    the winch didn't fail. the mount it is attached to did. That caused all the damage you see. The winch needs a proper mount to have structural integrity

    • @khoatran9482
      @khoatran9482 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      I can't believe all these comments this is the only one that got it right. At 8:05 you can see the mounting plate buckled which caused the counter rotation of the forces to break the winch. This is the #1 cause of winch failures. Wish i could thumbs up 5 more times.

    • @nathan00campbell
      @nathan00campbell 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@khoatran9482 yeah, been in trucking for a lot of years, broke a lot of things loading them onto trailers. Done a crap ton of off roading and building custom trucks. Learned the hard way a few times about structural integrity. A winch is only as strong as its mount.

      Finally someone got it right, this is the comment I was looking for. Just like his other video where he got his lifted suv stuck in mud. Instead of using a winch, he tried to use a kinetic rope. A kinetic rope won't get you out of suction mud.

    • @RevanCraft
      @RevanCraft 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this numbskull used a very thin ATV/SXS winch plate made for under 3500# winches, and expected it to support a 12000# winch..... Then blames the winch. Only way these idiots will learn is when companies start suing for defamation.

    Please update on the winch when you can. I seen another video where a person mentioned the mounting base twisting and that torqued the body of the winch causing some damage; so I am wondering if the mounting base they supply is too thin and causes this problem. Thank you.

    • @JGMan0011
      @JGMan0011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, somebody else pointed that out. @8:05 you can see that the flimsy base the winch was mounted on was too thin and buckled, then force of the winch seems to have tore itself apart since it was still bolted to the bending metal base. Not pointing fingers for fault, I would have thought the floor of the trailer was pretty strong but others have replied they also learned the hard way to beef up their mounting bases. You usually see winches mounted to super-beefy front bumper designed for them so I guess we don't think about the base as much ....

    Picked up a high mileage 04 expedition. 3000 dollars. Lots of them out there. Needs some odds and ends. Nothing big. Put a set of mile star patagonia tiers on it. The biggest ones that would fit. Rubs a little. So what. Discount tire. I've had my share of jeeps. Plenty of room. I found a 2 gallon air compressor at tractor supply. $69.00. Works great. Put a 2000 watt power inverter in the rig to be able to run it. That escalade has alot of potential. Keep up the great videos. 👍

      I agree. I am in the market for one and have been researching the APEX 12,000. I have not seen ONE bad review. In fact, I watched one where it pulled out a 5,000 pound tractor stuck deep into the mud and another one that pulled out a Jeep Wrangler that was seriously stuck in rocks and again, no problem. This same channel showed a one year review of the same winch and again there were no issues at all even after a hundred serious pulls.
      To title a video with “NEVER BUY” whatever is very misleading and just plain wrong ESPECIALLY when there was only a SINGLE incident.

    Winches typically do that because the surface you have it mounted to flexes. Make sure it is dead flat, and weld some reinforcements on the back side before installing another winch. Even the 5000# ZXR would pull that escalade on that trailer with no issues.

    First of all, the mounting bracket needs to be able to handle greater load than the winch in order to not buckle.
    Secondly, read your winch's manual on page 2 where it explains the ratings. At 9:00 you seem to expect the winch to be rated at 12,000 pounds while at 8:31 you state it was the last 2 feet of pull. When the cable is wrapping on layer 3 your winch is rated at max 7,885 pounds in a perfect straight-line pull.
