Very helpful. Wanted to make a steam punk costume, needed a tailcoat, could not find a used one for cheap that was also my size. Figured it might be easier to just cut my own out of an easily thriftable trench coat.
You can see it whole in the first few minutes. It was a thrift store purchase, so I'm not sure of the exact manufacturer. But it was broadly similar to this one: www.everlane.com/products/womens-double-breasted-coat-toffee?collection=womens-outerwear But you could use the same process on any jacket or coat with a bit of length to it, so long as there are buttons above the waist point.
This was a very useful tutorial. About the only thing left to do to this coat is to replace the buttons, either with brass or blackgrey just to set off the red. I really wish sometimes that I could find anything that would fit me in an op shop.
Glad it was helpful! Replacing the buttons is a great idea. It would be quite easy to do and would really make it stand out. I find op shops vary a lot by region. Getting to some of the larger stores in industrial districts can often help with those less common sizes.
@@ArmouryTerrain If you or someone you know is any good at sewing, you might be able to graft a few panels from the cut away fabric into the torso part of the jacket. So long as it fits your shoulders, it shouldn't be too hard to alter :) I'm lucky in that I can easily find my size pretty much anywhere, but I've done a alterations in the past and besides some messy bits on the undersides for the garment they looked fine and weren't too difficult to do

This is so amazing! I think back with regret on the overcoats I've seen in thrift stores and passed up, but I'll have to start looking again!
This is perfect! I'm hoping to make a Dr Robotnik cosplay and this is BRILLIANT for it!
Such a good idea. Regency men’s style is beautiful. I’d like to get sone outfits made for myself at some point.
This is such a helpful video!! Thank you!
Where did you find such a wonderfully suitable coat to start with? It's absolutely amazing how well it fits the task.
Brilliant idea. More detailed instructions would be helpful, though. Cheers!
What kind of jacket/coat was he wearing in the beginning before you transformed it? A link or some sort of reference would be amazing

@@immersiolarp Clothes my size are not thrown out, they tend to be worn until there is no more wear in them, unless it comes from a deceased estate,

@@nicov5963 Sadly due to my size I get all my jackets custom made. I am not terrible at sewing- being a cosplay and costume designer.
I'm either doing this or becoming the pope, can't figure out which is easier
😂
Great style
Loooove it!!!
can you do this with a old lab coat
That would probably work quite well. We'd love to see how it turns out.
looks great
