Johnny played 4 songs. Fire on the Mountain, Devils in the House of the Rising Sun, Chicken in the Bread Pan Picking Out Dough, and Granny does your dog bite. These are very old mountain bluegrass songs.😊
Welcome to 1979 and one of the greatest crossover hits that is still played on both classic country and classic rock radio stations today. Charlie Daniels is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
FUNFACT...I was a dishwasher outside downtown Nashville TN in the late 80s (high profile place) Charlie Daniels came in and had one request....to shake the hands of the dishwashers Not cotton-eyed Joe just but like it! ..You too fun! lol
I had a similar experience with Mr Daniel's. He showed up at the golf course I was working at and did the same thing. Very nice guy, but he cheated a little. Lol
The story of musicians selling their soul for incredible talent handed to them by the devil goes back a long time. Not only this song, and Crossroads (about Robert Johnson in 1937 ) and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin, but Paganini from hundreds of years ago (classical composer) was thought to gain evil powers to create the best music.
After this show, they were driving all night to Alabama but their bus broke down coming from Saratoga springs NY. My dad was a coach bus driver who got a call in the middle of the night to drive a band to Alabama. It was this band, this night. Dad told us of stories that make Willie Nelson's or Snoop Doggs busses to shame.
Nobody sold their soul in this song. It was gambled, up against a golden fiddle, but not sold for talent. The talent was innate, and better than the devil’s, so he keeps his soul and wins a fiddle. You should see the sequel, “The Devil Went Back to Georgia,” with Johnny Cash, Charlie, Travis Tritt, and a psychotic fiddle player that’s faster than Charlie. I think I’m missing one other collaborator, but it’s still a legendary set of legends making a superior sequel.
There's a sequel to this song, set ten years later. They brought in 3 other country singers, abd added a session fiddle player named Mark O'Connor. Charlie does the devil's fiddle part, while O'Connor plsys Johnny's part. O'Connor slowly builds on Johnny's part, getting faster and faster, until he's playing it at triple speed. He also plays the notes just above and below the original notes. You almost wind up thinking the fiddle will catch on fire!
Don’t forget that Johnny Cash narrates the Devil Went Back to Georgia while Marty Stuart sings Johnny and Travis Tritt sings the devil. Worth checking out.
One of the first rap songs... before it was a genre! Dr. Dre named him one of the founding fathers! lol. Charlie was one of the best damned fiddle players!
Charlie never got the recognition he deserved, he got a lot of fame. But needed more, playing the violin like that is amazing. Seen many trained professionals not even come close to how good he was.
@KShavon, me beautiful lady, I'ma new ta your channel & from one country boy from Georgia ta a beautiful country girl from Alabama, I honestly and truly love your reaction, js 😊
Charlie Daniels has several other hit songs still in Saigon legend of wooly swamp simple man uneasy rider just so many others to mention ... another legend is Jerry Reed if you're wondering Jerry was snowman in smokey and the bandit he also wrote the song east bound and down for the movie
Rip charlie daniels he was a true patriot and he loved America and most of his songs was about his feelings charlie was very talented he could play many instruments but he was the fiddle man one of my favorites
I was 19 when this song was released in 1979, and the Charlie Daniels Band was NOT played on Country music stations, at least where I lived in the St. Louis area. The one station that DID played CDB was KSHE-FM 94.7, St. Louis' legendary Rock station, where you can STILL hear this and other classic CDB songs from the 70's. The CDB was one of the pioneering Southern Rock bands of the era, along with the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, and many others. Check out songs like Birmingham Blues (from the 1975 album, Nightrider), Blue Star ( from 1979's Million Mile Reflections, the same album Devil Went Down to Georgia is from), No Place To Go (from 1975's Fire On the Mountain), and the title song from 1977's Midnight Wind.
R.I.P. Uncle Charlie i will love and miss you always he taught me how to play the fiddle not as good as he did but i do pretty well.. Awesome reaction. love to you from the one and the only Memphis Tn.
Lmao! I love the comment about the fingers! I have been playing in country bands for the past 10 years after touring with rock bands for 20 years. I have got to tell you I love the country life!
Charlie Daniels now rests in the great beyond. His music lives on in the hearts of those, like my unhumble self, that grew up in the greatest age of music ever. If you love this, try "Still In Saigon", "Long Haired Country Boy", "The Legend of Wooley Swamp" and both versions of "Uneasy Rider". If you want something a bit lighter, try Ray Steven's "The Streak", "It's Me Again Margret" or any of his long list of comedic golden hits. God Bless and have a great day.
Unfortunately, Reactors stop here on Country’s Gentle Giant. Charlie Daniels was a hit maker, trend setter, master musician and a wonderful human being. Charlie blended Country with Southern Rock while, being the best storyteller…Ever! You want to chair groove? React to: South’s Gonna Do It Again. His fiddle goes OFF.
Can't beat great back-yard music. Apparently, my great-grandfather was a string instrumentalist (from what I hear) and I got none of that talent. You just got to roll with what you got. Peace, Love!!
Not cotton eye joe. The line "Chicken in the bread pan picking out dough, granny does your dog bite? No child,no" is from the 30s its from a western swing song called Ida Red.. Ida Red music.th-cam.com/video/pW-lWQBjnFg/w-d-xo.html&si=Zq5tUp4BxSm1veGU Its at the 1:30 second of the song.
When I was young ( I’m 81), they were called TALKING SONGS, in which the artist would usually sing parts of the lyrics and talk parts of the lyrics. Country artists have been doing Talking Songs as long as they’ve been doing music.
We lost Charlie a little over 3 years ago. He was one of the greats in the 70s. He was around 83 when we lost him, but was still touring. he has a lot of great music.. great story teller
I saw him 4 years ago (before he passed in 2020) and at 83 he had more energy and drive than the headliners of that show -- and a good 15-20 years older than they were. He was amazing as a performer.
Your reaction always make ME smile :) I hopes to return the favor and make YOU smile, here is my recent portfolio of potential reasons to make you smile: 1. Know that I just liked this video 2. Know that I just subscribed to you 3. Know that I'm available to be added into your "white boy basket" if there's space. Keep in mind though, adding me to the basket is comparable to picking out a piece of fruit that you've been craving while shopping but most of the fruit has already been picked over and there's not much to choose from. I'm not the perfect piece as I have flaws, I don't possess the perfect shape or form, and perhaps I have a bruise or 2, but if it's something you're craving at that specific moment, then I'd surely do ;)
Took you about 12 seconds before you knew that, hey, these guys are about to bring the heat. Are you a trained musician at all? bc i could see you processing he music first and then committed after Charlie's 1st bar. like you knew the music quality was fire, waited to see the vocals, and knew straight away this is going to be fire. I could be off base-
