I’ve never eaten shad, but I do use it for crab and sturgeon bait. The shad here look to be about 50% larger, and are so stinky that I have a cooler that is used solely for shad.
They'll move up shallow around the spawn from april-june and they'll start feeding on the threadfins in the fall. This year with the water being so low you can just about find them in any cove or up river
It was great seeing you out there! Chuck already killed it! Until next Shad run!
Lol Likewise. Theyre still there but just out deeper.
Man! Glad to see you get out brother. TM jigs never fails for me at Millerton as well 😊
Trying to get out there more but It's getting tough from shore. I need to get a yak or boat soon.
Great video brother

Now I know! Never thought to eat shad.
Great video, I have never seen anyone say go away to the bass for shad 😂
They were too much fun 😆
Cool video. Never knew we can eat american shad. Gotta visit some time
Thanks! Yea, they're pretty good.
Come and visit anytime!
@@tasmoua thanks Tas
Never tried consuming shad but since you compared it to possibly tasting as good as Crappie, I gotta give em a try!
Give them a try! The only reason most people don't eat them is because they're kind of bony.
Man thats fun to fish for shads
It sure is. Especially on light setup
You should save some for bait when striper fishing

Was up tas kool vid 😅
Can you still fish for them in January? What’s their season?

Fun times cementing to help the algorithm.
Is this recent? You think it’ll still be good this weekend? Going out there on the 18th
They might have moved out a little deeper but give it a try. Good luck!
Nice! What kind of lure do you use to catch them?
Crappie jigs
Shessh...water is super low there...still waiting for someone to spot that bus sized catfish tbh...
Lol, Maybe if we had Wels Catfish in Millerton.
Thought they were bass all these time ls lol😅
I thought so, too until I saw a school of shad come through
@@tasmoua at least you caught a few we couldn’t get any bite from them
When I first tasted shad, they taste one of the cleanest and least fishy taste!
Dang ive never seen it that LOW.
cnc is fire lol
Shad is such a hated on fish. They fight good and taste good.
Yep, that's why they're called the "poor man's tarpon"
Why is Millerton Lake dropped so low??
They did some repair to the dam
All size shad or majority big shad?
Theyre all about 10"-15". I heard they're bigger in the river
Thanks!!
that last spot lowkey sketchy. straight drop lol
It's super sketchy. Way steeper than it looks.
Pretty sure shad tastes horrible?. 😂 they smell so bad. Atleast the shad in my state. I would never eat one.
Hickory shad here in NC actually tastes good.
@@34jcub gotcha. Ours are gizzard shad here.
