    I'm planning a North/South trip myself at the moment and a friend put me onto these two videos.
    Cheers for the content Dave ✌

      Wow Deb, I personally I don’t believe in luck, I believe in intervention. If you have been spared and given more time, and that appears so, then question why and what additional value you were called to deliver to our civilisation? Thanks for watching Deb.

    Very interesting Dave. A bit of NZ history there that should not be forgotten. BTW I have enjoyed many of your videos. Keep up the great work. It is appreciated.
    In some of them you have mentioned downloading 1:50,000 topo maps to the phone. What website do you use to get these? Thank you for any advice. I have always been a map and compass man but starting to realize that technology can also be useful. Perhaps a video on this topic plus your Garmin and PLB options would be useful to your subscribers too? Just an idea. Cheers

      Thank you, Warwick, and thanks for your recommendations. Yes, it was intentional to raise the awareness of this incident, we only ever seem to speak of Erebus. I use a topo50 app called MapToaster, each island is a one off fee of approx NZD $7.

    My Great Uncle Willy had the nearest farm to where the crash took place and looked after all the search and rescue people for the duration of the search. His farm was at Gordon. I imagine all the bodies would have been on his farm before being removed. I'm of the view that the wreckage should have just been left there.

    • @OutdoorsmanDave
      @OutdoorsmanDave  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Work through the DC3 video list in description and you’ll find one where we took the ridgeline route up (same as SAR in 1963) from what most likely is the farm you speak of. There was only one body intact, the rest choppered out in bags in parts. The wreckage has spread over a few kilometres.

    Wow, thanks for sharing this intrepid journey. ❤️
    I genuinely enjoyed watching this because I love being out in the wild bush as well, it's an amazing experience eh! 🌿
    You guys are great tramping buddies and you bounce off each other well. 😊
    I could really feel the wairua in the bush and stream at the site of the crash, and I too thought of the souls of the 23 people. 💕
    I found myself wondering what the last thoughts and words were of each individual, especially the pilots when they realised that they were done. 😢
    Thanks again for a special treat in watching this.
    I am binge watching NZ tramping and bushcraft videos during this current lockdown August 2021! 😅

    Now the wreck has been publicized loudly, there will be hoards of sightseers, souvenir hunters, new tracks, and maybe guided tours. So much for keeping the place "spiritual" and peaceful. Otherwise a good video.

    • @OutdoorsmanDave
      @OutdoorsmanDave  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Purple Heart, thanks for your expression of thoughts. The army dynamited the site in 1964 in an attempt to cover it over, though I’ve had locals tell me they could see the sun shining off the wreck in the early years. I’d like to believe (IF) people could find retrievable items that they are good humans that would leave them behind. Every year we make a big noise about ANZACs in an attempt to “lest we forget”, I see this incident, not a lot differently but if we all thought the same, then what an uninteresting society we’d be living in. Thanks for your time, appreciate your perspective.

      @@OutdoorsmanDave I believe that the bulk of the site was concreted over some years later, again by the Army

    • @OutdoorsmanDave
      @OutdoorsmanDave  ปีที่แล้ว

      No concrete just rocks from dynamiting the cliff face above.
