    Now we're sailing! I was there anyhow with the sunsets, the steady tiller, and camping cosy on your very own beaches. But paella, beer, and, "encouraging snacks!" Aye aye Cap'ns!!

    Well Done! What a blessing to have such a wonderful cruising ground in which to play and explore. Very good film.

    I sailed the Wayfarer in the Chesapeake. A terrific dinghy sailor and camper. Thank you for taking us along on your cruise. Very pleasant

    What a great trip. We don’t have Wayfarers in Australia, they seem like such a versatile boat. Hat off to your crew, no way my wife would do that!

      Thanks for your kinds words. My wife says to tell your potential crew that camping on the boat was more comfortable than she expected. Wayfarers are pretty rare here, but there are a few, like mine, left over from a run that was made in the 70s.

    ❤ Super cool! Let’s rent a bigger boat and all 4 go through the Panama Canal or something!

      Sounds great. As part of the workup we could all sail this boat through the canal that goes to Panama City from the Choctawhatchie.

      @@jonathanshemwell2458 I"ve organzied a number of trips in the Britsh Virgin Islands and Bahamas in the past. I've talked about doing a trip with the group. The most economical and fun is to get 50'+ monohulls and put four couples on each. We had a blast doing this in the past filled 3 boats. Fun. Maybe we should be having this conversation in earnest.

    Very nice video! I have a Sea Pearl and Compac Eclipse. Lately I’m fascinated by the Wayfarer or CL 16. Live in Michigan. I keep looking around on the internet for a used one. Love that area in the Panhandle and also the Keys. Took the Sea Pearl to Key Largo last year.

    • @jonathanshemwell2458
      @jonathanshemwell2458  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much. The sea pearl intrigues me greatly for its shallow water capabilities and I would like to sail one sometime. I found my Wayfarer in Michigan, so something should come up. I recommend checking on the US Wayfarer site if you haven’t already. (That is how I found mine).You might also inquire directly with the Lake Eustis sailing club.

    Great video, great story telling, felt like I was on the trip with you.
    Question: I noticed you did not have an outboard as backup. Is this how you normally sail or was it due to the March wind forecast and you knew you would have winds for the whole trip. Interested in your thoughts; I don't see too many boats now that rely on sail alone, but it sure seems like a great way to go.

    Lovely! Could I ask what size awning you are so successfully are using as a tent so i can try to acquire something similar for my wayfarer here in the UK? Thanks! David.

    • @jonathanshemwell2458
      @jonathanshemwell2458  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. I believe I started with a 17 ft by 10 ft awning (we call this a ‘tarp’). The idea was to have something larger in all dimensions than the boat. I then draped it over the boom, cutting a slice for the mast, and taped down in all directions to make the tarp taught. Finally, I scissored right at the gunwale all around the hull, leaving extra bits fore and aft to create closures. All of this I learned from Roger Barnes & his book on dinghy cruising.

      Image stabilization probably exaggerates the look of the sea state. It was wet at times but never really dicey. So no, we were our own life raft.

      Great video have seen Sam Holmes sail that area your set up looks way more practical than his cat. A walk through of your set up would be great, may need a more enclosed tent for this side of the pond.

  • @SATSelectChoice

    Please stop exagerating the size of your vessle. It's only 15'-10", not the impressive 16' you stated.. sheez. Besides if it was, you would have to register it. under 16 and no motor=no registration. Great videos. Great boat. Great crew.

    I just bought a 16’ dinghy. Why do you put pvc pipe on your rigging? Seen this a couple of times and wondered if it’s something I should be doing. Thanks in advance
