicians doing some very credible work, the girls enthusiasm is downright viral and the dancing is "cute" as well as energetic and fun to watch. BUT...the biggest selling point is that Su-metal can really sing, the girl has some serious pipes no matter the genre. So why argue if it's truly metal or not metal, if you like it then it's whatever you need it to be, isn't it.

Sure in my personal opinion they are the greatest band around but I am not going to take my opinion and try to cram it down some else's throat. Like you said, if you like it than great but if not oh well you are missing out on something great.
Dave Chapman What get's on my nerves are the people that don't like BABYMETAL to the point where they will purposely got to Babymetal videos and do nothing but spread around negative energy. I really despise country and rap but I am not going to go to every rap and country song ever made just to spread negative energy, I simply just don't even bother.
Brandon2940 I'm with you there my friend, my 2 music dislikes as well, although there are some Country songs/bands that aren't "pure country" that I enjoy! I just go by "if I enjoy it, I don't care how you categorize it, I'm just gonna enjoy it anyway" kinda credo when it comes to music. BTW, now that it's the Christmas season, I'll be listening to a lot of Trans Siberian Orchestra for the next few weeks.

I love metal music. My parents introduced me to mostly older metal bands like slayer when I was really young. Now in my teen years it seems not many people my age know about the older bands. I'm glad my generation can make a different form of metal that is modern but still very interesting to hear.
It's called grind, slam, deathcore, Viking metal, crush, and so on so forth. Not baby metal

I am kinda sad that most people don't seem to get that what makes baby metal great is not the girls, it is the producer. The girls are just one high quality ingredient that he has crafted into an excellent performance.
I think it's the whole packet. From the kami Band's shredding performances to the girls' talents all put together by an incredible production team. Babymetal is fresh and fun and I hope they stay together for a long time.

I think, in a way, we are saying the same things. I agree every element of this band is excellent including the girls; Nevertheless, in the academy awards the best picture award goes to the producer, because it is recognized that s/he brought all the excellent elements together and that they knew how to work together. I think this case is analogous.

Mike Metal "I hope they stay together for a long time." I wish for the same thing. I hope the girls truly grow into rocking young women the likes to rival Scandal and Stereopony. I've even heard rumors that one or more of the girls are learning to play the guitar. Would be nice if they integrated into the band that way, too.
