@KYtimes2 It is correct and that match against Roman was intended to be his retirement match no matter how many times you simply declare me wrong. Try again,
I took it this way The reason Undertaker showed up is because out of all the talent in WWE and wrestling history He is WrestleMania and no matter how long it passes as long as he's alive he is the one and only who can pass judgment on WrestleMania he is the judge as well so in this case it feels like take her through sick of rock behaving like he's a bigger boss in WrestleMania than him so he showed up to remind him of where he belongs. There's a reason why rock kept screaming I'm the final boss here and then taker showed up. I've been singing it for a long while all these retired legends I know that their bodies aren't in top shape but they can still show out once in a while for a special occasion in a special spot like this where they're actions leads to a baby face through winning or whatever is needed.
It's storytelling. You can easily say Stone Cold respected Rock, until he became the Final Boss. And we all know how Austin feels about Bosses in WWE. If we had to believe Jimmy was trying to keep Jey from becoming like Roman, Austin can definitely stun Rock for slowly becoming McMahon
@richborn6700 correct, alot of people forget austin let rock go over at his final mania(at the time). That is not something he would have let a rival do.
Taker was there for a reason. Cena took out Roman, Rock took out Cena, Taker took out Rock. They went back in time through eras to push us in to the new one.
Wrestlemania 40 hands down best ive seen been watching since the 80s proper ppv nostalgia story and production different level triple h playing the game as the boss long may it continue
This was the first Wrestlemania in recent memory where I felt like a little kid again. Don’t get me wrong, there are moments from shows I’ll never forget but this one, in my opinion, was entertaining from start to finish. I’m so flipping excited to see what else the Paul Levesque era has.
YES!! When The Rock hit the spine on the pine, I jumped outta my chair and pulled off my imaginary elbow pad just like I did as a kid. Who am I kidding, did that shit in my 20s. 😅
Taker’s had beef with the bloodline all the way back to Yokozuna. Get match great night. Stone Cold would’ve been great but the Taker was the feature we didn’t know we needed.
Roman is proof Paul Heyman is the best manager of all time. Like Conrad said, a few seconds on screen with Heyman was all it took to change Roman’s entire career trajectory
I believe Austin's appearance could have moved the spotlight off Cody. Austin is a bigger name than the Undertaker.WWE did the right thing by not bringing in Stone Cold.
It also made more sense to the history of Roman Reigns. If Brock didn't have the controversy around him he would of been involved too. People keep thinking what happened was about "The Rock" but really it was about Reigns. All of the people who interfered were ghosts of Reigns past not Rocks.
@@jonnyOystersWell put! I never thought of it like that! With that being said since Brock couldn’t be there do you think Braun should have played a part? Him and Roman had some barn burners IMO.
Hulk was there in Philadelphia on Sunday. He was at WWE fan access. I think they just felt hulk was a bit old to be there and can’t move physically as well plus he’s still polarizing. Look at his mixed reaction at Mania 36
Taker fit the story not hulk. Taker fit better than scsa. Taker taping up to watch/ensure hbk do a job. So he showed up to rock coz rock was "going into business for himself". Cena to even up the odds. Like I thought use randy over seth, or punk if he wasn't hurt. Coz seth mid to me. But seth was right guy. Respect to ⅔ of shield. Even though was never a fan.
@@Chayliss Taker did not fit better than Austin, relax lol The plan was Austin but Im sure he felt it was too overbooked, even though it came out right
One legend had to take out Rock, Austin was the best choice given their history. Undertaker was a great plan B. So there was no spot for Hogan. Not to mention with the entrance being so long, it would have taken awhile for Hogan to get to the ring. I don't think him being polarizing ruled him out, the majority of the public has accepted him back. I do think they should have done something with Hogan during Night 1 though to have him at such a landmark Wrestlemania
I saw a theory that everyone who ran out to the ring to help Cody were people Roman had beaten at one point. So in that way, Taker makes sense over Austin. Plus Taker and Rock had their share of battles during the Attitude Era.
Taker made much more sense than Austin did in helping Cody. Austin would have taken some shine off of Cody, which you don’t want to happen when you’re crowning a new champion/face of the company for the new era.
Plus, Undertaker has a personal steak in this story. Remember that Roman and Haymen were two people directly responsible for ending the streak, resulting in Takers only two losses at Wrestlemania. This was his way of finally getting revenge and closure on that chapter in his career. As much as I would have wanted to see Austin instead, it was great to see Undertaker finally give Roman and co. what they deserved.
@@caseyw1286 yeah the losses to Roman n Brock have nothing to do with him stopping Rock. It was more so restoring order in the WWE n stopping abuse of power which Taker behind the scenes is known for. He also did this on screen when he helped Rock vs HHH in an iron man match at Judgement Day in like 2000
Dustin was in a skybox at the show. Also, Hogan was in Philadelphia doing autograph sessions. He put out a post on TikTok and Instagram talking about it.
See Eric, The Undertaker has been and always will be the conscience of the WWE. Rocky decided to use his powers as a member of the board for "Evil", and Taker could not allow him to get away with it. Simple logic that takes seconds to discover.
I was in the crowd waiting for the glass to shatter, and when i heard the gong, it just made sense. Everybody in the ring had a story with Roman at one point and Taker is the WM Final Boss. But..... It still would have been cool to hear the glass. I was also expecting Hogan to make an appearance on at least one of the nights.. Fantastic show and experience, though. So damn worth it!!!
I personally don’t believe Stone Cold’s body could’ve pulled off a stunner. Hats off to the Rock for jumping like he did so Taker could pull off that choke slam.
I think he could still do it because he did some stunners a couple of years ago. I think it would of just been too big of a moment if Stone Cold and The Rock had come face to face it would overshadowed everything. Plus Austin would have to get down there and he’s not run like Cena. He gonna do his BMF walk and its long way so it would been a few minutes 😂Hopefully they have that moment in the future. I also agree hats off to The Rock for going out there and working in a 45 minute match. He even went through a table. Highest paid actor in Hollywood & His tequila brand is about to be sold for $3 billion. So he has no reason to do this other than the fact he cares about the business he grew up in. The Rock has been so damn entertaining these past 2 months. Even though half the time we can’t even hear what he’s saying because they keep having the o beep him out because of all the F bombs he kept dropping 😂
Bringing in Austin would’ve been predictable and besides he had nothing to do with the bloodline angle. Whereas undertaker is wrestlemania final boss and he did suffer a loss against Roman. So it made perfect sense to bring the deadman. Loved this mania! One of the best ever

7:00 Major credit to Mr. Bischoff for being complete frank and honest about the “elephant in the room” every time that Hulk Hogan’s name is brought up. And I think that you almost have to bring it up in some, most, and/or all serious conversations regarding Hulk Hogan and his public appearances. It’s sad because there was a time when all of America would have greatly mourned the day that Hulk Hogan passes away, but instead there will likely be various emotions, feelings of ambivalence, and some who once would have cared a lot, may not care at all due to the statements and language that Hogan used on that recording.
Not over in death? That doesn't work for me brother. Vkm took top heat, hulks fine. I forget what he said. Was it basically dont.mix race? Some Ppl in all race feel that. For some is racism. For others it's they want thier kid to look like them. Or don't want the kid to have to deal with being mixed.
I'd chalk it up to Taker taking exception to Rock calling himself the "Final Boss." You could certainly say Taker was the original Final Boss. I loved it. We all expected Austin, but nobody would have called, Taker. Even though the seed was planted when Taker inducted Muhammad Ali at the HOF.
It also made sense with Undertaker being connected to Roman Reigns too. If Brock didn't have all the controversy around him. He would of been there too
To old heads taker makes sense coz The time he taped up when hbk was a possibility to go into business for himself. Cena said, shit was unfair, so here I go Same with taker Scsa probably the last of the doesnt work for me brother He walked instead of random job to brock for example. Amd he walked 1 or 2 other times. He always politiced hard, but that was his era you had to. Not in a hogan way though. Job to brock on random TV? What? Let's build and make money at a ppv. Je had another story I kinda forget but he was always based in male.money and make sense.
People thought scsa because of smack down but after I thought about it for a while it was too obvious, you want to throw a curve ball and I started to suspect it could be taker instead but I wasn't sure which one was the curve ball or if both were. Good story telling is about leading your audience to expect one thing and then doing something different that they weren't expecting
The only thing that would have made it better would have been if stone cold took the Undertaker spot. It was obviously meant to be that way, and undertaker is essentially a retcon (and as good of one as it could have been). I was hoping it would play out like when Mankind won due to stone cold at the end. That pop was insane. Something similar would have been a great call back to the night that WWF surpassed WCW in the ratings.
Taker makes more sense than SCSA. His relationship with the Anoi’a family, how close he is with them off camera & feuded with Yoko, Rock, Rikishi, & Roman. Wish Hulk could’ve come down the aisle & raised Cody’s hand, but we get his physical limitations.
Guess I’m the only one who thought that sucked. Undertaker had nothing to do with the story, cheap pop, the equivalent to a jump scare in a horror movie.
I disagree that it was weird for it to be the undertaker, Eric. He is known to be the locker room leader that's not going to let any of the BS happen. Cena makes sense because he always wants a fair chance it's always something he says. Pretty accurate here obviously people in their minds everywhere would want stone cold to be in that taker spot but I think the story was written perfectly If people really think about the details
I don't understand why people think WrestleMania 17 is the best - it literally ruined/ended the Attitude era with Austin turning heel. There are too many people being parrots these days and not forming their own opinion.
@@johnstrom5910Saying that Wrestlemania 17 “ruined/ended” the Attitude Era is like saying that the Undertaker choke-slamming The Rock “ruined/ended” the Wrestlemania 40 main event. At first I thought Stone Cold not being there was that it was pitched but didn't work for Austin for whatever reason. In retrospect I believe it may have been the best plan. Would be a perfect spot when the glass breaks but 1. There is no way Stone cold doesn't steal spotlight on Cody's moment. 2. It leaves you with somewhere still to go. The Rocks new story is still in Act one. It's too early for the climax.
I have to agree with the Miz who said that the Undertaker as former lockerroom leader and head of the Court has been the right choice to end the cheating ways of Roman and Rock. Yes, because of the history between Rock and Austin it would have been nice, but the Attitude Era has already been presented by The Rock, if you see Taker, Rock, Cena, Reigns as the old (McMahon) Era faces, and Rhodes as the new (Tripple H) Era face. And i must say that a Hogan involvment would have made much less sense then anything else. Yes he is beside Flair one of the Faces of Wrestling in the 80s and 90s, but why would he help Cody? What would Hogan add to the story? And just showing him in the audience wouldn`t do him and his career any justice.
I like your guys' assement on it. Makes perfect sense. Me, personally, as someone said that I saw lol, the "Final Boss of WreslteMania" will always be The Undertaker lol. But also, everyone involved in that match at some sort of stake in it, or had a beef with Roman and the Bloodline. And, as much as I would have loved it for Stone Cold to come out, I think that would've overshadowed everything.
Taker made more sense than Austin. Why?? Because if you pay close attention.....it was done in succession. Each guy put over the Legend that came right before him, and the era that came before him. Starting with Roman taking Cena's AA. Austin and Rock are really from the same era in terms of WWE. Taker made sense because he represented a WWE era BEFORE the Rock. The New Generation, and even the Golden era. Austin showing up would have been the same era as Rock. So even though people WANTED to see Austin(i get it), it was still correctly done, and was the right way to do it. There were basically 3 or 4 long term story-lines playing out within the same match. It then worked backwards with Cody, representing the newest era, being handed the torch by Reigns. It was beautifully done.
Undertaker literally has been feuding with that entire family for 30 years. It is literally long term storytelling. Roman is one of two to defeat him at mania. Undertaker is synonymous with the event. It only stands to reason that in the course of match that one of the participants must win and is getting cheated that the mythical figure returns to inflict revenge on Roman.
the Taker spot is because its wrestlemania but its a call back to doing business right i.e. Montreal and Austin v Michaels Wrestlemania 14 where taker sat in gorilla taped up his hands and wass waiting to see if Shawn drop the title. If he didn’t Taker was going to put hands on him
That shot of Punk and Cody standing in the ring in WWE’s finest hour had to feel like a dagger to Tony. Can’t blame anyone else though. He stepped on his own dick.

Everyone that came down on the side of Cody had issues with the Bloodline in some way. In terms of Taker, It could be because Roman was one of his only 2 WM losses and Paul Heyman was Lesnar's manager/advocate and this was, in a way, payback for WM 30.
To me the undertaker connection goes back to the 1990 survivor series dream team vs million dollar team and bonus Bruce Pritchard was there as brother love
I think Stone Cold's attitude is really disappointing. Unlike Triple H, Undertaker, and Cena who have all moved forward and are now focused on making a positive impact in the industry, Stone Cold seems to be dwelling on the past. While The Rock may face some criticism for his actions, he still knows how to get things done when necessary. Meanwhile, Stone Cold is still at home, crying with his ball.
Stone cold took his ball and went home years ago so it shouldn't surprise anyone. The rock is a far bigger star than stone cold and has done so much outside of wrestling stone cold could only dream of so I guess he's jealous which is sad
@@theherogothamneeds1014 how on earth do you come that conclusion? Maybe Rock said he wasn't taking a stunner in the context of how that would have done down? If WWE could've, it should've been Brock Lesnar. He has the most history versus Roman and Paul, and he gave the ultimate respect and admiration to Cody long before Seth started to. With all due respect to the Undertaker, he has virtually zero storyline history with Cody Rhodes.
Funny thing is Undertaker fits as his first match was against Dusty Rhodes and his crew. So it still fits. Also Rock calling himself the final boss when the Deadman will forever hold that.
I feel like Taker worked out best in the end. This was supposed to be Wrestlemania XL, the biggest of all time. And for once...nobody was talking about the undertaker...He's retired, in the hall of fame, and doing his podcast, dont think many people expected him to appear at all... And it lead to one of the best run ins ive ever seen in my entire life just based on who it was and how nobody expected it, but it made all the sense in the world.
Can you imagine if Dustin wins the title and at some point a bunch of money changes hands and we have a Cody vs Dustin champ vs champ match... Would be a huge payday for all involved and truly a new era in professional wrestling. Wrestling is hot at this time. Cash in on it and blow fans minds.
Couple options to explain Takers appearance: Roman and Lesnar both defeated Taker at Mania. (Lesnar obviously wasn’t showing) Another option is Roman beat Bray Wyatt for the title to start his reign. Taker gave Wyatt his blessing last time he appeared on raw. So this could have been a fiend/Bray Wyatt spot in a perfect world. Both are a bit of stretch really but you could stretch both if ya needed to fit taker into that slot.
There is no real reason to it. The same way there wasn’t back in judgment day 00 when he came back. He had no history with hhh especially the game version. He did have history with Shawn but he was the babyface ref..
I think the final nostalgia could have been either Undertaker OR Stone Cold. Stone Cold is the more obvious, but the subtlety of why it can and maybe should be Taker almost makes that better.
Listen I’m perfectly happy Taker came…Taker is basically the actual Final Boss of Wrestlemania so it’s just fine. It wouldn’t be the same if you didn’t hear that gong go off one way or another. Pancho 3:16 says Stone Cold is going to sit this one out and watch from home lol 😂 For me in a way I could feel what Cody is feeling because having both my parents gone at 47…I had a lot new moments early on I wish my mom could have been there for…I was pregnant with my first child when she passed…laid her to rest and had my son a week later..I had to deal with being a new mom and somewhat grieve but I needed to take care of all her estate stuff which took me two years…at the end of it I felt complete and something I that I know she would wanted to be handled with care…so in a way I feel all of Cody’s real emotions with him wanted to achieve a moment in honor of his dad…I teared up…It’s a wholesome moment I think touched everyone… I don’t know what his title run will be like but I’m all in for it.
I heard a rumor that was Brock's spot and thats why they did the whole Brock Cody thing last year but with the lawsuits and his name being brought up that it didnt happen. I've been singing it for a long while all these retired legends I know that their bodies aren't in top shape but they can still show out once in a while for a special occasion in a special spot like this where they're actions leads to a baby face through winning or whatever is needed.
Absolutely no explanation needed for Taker showing up.
Should've been brock
@joshuaarch1089 nah, wouldn't have had the same impact, Stone Cold is the only one that would have topped it
Austin and rock do not have more than a professional rivalry. Theyve done nothing but speak highly of thier friendship and respect for each other
It's storytelling. You can easily say Stone Cold respected Rock, until he became the Final Boss. And we all know how Austin feels about Bosses in WWE. If we had to believe Jimmy was trying to keep Jey from becoming like Roman, Austin can definitely stun Rock for slowly becoming McMahon

This was the first Wrestlemania in recent memory where I felt like a little kid again. Don’t get me wrong, there are moments from shows I’ll never forget but this one, in my opinion, was entertaining from start to finish. I’m so flipping excited to see what else the Paul Levesque era has.

Taker’s had beef with the bloodline all the way back to Yokozuna. Get match great night. Stone Cold would’ve been great but the Taker was the feature we didn’t know we needed.
Austin's partner was sick is what I've heard. Also, with Roman being the only other person to beat Taker at WM, it made it bit more sense.

@Tunggy2523 taker was the last minute replacement for Austin
Clearly they don't follow Hogan's Instagram lol
Fantastic show and experience, though. So damn worth it!!!
I personally don’t believe Stone Cold’s body could’ve pulled off a stunner. Hats off to the Rock for jumping like he did so Taker could pull off that choke slam.
Austin just had a 20 minute match 2 years ago, I think he could pull off 1 stunner 😂

Undertaker is the real Final Boss. The Rock had to answer to the locker room leader back then lol 😂
Sure they couldn’t get Stone Cold but you can also argue that Undertaker has had feuds with the Bloodline and their family tree since Yokozuna.
The fact that Cody basically opened his post event presser with a Yiddish word tells you all you need to know about who took Vince’s company
I feel like the Undertaker is the real FINAL BOSS ... ask Teddy Long
The Undertaker is WWE greatest creation and is the true and only GOAT. He's known globally no matter sport or job. People know who the Undertaker is
Steve wanted too much money for the stunner.
I am glad it was taker.

Guess I’m the only one who thought that sucked. Undertaker had nothing to do with the story, cheap pop, the equivalent to a jump scare in a horror movie.
Randy holding Cody over his shoulder is a beautiful imagery of friendship etc…
The story that would never end? How about Roman losing to Brock 900 times before finally winning.
that also in an underwhelming WrestleMania match
WrestleMania 40 was indeed the perfect use of nostalgia Eric, absolutely agree with you, all those legends appearing, absolutely incredible. 👏👏👏👏👏
I wouldn't call it weird, just unexpected, which is perfectly fine as we need some of that in wrestling.
He also has a really long history with the Samoans, dating back to Yokozuna, he has had some sort of fued with a Samoan every decade it seems
Glass breaking and Stone Cold stunner would've been perfect
This was a really solid Wrestlemania, certainly wasn't perfect but it was the best one since X-Seven IMO

At first I thought Stone Cold not being there was that it was pitched but didn't work for Austin for whatever reason. In retrospect I believe it may have been the best plan. Would be a perfect spot when the glass breaks but
It only stands to reason that in the course of match that one of the participants must win and is getting cheated that the mythical figure returns to inflict revenge on Roman.
i mean Takers VERY FIRST Wrestlemania was with Snuka, who was a very close associate of the family. Pretty much an extension of them

Funny thing is Undertaker fits as his first match was against Dusty Rhodes and his crew. So it still fits. Also Rock calling himself the final boss when the Deadman will forever hold that.

TK wants to overshadow it with All in Footage tonight 🙄
Couple options to explain Takers appearance:
Roman and Lesnar both defeated Taker at Mania. (Lesnar obviously wasn’t showing)
Another option is Roman beat Bray Wyatt for the title to start his reign. Taker gave Wyatt his blessing last time he appeared on raw. So this could have been a fiend/Bray Wyatt spot in a perfect world.
Both are a bit of stretch really but you could stretch both if ya needed to fit taker into that slot.
I mean all I can make out of the undertaker spot is that back in 90s, taker was the judge in wrestlers court. Rock is abusing his power, taker judges
There is no real reason to it. The same way there wasn’t back in judgment day 00 when he came back. He had no history with hhh especially the game version. He did have history with Shawn but he was the babyface ref..
