  • Libya is Africa’s last great unknown. A vast desert country veiled from the West by fear, prejudice and misunderstanding. Once it was home to the richest cities in Africa. The headquarters for the African empires of Rome & Greece. Now it is reviled as “a desert with a dictator in it”. David Adams follows in the wheel tracks of Ancient Rome’s “chariots of fire” - the first wheeled vehicles to explore the Sahara - and discovers a little-known land of exotic brilliance, ancient cities & forbidding deserts.

    Excellent work David. I was particulary pleased by the beautiful occasional background musics which are real composition not some pop jingle with 3 chords, very well edited. Your work of course is more than just photography, you're an explorer, ambassador, adventurer, diplomat and artist. I particularly like to watch your diplomacy communicating with the people of the local culture without falling into stereotypes of tourist or colonialist or hegemonic anglo saxon traveller (which is actually more a reality than a stereotype for united statians and english speaking travellers generally). You have a good touch with people, although on the sober and cold side but probably justifiably cautious in this muslim environment especially with that gorgeous Lybian guide woman. I have no clue what went through her head and what her expectations were for this journey, maybe she is just a pawn, and you were very careful. The cameraman does an excellent job.

    what truly puzzles me. is the need to see a picture of a Chariot in a part of the Romans empire. I don't see how an automobile is different truly. If they reached the ends of the British empire, the Roman wall in Britannia it very much seems inevitable, wherever the horse less carriage Chariot goes the horse carriage Chariot once did. They still like their camels.... way out where they don't act roman or British or European. I mean it just seems like a common sense thing... but I suppose.... nothing is common sense these days.

    I wonder if the journalist really believes that no betting is happening here. There is outright gambling, but also religious leader-approved loopholes to gambling, lending for profit, avoiding the fast and just about every mandate in Islam. Yes, Libyans love horses, but make no mistake that big money is placed on every race.

      The brother undoubtedly works with the father although I find it suspicious that he is able to find resources like vehicles and English speaking guides anywhere but I digress. She’s been very well educated overseas to do this very job - to interpret the local Arabic dialect and keep track of what they are doing (they being the production crew). I have no doubt she works for the Libyan government and that she’s was looking as good as she could for David’s sake without losing respect

It's like a movie where James Bond and Indiana Jones cross paths and their "experts" all know one another, working for various factions of the corrupt government and corrupt antiquities dealers that want to seize and then sell off whatever relics or minerals or unattended children are found.

      You are clueless about the history
      Libya was named way before the Carthage which was bulit Phoenicians! As Egypt was named our ancestors arabes before it's was named kimit
      The long coast of Mediterranean
      The first Gospel Bible was wrote by Libyan siant Mark
      As Libya was mentioned in Torah
      Ancient Greeks

    • @NoelCarroll-wv6qd
      @NoelCarroll-wv6qd 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @JUVENTUS299 Dear Sir, I apologise if you didn't understand me, but I am not one bit clueless regarding what is today referred to as Libya. Firstly, Libya is NOT mentioned in the Torah, as Christians and Jews correctly refer to the Torah as the 1st five books of the Bible. You are obviously referring to 1st Chronicles chapter 1, which is the Tanak, not the Torah, and Libya is not mentioned. Rather, the name Puth, which is the same area. secondly, Libya or in Greek (Lubna) meaning lion, was the coast of almost all of North Africa, all across the maghreb m and not just Libya today, which was called that by the Italian's in 1934 when they colonised the country in 1934. Thirdly, you stated that your Arab ancestors lived there, which is absolutely wrong. It was inhabited by berbers and phoenicians. The umayyad caliphate ( Arabs ) didn't conquer the region until the 640s. You are the one who needs to understand your historical facts. It was known as Tripolatania and Cyrenica, cities in the region. In fact, Simon, the man who helped Christ, carry his Cross in the New Testament was actually from Cyrene. Ramses the second didn't actually write the name Libya on his inscription but you need to research the truth that the most of North Africa west of the river Nile was referred to as phut, lubna, or punic hence the reference to the punic wars. Please don't go around insulting people and calling them clueless unless you know for a fact that they are wrong. I'm sorry if you didn't respect my opinion on the documentary, but I found it to be rather poor and unfactual. God bless you

    • @JUVENTUS299
      @JUVENTUS299 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @NoelCarroll-wv6qd I truly apologize for impulsive response usually tounsians are very nasty trying to categorize the history of region to thier small Zone by stealing the history especially attributing the Phoenician heritage to thier ancestors although they genetically have nothing to do with them
      I would libya is very complicated history yet isn't discovered due to political issues since the 1970 till this moment
      Also the ignorance make it worse
      To not go fact that Torah or assfar didn't mention libya as empire but literally mentioned the Pharoah Shoshenq who have Libyan descale libu and mentioned libu people as well as ancient Egyptians and kushes that was way before tripolitania or cyrinca ever exist
      Because the existence of cyrinca was related to the Greeks immigrants who participated in funding of cyrinca beside the tribes al jettol and other especially from Crete somehow that spreading was stopped by Al masay tribe in oya region which called after tripolitania
      The arrival of Phoenicians put limit to that and created new terms in Africa
      Like tripolitania and numidia
      Libya was god worshiped by people who used to live in libya that what made kimitens or ancient Egyptians called them libu still the berbers or amazigh are the majority although they are arabized but yes my ancestor came during ymmayds clant
      Regarding your point you impressed me
      Likely not all people are interesting about this history
      I can tell that you are Greek or Italian
      God bless you whatever you are from or regardless of your beliefs
      We are brothers for sure 🌹
