My personal favorite to use is a Kodachrome variant(XT-2/ xtrans 3) with classic chrome as my base the next would be a monochrome. As for my editing lately I've been using more out of camera jpeg editing in camera (raw+fine) mostly because my computer crapped out on me (need a new power brick) as far as my image quality, it's been fantastic. Mostly day trips or getting images for family get togathers for friends. No one noticed weather or not that I did any editing at all.

@@ThomasBusbyPhotography true! That’s way out of my price range but if I made lots of money from landscape photos, that’d be one of my top choices for cameras other than an 8 x 10 film camera.
Great video! I’ve been shooting Fuji since 2016 (X-T2, H1, T4) and my usual workflow is RAW+JPEG, cull in PhotoMechanic, best shots to Lightroom or Lightroom CC. This is actually super quick for me. The only reason I shoot the JPEGs is that they give you better detail when checking the shot during shooting or in LR during post: RAW+JPEG shots have 2 more “clicks” of zoom while shooting on the X-T4 anyways. So I thought I’d try some recipes the other day and I couldn’t believe how it slowed my X-T4 down in the field. I remembered that the Fuji X Weekly guy said it was the Clarity, so I dialled that back to 0 and it helped, but it was still noticeably slower than with the default settings. Bottom line is for me I like my original workflow, and I want the camera to be as fast as possible while shooting. Maybe I’ll try the recipes again with X Raw Studio in post, but in the field, no thanks.
I quiet often just shoot RAW but if -2 highlights and shadows as it still applies it to the in camera preview to show me a higher dynamic range. When I shoot weddings I shoot raw+jpeg like that in CC and haven't. Noticed any performance changes at all.

I really liked the aspect you made about the 'feeling' you have for photography when producing a shot that is mostly complete and thus able to enjoy the moment captured a little fuller. In essence it's like sorting the post processing out before taking the shot rather than after (preprocessing hehe), but I think herein lies the important element; We take the shot and are left just absorbing the shot with no real intention of having to edit to see our finalised vision, we're basically 90% there. So we once again feel like 'photographers' and not 'retouchers'. If we spend 2 secs to taking a shot but 20mins editing, what are we feeling about ourselves? Are we photographers or editors? Photography will always be a two stage process, capturing and editing, but I think whatever aspect you finish on in that process of producing an image can leave you feeling more like that persona. So to try and sort the processing out beforehand I think is a really wise and wonderful idea. We 'finish' the entire photography process when viewing the image on the back of the camera and that can make the world of difference to how we feel about our own photography skills and 'getting it right' in camera.

I had no idea I can do that. Very helpful. Thank you. Your channel is much appreciated. Your videos are clear, concise, and you explain complicated topics in a simple way. Question: Are custom settings limited to the options in the quick menu? For example I am doing a lot of night photography and always have to dial in the settings manually. Then when I go back to day photography I have to reset.
Shutter aperture and iso do need to be dialed in every time for astro. I do have cheatsheets on my Instagram page to screen shot which might help you with this though. And thank you kindly for that support.
I have saved 7 different recipes I found from fuji x weekly but when you color adjust your whitebalance for let say daylight r3, b3 for one simulation and then use daylight r5, b -4 for another recipe and save each one seperately on different custom slots, it seems like the camera uses the latest color adjustment - in this case daylight r5, b -4 - for the previous simulation that uses the daylight WB option. Is there a way to overcome this? I have an Xe2 with the latest firmware.
On newer models you can but if you’re firmware is all up to date I’m guessing you can’t for the xe2 sorry. I rough work around is rename the film sim to e.g. r5b4 to remind you of what WB it likes.

While using the Fuji recipe, does the camera record with fuji recipe and delivers the output with recepie? I was wondering that if someone wants to further color grade the file.. will it be possible if the video already records in film stimulation?
As long as you’re not shooting I flog and most components of film recipes can’t be applied to video. Film simulations, highlights, shadows, WB etc can be, but not the heavier effects. But yes I used to shot a lot of video with eterna or classic chrome, with -2 Highlights and shadows and then grade it further in post.
Hello! Just wondering, Im also using XT3 however for the grain settings, I cant seem to find the Strong (Small) options. its only either strong, weak or none. Any idea how to fix this? thank you so much in advance! love your channel
4.25 I cant‘t dial in the Blue and Red values on my X-E3 :/ Do you have an idea, why I can adjust the Red and Blue settings for the White Balance within the IQ menue but not within the custom settings menu?
I am unsure what exactly you mean sorry but if you could pm me on a social media so I could see a photo of your screen I can hopefully point you in the right direction
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography thank you for replying! I meant that when saving the custom profile, when setting the white balance setting, I wasn't able to hit right on the D-pad and set the custom values for red and blue. After a bit of searching however I found out that this is happening because you can't save those values on the X-T3 and you have to set them manually :)
Hi new fuji user here, Do the custom profiles overwrite the standard film sims until you delete the edited one, for example i was using a custom recipe with a base of classic chrome but wanted to switch back to the genuine classic chrome but when i selected CC it was still the modified version. Correct, what I would suggest doing is leaving the very first base profile as standard, and switching that around for on the fly simulation and not saving over it.

I no longer have the camera sorry. But I am very sure by default the wheels by your right hand thumb and index finger while you grip the camera change your shutter and maybe aperture depending on which lens you are using. And I changed the left hand command dial to ISO instead of film simulations, but you can just as easily leave ISO on the original button if you like. Hope this helps.

A few people have been informing me that the xt3 is missing a few of the options despite it having the same processor, so some recipes will not work for the xt3 that do for the other cameras sorry
Recently purchased the X-T4 and would like to use film simulation recipes but am confused. If I set up 7 different recipes in the camera and say chose custom setting 1 and take several shots, how do I get out of that custom setting and be able to take shots with the default settings that were in the camera when purchased while still maintaining the custom 1 recipe for future use? Going to shoot raw plus fine.
So if you go into your Q menu and change the too right hand options to say base. This is like a main setting, you can still change some other options in the Q menu and they will be saved to that base option, but I like to keep it neutral and use it as a fully base
Hi, thanks for the helpful video! My question is, if I want to slightly change the raw file, can I open it on Lightroom with the selection I made for the recipe included? It doesn't seem to work, is it a Lightroom issue?
Hi! How i use these Recipes in filming mode ? While in movie mode this simulations turnes to unadjustable only default film modes can be apply (I have x-t3 btw) I could not figure it out :( Thank you.
Recipes are more limited in video, they get a little less limited in newer models but due to the heavy processing required to apply recipes order cameras and certain parts of a recipe just can’t be applied fast enough for it to be usable during video. For example On a xh2s I can add highlights and shadows, sharpness and NR to most simulations, but that’s about it
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography thank you for the answer. and it is so quick :) do i understand; for video, i choose the one of the default film simulations and i change the settings like shadow, highlight, white balance and then is it the same the settings that i apply on the photo image ? i mean more or less same. this is the way i should do right?
Not quite the same, as video mode might be more cropped and has extra settings like clarity and some colour options that video doesn’t have. But if you set those options to the same as your video it should be very close to matching
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography I've loved it so much in photography. But my job is filming. So i try to understand if i missing something in video part :) I didnt even know this feature 3 days ago. @@ThomasBusbyPhotography yeah I'm on the latest firmware, I just updated to 4.00 the other week. Th only way I can alter it is if in the customisation I save the daylight WB & then go back into the menu and repeat the process for WB but doesn't allow changing whilst customising.
I guess you can't then sorry, I haven't done those style of saved presets on the xtrans 3. As like I said the ones from the videos are for xtrans 4. So maybe on the older cameras you can't save the exact WB to the preset.
So if I shoot raw + jpg I get the unaltered image and the processed one. The only 'settings' the raw captures is like the actual exposure, aperture iso stuff while the jpg captures all the processing on top. I'm wondering, is film simulations and recipes basically like playing with the color saturation and contrast dials on a canon? Thanks
I mention this in the video but you can't change clarity if on CH or CL burst modes, it takes a lot to apply to your images and the camera can only handle it with a single frame at a time.
When I try and do these film Sims on my Fuji X-T3, the option for tone curve isn’t there. Is this only available on later fujis or do I have to select another setting?
X-T2: whitebalance settings are not saved with the preset, neither is the file type. I like the idea of a jpeg as a certain film look if it was 1-button preset.
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography yeah I just checked now and I have it on “S” and I don’t know where to look at which firmware I have, but earlier today I went on the Fujifilm app to see if I needed to update it and it said I was up-to-date

Question. How can I add the exp comp on the recipes!???
Cool. Just bought a x t30 so I've got a lot of experimenting to do!
The Fujifilm weekly app is also now a great place to look for recipes
i have the old Polaroid recipes on my gfx
Hahaha I love the contrast of that, and the creativity it would push you to use. Awesome idea!
Awesome channel. !!!
Thanks
Thank you for this!
Where I find the exposure compesation on setting?
Depends on your camera and it’s something you need to set each time, it can’t be saved to the film sim
Hello! Just wondering, Im also using XT3 however for the grain settings, I cant seem to find the Strong (Small) options. its only either strong, weak or none. Any idea how to fix this? thank you so much in advance! love your channel
I’m not sure sorry, I just had a look at the t3 online manual and couldn’t see it either
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography Its ok! Thank you so much! Really appreciate it. Subscribing to your channel now 🙏🏼
Love it
4.25 I cant‘t dial in the Blue and Red values on my X-E3 :/ Do you have an idea, why I can adjust the Red and Blue settings for the White Balance within the IQ menue but not within the custom settings menu?
Not 100% sure sorry, on that sensor maybe it's not a option and something you need to dial in each time?
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography i guess you’re right :/ I have to dial in the white balance shift globally on the IQ settings menu I think.. thanks anyway 👍🏼
how do i set Min shutter speed to auto in the auto iso setting? i don't seem to have that option. I'm using x100v
You just change the shutter speed to auto on the shutter speed dial
Thanks for the great video! However in my X-T3 it seems I'm not able to dial in Red and Blue values for the Daylight option... Any ideas?
I am unsure what exactly you mean sorry but if you could pm me on a social media so I could see a photo of your screen I can hopefully point you in the right direction
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography thank you for replying! I meant that when saving the custom profile, when setting the white balance setting, I wasn't able to hit right on the D-pad and set the custom values for red and blue. After a bit of searching however I found out that this is happening because you can't save those values on the X-T3 and you have to set them manually :)
Very happy you found it out, and all the best
Hi new fuji user here, Do the custom profiles overwrite the standard film sims until you delete the edited one, for example i was using a custom recipe with a base of classic chrome but wanted to switch back to the genuine classic chrome but when i selected CC it was still the modified version. Help!
Correct, what I would suggest doing is leaving the very first base profile as standard, and switching that around for on the fly simulation and not saving over it.
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography Thanks a lot man, this is good way for me to alternate between them, cheers!
Do you know anything about recipes for a
fujifilm x10? thanks.
I know stuff yes, what would you like to know
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography I would like to know if recipes can be made in an X10 and which X-Trans would be the most appropriate to use in fuji x weekly, thank you very much, cheers, you have very good videos.
X-trans 1 recipes should be your go to.
fujixweekly.com/fujifilm-x-trans-i-recipes/
My X-T20 doesn't allow me to get to the third IQ page? Does anyone know why and how to fix it?
So if I set my iso to 6400, that means it’s up to 6400 (per a recipe) or does that mean it’ll always be at 6400? Confused what “iso up to X” means
Set your iso to “auto 6400”
You’ll see you have 3 auto iso options and for each of those you can set a ceiling of what the iso will max out at.
Set that ceiling at 6400
Gracias fuel de Mucha ayuda tu video!
hey i just bought the xs10 and i am really confused about the settings (i watched your video about your settings) but i am hoping you can make a video explaining the dials and how to shoot in m mode also i do not know how to change the shutter speed
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography yes it did thank you! I wish you still had the camera tho bc there is no one at the moment explaining how to change the settings
As in spinning those wheels doesn't change the settings?
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography I had the x100v and could select my recipes in the menu. I’ve been playing with the X-S10 for 2 days and cannot work out how to select my recipes.
I just switched to mine when I had it on the mood dial, BUT I didn't do very heavy testing of this and haven't use the xs10 for a while now to confirm exactly sorry
I tried a couple on my X-T20 but the outcome is that everything is very yellow, it's the white balance I think?
Qazi... Haha, mean bro like superia personally, had that sweet sunset look
Can you save the WB settings to all Custom slots or did Fuji skipped this one again?
Hi, why does my setting doesn't show the Large option on grain & Clarity option?
What camera do you have?
And also make sure you are on single shot and not a burst mode
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography Fuji X-T3. Burst mode you mean Continuous High right? No, I’m on standard Single shot mode.
A few people have been informing me that the xt3 is missing a few of the options despite it having the same processor, so some recipes will not work for the xt3 that do for the other cameras sorry
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography damn that sucks haha..
Kodak Portra 400: Shadow?.. is it (-2) or (+2) 😅
Recently purchased the X-T4 and would like to use film simulation recipes but am confused.
Film simulations do not work on RAW files, only jpegs
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography Oh no!
Im planning on getting a xt5 for film recipes and other stuff. Any good?
Absolutely
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography awesome thanks
Hi! How i use these Recipes in filming mode ? While in movie mode this simulations turnes to unadjustable only default film modes can be apply (I have x-t3 btw) I could not figure it out :(
Thank you.
But when i heard about it i though that can be an alternative to LUTs.
Thank you for the detailed information.
Yeah for fast turn around I’ve been filming a lot in eterna with negative everything and it’s been coming out great
I am a bit overwhelmed with all the choises etc. Do you may know how good these work for the X-S10? I think about getting it as my first Fuji.
The xs10 will do all the current Fujifilm recipes I believe, plus I personally believe the xs10 is the perfect first Fujifilm camera.
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography Thank you so much for the fast answer! I hope i can pick it up this week.
X-s10 and x-t3, which one should i choose?

I don't get the WB box to alter shift using the d pad on the xt3 is there another way of adjusting the WB on the xt?
I don't have a xt3 on me to check sorry, but it does work on all my cameras older than a xt3, are you on the latest firmware?
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography yeah I'm on the latest firmware, I just updated to 4.00 the other week. Th only way I can alter it is if in the customisation I save the daylight WB & then go back into the menu and repeat the process for WB but doesn't allow changing whilst customising.
I guess you can't then sorry, I haven't done those style of saved presets on the xtrans 3. As like I said the ones from the videos are for xtrans 4.
So maybe on the older cameras you can't save the exact WB to the preset.
how to get back to default without any custom setting?
So if I shoot raw + jpg I get the unaltered image and the processed one. The only 'settings' the raw captures is like the actual exposure, aperture iso stuff while the jpg captures all the processing on top. I'm wondering, is film simulations and recipes basically like playing with the color saturation and contrast dials on a canon?
Thanks
Yes exactly
My X-T4 Clarity option is always greyed out.... is there a way to unlock this so i can use the recipes?
I mention this in the video but you can't change clarity if on CH or CL burst modes, it takes a lot to apply to your images and the camera can only handle it with a single frame at a time.
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography Thanks I picked it up after I posted... d'oh
When I try and do these film Sims on my Fuji X-T3, the option for tone curve isn’t there. Is this only available on later fujis or do I have to select another setting?
X-T2: whitebalance settings are not saved with the preset, neither is the file type. I like the idea of a jpeg as a certain film look if it was 1-button preset.
i dont have the "clarity", "chrome effect blue" and being able to choose my "RED" and "BLUE" option on my Xt-3 menu like you do. help?
Are you on single shot, or a burst drive mode of some sort, is it greyed out or not there at all?
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography not there at all
And are you definitely on single shot drive mode?
What firmware are you running?
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography yeah I just checked now and I have it on “S” and I don’t know where to look at which firmware I have, but earlier today I went on the Fujifilm app to see if I needed to update it and it said I was up-to-date
Be aware this will reset everything, but a factory reset should bring it back, off the top of my head I can’t think of what else hides it, but your camera does have the option.
I can't seem to save the recipe. It always turns back to default.
If you’d like to add me on Instagram I might be able to help you more with this if you’d like to PM me

I don t have Color Chrome Effect. I use X T3. It s that normal?
Lots of people have been commenting saying colour chrome effect and clarity aren’t on the XT3 so yes that sounds normal unfortunately

Sorry that is what I meant, do you have clarity?
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography no, but i have sharpness.
I am so confused bc my XT3 menu doesn't look like this at all.
anybody suggest a good recipe for shooting flat artwork(oil paintings). i need accuracy
When I’ve done it in the past I just used standard everything.
What’s your final output/location of the photo going to be e.g. print, web etc?
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography standard is what i'm using too. i don't do any tweaking. the image would be for the gallery site and for print, but mainly it's only for the site. i've alwasy had issues with printers but i found that not all printers are "on the same page" anyway. and one printer told me that ultimately it comes down to the printer's eye. the one photographer i knew who went to great lengths for color accuracy was a guy you did catalogoes for bloomingdales and he, his ad, and the printer were all locked into the smae color environment. i cannot go that far. i was just hoping for a recipe that would eliminate some issues. for instance i need to use polarizers to eliminate glare but then the images would be too saturated and highly contrasty. then there's also the problm of certain cameras picking up and accentuating colors i did not anticipate. that is why i asked this question
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography my palette is very narrow and tight. all my colors are muted and greyed so the nuances are slight. my palette is NOT colorful, so if something is off it's very noticeable, as opposed to say an artist with a colorful palette
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography since i just bought the t30 i have become aware of all the tweaks,,,things i never paid attention to. i thought there might be a recipe for that?
Not that I have done a huge amount of this but I put all my effort into getting the light correct.
Good soft boxes in the right position and I didn’t use any filters
Watch Nacho Libre. Now that's a film sim to shoot for.
I don't see all these options on my xt3
I don't have a xt3 on me to guide you sorry, but it they should be hidden in there somewhere.
doesn't work on my X-T3 🙁
What doesn’t?
Here’s a stupid question. Why didn’t Fuji just give users the ability to import a film simulation recipe?
I’d take a guess because that would require another device, but mostly you’re right, being able to share them as a download etc would be nice
I think he just rushed through the video, some of us are beginners who are just learning to use some of these thgs.
