Your reactions are so genuine :) Thank you! I'm 35 and fell for Elvis when I was 7 watching a black and white documentary with my nan... His voice was out of this world, his charisma, bravery, kindness and presence make him the King to me. I'm so unbelievably happy that in part because of the recent ELVIS movie, young people are getting to know him again. Not just for those last years of his life when he lived a real nightmare in Vegas, but for all his previous successes, what he brought to music, culture, equality, and to us all, for his humour, humility and heart. If you haven't already please watch the movie... Austin Butler did such a great job... He's no Elvis but what a tribute! It also gives such an emotional send off to him when you watch Elvis' final live performance of "Unchained Melody"... His body broken, his heart broken, his freedom taken away, and yet his love for his fans and for music shines through his incredible voice till the end. Another must watch. But maybe after you've watched the movie or learnt a bit more about what was going on for him at the time. Context, as with everything is important. Too long have I heard people say "he drank too much Coca-Cola and got fat". Yes maybe, but that was far far from what killed him... I hope you enjoy! :)

You can see how much fun he was having, teasing his backup singers, ad libbing, cracking up at times--talented but funny and even silly! The audience loved it!

King DeMarion, Elvis's outstanding drummer was the late Ronnie Tutt.

At the 6 minute and 5 second mark is probably my favorite part of this amazing performance. He in practice was always joking around with the Sweet Inspirations which is the name of that group of black women doing backing vocals. And there's a separate small choir of men as well behind and all those people are so good at what they did. But there's some wonderful behind the scenes footage of Elvis just joking around all the time with the sweet inspirations. And that woman in particular that he was fucking with? They had a contest where I don't know they would try to prank each other but the thing he got really good at was just like acting like he was going to scare her and startle her rather, and then acting like no now forget it and then boom there she is startled. She's laughing her ass off even though she's kind of acting shy too. They did this shit all the time. It's so endearing. Elvis fucked with the audience, he fucked with the band members on his stage, and he fucked with himself just because he was always so into it. Anyway that's one of my favorite moments of the show and it always brings a smile to my face every time. And then it comes out of that just twirling and just right back into the intensity of it.

Elvis and his drummer Ronnie Tutt who passed away 2021 was one of the best drummers you’ll notice Elvis looking back and smiling he was looking at Ronnie they were always competing to which one could go harder and longer on the beat!

About the 6 minute mark. Dude I'm so happy you called out that back and forth connection with his incredible friend and drummer Ronnie tutt. Wow. And they were just egging each other on. The harder Ronnie would play and do these impossible rolling fills and stuff in fact this whole part is just a steady rolling drum fill and don't forget the bass guitar player either listen to those like 30 second notes he's ripping off with his fingers that's just mind blowing. But anyway and then the harder Ronnie would play Then Elvis would just start going more nuts and then he'd look back over his shoulder and challenge him to go even harder and it was like a feedback loop. I'm so glad you noticed that and Drew attention to it.

I used to be one of the only young people I know who actually listened to Elvis music or knew anything about him. It’s awesome to see a resurgence in interest in him and his music thanks to the Elvis movie that came out this year. Idk if you have seen the movie, but it’s actually really good. I’d love to see a reaction to the movie

Very observant about the drummer, Ronnie Tutt. The band never took their eyes off if Elvis because they never new what he was going to do. The band and Elvis were very much in tune with each other. Also notice that Elvis's movements are more than just for entertainment, they are also directing the band.

Him pushing himself until he's out of breath was a common staple of his more energetic performances going all the way back when he was like 17 or 18 on those Louisiana hayride shows but also the probably innumerable small gigs he did right around that time all over the south. Unfortunately I don't know of any videos of those, and it's kind of Hit or Miss but there is some decent footage of both years that he did the Louisiana hayride and maybe he did it more than 2 years. But he's super young and even then he would push himself till he was out of breath. It was a common thing. And even later when he was doing television appearances same thing. At the end of his 1968 Comeback Special when he did the tribute to the recently assassinated Dr king, he gave it his all and was exhausted afterwards. And so I think it's so fun in this particular performance of suspicious mindset he really is winded by the time he's doing that and yet he's doing these things that are so athletically difficult,. It makes my knees hurt just to think about going into those super deep crouches when you're already really fatigued and short of breath. But he did it and he gathered and he played back and forth with his band and then he faked everybody out and jumped up with a whole ton of energy to finish it out strong. Just a consonant performer but I don't think people often give him enough credit for being a true athlete which he was.

If you aren't aware that Elvis was a very ill man which began showing up as the yrs. passed on; he had many serious illnesses, one among them was a condition called a-1 antitrypsin which causes a lung condition (COPD/emphysema) also liver disease & he needed the use of an inhaler to help him breathe, so if you hear him cough or seem out of breath part of it was due to his lungs not functioning properly, not just because he worked very hard in his performances (which put a strain on his lungs & heart which were not in the best of condition). Thank you.
