Gosh I remember watching that episode when it aired in TV. I was in middle school at the time and I was watching it with my dad. When the CEO was confronting the mean manager at the end, my dad turned to me and said “When you get a job, never let your coworkers or your manager treat you like how she treated him. If you’re being treated that way, tell someone higher up. If they don’t do anything about it, then leave the job. You deserve respect no matter what position of work you’re in”
I’ve kept those words in my mind and have left a job because the manager hired back an employee who left without a word and then came back and got paid more than me. I was the one who covered all her shifts when she left without a word, yet she was getting paid 50 cents more than me when she came back. I’m glad one of my other coworkers let it slip because it seems as if I was never supposed to know about it judging by her expression when she said it out loud

I work in a lumber mill. The last and only time I’ve seen a supervisor ever attempt to force 1 of his men to do something they said they won’t do for safety or job description reasons, he got punched in the eye real hard. In blue collar jobs, bossy bosses get torn a new 1. A new guy was hired (later quit a few weeks later) to run the planer. A 19yo who had no idea wat he was doing but was a gud learner. Well he was taught some basics including feeding the planer. Well he learnt that the planer dresses better at faster speeds. Well instead of running it at a pace that the others behind him cud keep up he just ran it full speed. The trimmer man and us 4 pliers were so very close to throttling him each fucking day. Bastard thought running the planer smoothly was more important than if the trimmers cud even handle the volume or if the oilers cud pile that fast or survive piling that fast. The number of times the trimmerman cursed him out for running the planer wide open on 4x4 was ridiculous. 1 coworker can get very heated sometimes and multiple times he went up to that young lad and told him if he didn’t turn it down 1 of us was gonna either die of a heart attack or throttle him, or both. Gud lad, gud to talk to, gud worker, gud learner, but cudnt figure out teamwork.
In service and white collar jobs employees who r mistreated tend to resort to getting a higher up involved. In blue collar jobs mistreated workers usually resort to telling the asshole off, and may even get violent. In that serious environment shit is taken seriously.
