Mama birds and some Daddy birds can move eggs around and bundle them together for incubating, but they don't have sense enough to push one back into the nest. Amazing. Maybe another million years will activate those neurons. pfffftt
Life is harsh, so isn’t survival. How wonderful it would be to rescue one of these unwanted chicks. A lot of work but a companion for many years. In fact, experience shows they might be the most fortunate of the clutch. At least not pecked away by the mother. May be illegal to remove a chick.
