    This footage was produced by Paul Archer from West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and shows an excellent example of a typical 'shout'.

    That was an absolutely brilliant video. Professional driving at its very best. and compliments to the few motorists who pulled over ,when they actualy saw the blue lights, rather than waiting until the sirens went on..Well done West Sussex Fire and rescue

    Great driving. Both my parents were trained to do this and they made me a very aware driver because of their skills. I have a lot of respect for all that join the emergency services. Remember, this it's just one skill they must master in order to keep us safe

      What the fuck are you going on about, my comment has nack all to do with parties and 'fun', it's about showing compassion for another human being who was trying to do the right thing and had an incident where he could have been hurt. Maybe if I push your kids off their bikes that'd be fuuny too right? Or are you no fun at parties either...cretin!

    My goodness there are some stupid commens on here.
    As the title description says "example of a typical BLR" the clue is there EXAMPLE !
    Emergency service drivers have to periodically undergo blue light run assesments in order to carry on being a blue light driver, they have to show they are capable of driving in all types of surroundings - driving conditions and traffic.
    This is not just a jolly around the countryside and towns wasting taxpayers money ffs.

    I think it helps people wake up a bit more, as well as makes it easier for road users and pedestrians to pick up where it is coming from. A constantly wailing siren might be a background noise unnoticeable to some (worrying if they are driving, I know!) but also changing tone and its sudden wail from off to on can hep a driver pin point the direction the fire engine is coming from a little better too I think.

    @urbex2007 driving on the other side of the island (or a median) is completly okay and normal.
    And here it is also completly normal that cars standing at an intersection, have to move slowly over the red light into the intersection when an emergency vehicle approaches

    Was that Bognor Regis I saw there? I'm from Australia and haven't been there since 2002.
    I drive a NSW Rural Fire Service truck and our trucks change from wail to yelp and back again when you hit the horn as well. Only Hi-Lo has to be dialled in manually.

    Because the rules and regulations say that they are only suppose to have the sirens on when their is motorist near by or when approaching a junction otherwise it's only the blues no siren, as it causes a disturbance.

    • @Jessebella1
      @Jessebella1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      mmm not so, the sirens are also a very good indicator for pedestrians walking and so when cars are parked on one or both sides they are also in use and should be, because people cross between those and wont hear otherwise that this is coming. Besides who the hell would complain about the noise.

    The main purpose of "blue light runs" are to make the emergency vehicle drivers aware of possible dangers when out in real emergencies. It also presents the opportunity for drivers to be assessed on how skilled they are at driving with their lights and sirens on. Even though this is a "fake" emergency, it could well lead to more people's lives being saved

    @urbex2007 I would take issue with your criticisms. 1. No one put in danger at junction , No vehicles emerging intending to turn left no unseen vehicles approaching either otherwise pedestrian would not be casually walking across, driver kept to centre of road until past junction. 2. lawful for driver to use other side of island, there is no one in sight! safer to use opp side, than having to slow down and jink between island and white car at speed in a vehicle loaded with water

      Keep in mind that it's a 'marked emergency services vehicle'' and operating under flashing lights ...
      Sirens are used an AUDIBLE warning of the approach of an emergency vehicle and there are longish periods in the vid where that audible warning was clearly unnecessary.
      Hope this helps :-)

    I don't think you understand. This "typical shout" is only for making sure drivers can safely and responsibly drive the emergency vehicles in traffic of many densities. Light runs are usually recorded for later reference - they are usually a long length anyway. There was no emergency that the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were responding to in this certain appliance at this time.
    Furthermore, there is no zooming in at 9:35 that is clearly visible.

    Nice video but what a route they took! Using Google Maps & Street View I worked out that this started at the Fire Station in St Paul's Road Chichester to Nyton Road - a distance of 5.9 miles and predicted driving time of 16 mins. They seem to have driven to Bognor Regis - headed out towards Littlehampton and finally headed back to their destination via Yapton and Barnham, distance of 14.7m and predicted journey of 34 mins! Obviously they could have been given the wrong destination originally

  • @znra251
    @znra251 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @urbex2007 You clearly have no advanced level driver training. 10:49 - no one was put in danger. 14:40 not careless driving, it's planned and well executed as the safest route through. The requirements of a keep left sign do not apply to emergency vehicles. 24:40 - no one was forced to do anything, the driver was very restrained, not even using sirens and not advancing on the vehicle.
    All of this would be entirely in keeping with my training to the highest level available in the UK

      Yeah I know, I prefer a constant siren myself.
      But I guess it works since we don't have large traffic issues.
      For example, yesterday I seen an ambulance responding, put on his sirens before a junction then switched it off again once he was clear due to an open road.
      Just need to watch out for the big flashy blue lights.

      Otacatapetl Any emergency service that uses lights and sirens, turn off their Sirens if:
      There is no traffic
      No where for traffic to go
      or, if the only place traffic can move out of the way is to cross a Solid White Line.
      They do not expect you to move, if it means to break the law doing so.
