I've only begun two/three weeks ago here in the south, but everything took right off. The potatoes grew the fastest, but my tomato plants grown from seed are three inches already. Planted onions, asparagus crowns, took some of the tomatoes out of seed trays and planted them yesterday. I still have to get more storage tote raised beds ready to plant; melons, red potatoes, herbs, bok choy, peas, and get pots for my cherry type tomatoes, and hot peppers. Start your seed trays now, and put them in a south facing window.

I got a roll of DUCK tape. I ran 2 strips across the bottom and ran 2 strips around the box. One strip close to the bottom sides of the box and a strip around the middle of the box so the box would not bottom out or bust along the seam. I planted mine the week before Good friday and 2 more boxes after good friday. The plants are so high and blooming now. I am so excited to watch them grow. We had a bad hail storm here last week and it did not harm my potatoes. I am in southeast texas

Hey Ya'll, greetings from Kansas. I love your videos. Just a suggestion, in your boxes/containers, do your 4 inches on the bottom, lay your seed potatoes, and cover with 3" to 4" of soil. Lay another layer of seed potatoes and cover with another 3" of soil. Then, keep on mounding up as they grow. It has worked great for me and doubles your harvest. That is the goal of gardening. Right?

I've learned so much watching your channel. One thing I've learned is to make use of what I have . Currently I have a lot of garden soil from bags that are filling my earth box planters and grow bags. But it's too dense or the plants to thrive. I decided to pick up compressed peat Moss, bag manure, and perlite in an effort to create my own planter mix when combined with what I have. What I don't have is the physical condition to mix all that soil together even in small batches. What I found online was a concrete mixer made to use a paddle in a bucket. It worked! By adding some amendments or mineral content and micronutrients I can now refresh my soil as I choose. One of the things I'm going to fill will be some of my cardboard boxes that's planters. Thank you we're leading the way.

Still waiting on my slips to arrive (too cold here anyway to plant) but I definitely need to get some out next week. Guess I'll be doing store bought if the seed potatoes don't arrive. You gave me a great idea today. I have a large tote just screaming to be used as a plantar and I'm going to use that for my potatoes this year. I normally do potato grow bags (and they do fine) but I can use those for my cherry tomatoes. I need extra tomato planters because I'm doing some crop rotation this year and I've had such good germination with my tomato seeds, I'd like to plant as many as I can. I'm all about the paste tomatoes because we put those up for sauce and salsa for the winter and I want to be sure I get a bunch this year. Anyway, thanks for the idea about using the large tote for my potatoes, that will work wonderfully for the two of us. I also realized the other day I bought 50 gallon and 100 gallon grow bags over the winter because I wanted to plant cantaloupe and corn this year. How exciting. It'll cost a small fortune to fill those bags with soil so I'm going to watch for sales. I'm going to do what you did and start my corn in cells because I always have to fight the chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits. I bought fencing to put around some of my crops so hopefully they won't get to it. I only have to find where I put it - LOL! Anyway, great to see you both. You always make me smile. You always make me laugh. I can't tell you how important those two things are when you are battling cancer and all that goes with it. It means the world to me to see you out working in the garden and every single time one of your videos end, I get up out of my chair and head to my "grow room" to check on things and get things done. You are both such wonderful motivators to us all! We all love you and pray for you both daily!

This is exactly how we planted our potatoes! The only difference is we used the cheap bags of Topsoil mixed evenly with Black Kow and added some triple 13 and mixed it all together! We laid a plain Jane tarp under our boxes and it’s worked perfectly! As they grow we add more kow/soil mix! Just thought that may help others who can’t afford the more expensive garden soils! Ours are literally growing out of the boxes so yes it definitely works!

I have potatoes about 14 inches tall dark green foliage, looks so pretty and I have even added dirt and hilled them up. A corner by my steps my old dog had dug him a cool deep hole by the steps in the back yard. Being lazy I decided to fill it with peelings and old veggies and make it a compost place. I added old potatoes thinking they would rotten and the nice compost I could plant a pretty flower. Not a flower but very pretty potatoes I think they started growing in March, I planted my potatoes in rows Good Friday, so my red potatoes are a couple of inches tall, my white potatoes are sprouting but aren't above soil yet. I don't think my compost potatoes will do anything too crowded but they sure are pretty.

The other day I thought you said it was the Yukon gold in the boxes. The reason I remember that is because you commented how tall they were and mine are tall as well.

Maybe a small kiddie pool on a porch to put the box in

Thank you for this idea of growing potatoes in a box I had some that needed planted and copied your box growing. Mine have just started coming up so I’m following your potato updates closely!!!
