"why does this matter? why do we care?"
The answer to that question is THE REASON I watch this channel. I think that there are some times sections of video where you go over deep engineering details without answering this question, and those are the parts that are just not as interesting. When Munro Live is at its best, you are asking this question and giving really good answers to this specific question. This is the core of the value for this channel, IMHO. Suggesting reasons why I, as an end consumer, would see value or care about any of these details, or giving inside-baseball insight into why other engineers should care.

Very interesting seeing the screen mount / articulation mechanism. Obviously, a fair amount up-front engineering and safety test cost went into the design, as well as continuing manufacturing cost for the cast and machined aluminum pieces. One wonders, was it done this way, and then there was a bump-up against safety regulations, or Tesla couldn’t get software to work the mechanism debugged, or is this a pre-planned opportunity to make more profit down the road selling an upgrade?
The software to run the pivot is going to be a little tricky, but not impossible. Without apparent provision for limit switches, they are going to have to re-home the mech periodically, probably by pulling it up against the I.P. with reduced drive power and looking at the back EMF from the motors to determine when the limit is hit. Without using stepper motors, keeping accuracy is going to be a little tricky as the amount of travel is going to change over time as the mech ages (grease stiffening, dirt accumulation, etc.). I’m guessing that Tesla assessed the issue and based on polling prospective purchasers found that an articulated screen was not high on the list of desired features. It is probably cheaper not to have to re-certify a new screen mount, especially the cost of having to put it through crash worthiness tests than to go ahead and have the supplier go ahead and burn through an inventory of parts probably already cast. - especially true given the limited numbers of this vehicle which will be manufactured.

Or part shortage, this motors may see simple, but if they get problem to get enough for sits, they would not use them here, especially when not many people are so excited by this feature (because they didn't ever have something like this, so they don't know what they missing).
PS Model S/X have 2nd display with information about speed etc, so less problem with regulations, I think.

Crazy it was approved in the first place, seems terribly costly for a feature that isn't all that important.

Please allow me to remind you that your audience is not full of automotive engineers. IP should at least be initially referred to as Instrument Panel. It might be a new part from the Semi, in truck you often have a side panel that sticks out. This sort of thing could be what they have on the Semi. Also ergonomically if the screen is tilted towards the driver they would have less strain on their arm and less leaning over.

Oh, that grill. I can see that as a 2 ker-chunk operation with 1 die. Every time the die went up a new part pops out that looks sleek, modern and hides a multitude of sins. Plus it helps diffuse the air across the wind screen instead of just 2 spots like my car. I can see the clever engineering in just that one part. I like the magnets too.
