    Groucho is absolutely the wittiest & funniest improvisational comedian I’ve ever witnessed! 👏🏼👏🏼 I & millions more like me are supremely grateful that someone shared all of these recorded treasures for so many future generations to enjoy! 😂♥️

      I agree, Groucho was the Grandfather and Robin Williams was the grandson. In a comedian lineage of course. No comedians were harmed in this comment. We love everyone. Especially vintage clips.

    All these old shows are so great, wholesome, reminiscent of yesterday. It's great to see how so many enjoyed such simple pleasures. Thanks Groucho !!

      My father had no sense of humor so I especially appreciate Groucho. When I watched the show as a kid Groucho would tell a joke and my father always said, "That's supposed to be funny?"

    The bit with the lion trainer is hilarious - his answers, the delivery, Groucho's reactions.

    The lion tamer was hilarious; he should have been on TV. He would have fit right in with the inhabitants of Hooterville or Mayberry. He is a bit reminiscent of James Stewart with his modest slow manor of speaking and tall lean figure.

    Thanks so much for uploading all thèse !
    I discovered this show because of the quote in the chapter one of The Long Walk and lucky me, since then I couldn't stop watching, for I love it so much!!
    Even it I don't get everything, just like this french girl in this épisode. 😅 It can be so really frustrating, but well, I believe it's getting better !
    Anyway I am beginning to enjoy this era very much, Groucho's humour also, and it gives me the eager to watch other shows/movies of him and from this period.
    Anyway, it you read this thanks again and goodbye ✌

      Yeah it sounds cool, I'll have a look at it ! I won't get bored these holidays xD
      Gosh, even after listening again many times and showing it to my folks I still can't understand the joke at 3:35
      Neither the explanation of the husband x)
      I just get : Don't let it upset you, but I once had a.... on a train myself. And something like "operate" after that
      And then the other man says something about a birth and a baby
      I assume that it must be some kind of salacious joke as both men seem embarassed to explain it, or I don't know. xD
      If anyone can help thanks in advance !!

    • @grouchomarx-youbetyourlife7476
      @grouchomarx-youbetyourlife7476  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Groucho said, "I once had a BERTH on a train myself"-- it was a pun on the term for a sleeping compartment for passengers on a train, and childbirth. :)

      @grouchomarx-youbetyourlife7476  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    In 1947 James Bennett Elliott Ferrier (Jim Ferrier) became the first Australian-born golfer to win one of the four major tournaments, when he won the Professional Golfers' Association of America championship. He stood 6 feet, 4 inches, and was known as "Big Jim". His combination of force, finesse and focus had earned him grim nicknames: "The Undertaker" was the most common, "The Wolf" was another.

    It wasn't all improvised! Many guests were fed lines and Groucho was reading cue cards (being held behind and to his left of the couple) Groucho was the best at wit but most of his guests were able to do their lines well.

    Groucho asked Jim the champion golfer if he ever came to Hillcrest. Hillcrest was the great Jewish country club that had a famous 'roundtable of Jack Benny, Groucho, George Burns, Georgie Jessel etc. etc. (it was called Algonquin West).. Groucho ws just once told he could not swim at another country club because he was Jewish and he asked if his daughter Melinda could swim there if she just got in up to her waist as she was only half Jewish.

    "Did he collect his severance pay?"--how could the audience miss that one?! LOL. For the first time in my life, I think I had a better repartee than Groucho about the guy mentioning he had a half sister. "you mean the half that the lion didn't get?!"

    Didn't realize pro golfer Jim Ferrier was that tall. Comes across as a very pleasant fellow here but I've heard that he was an agonizingly slow and deliberate player back in the day (early post-war years). By today's standards that probably means a bit faster than average.

    At 3:16, Colette uses the word "pregnant," which was allegedly taboo on TV. Did the Guardians of Propriety miss it, or did they just cut Groucho more slack?

    • @giavannabellucci309
      @giavannabellucci309 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I picked up on that too. That had to be a very rare incident. Maybe because the contestant said it it was allowed, or the censors just missed it.

    another "editing" note... sometime just after this the desoto logo changes from the rectangle shape to a circle connected to a rectangle... i cant nail it down better than 0518 (#54-18) to 0524 (#54-24)... even in some of the best of etc prints with the cropping and such, you can still catch the bottom of the logos to tell which it is if you're sharp.
