Dang 9 shorts from 1 video, super smart. I haven’t tried that strategy yet - only one short from a long form-form video. I’m absolutely loving doing long and short-form on the channel.
Mic activation is not nearly as large a privacy concern as cookies and inter-app tracking. That info is much more 'creepy' and 'invasive' than the idea that someone could listen to your mic all the time and turn that data into marketing points(which isn't a thing).
I tend to watch IG the most, it just has the most content I'm looking for. TikTok just doesn't have the same amount of content I'm into, and their algorithm constantly feeds me stuff I have zero interest in. May try more YT Shorts, but mostly only see those from you guys.
The YT Shorts algorithm boggles me a little - some of my shorts will get thousands of views within minutes of posting, where others only get 1 or 2 total views. I post most of my content to IG since that's where most of my audience (RC and automotive) seems to find short form, but I may do something like Caleb mentioned and try posting a short every day in November and see how the numbers look.
I gained a lot of views from Shorts but only for an specific video and the short wasn't even about that video. I had to hide the video to stop it because I changed my type of content and didn't want that to grow as much as it did. Weird stuff. Anyway, fun episode as always, missed Niles
Hmm (lately commenting a lot here, sorry…), I don’t know if shorts are really necessary on YT. Why „spoil“ another App? Generally, as a creative you have to often make compromises according to gear, media, format etc. and that can occasionally be inspiring - so it might be interesting to try out the limitations of a certain format. But becoming a slave to this kind of format because you want to hit more views is uninspiring for me. Also, as obviously many very young viewers are drawn to shorts I find it questionable for particularly that reason, that it constantly lowers their attention span. As you have children yourself you will probably see, that a child in its early infant years can toggle a toy or any object for a long time if it is just interesting for it at that right moment. When they enter school and start using social media their attention span, which in average would be around 20-15 minutes on one topic, lower quite a bit. This is what many teachers complain about today. And as we all know, the reason for this loss is our natural search for more dopamine kicks, which formats like shorts can spoil, so to speak. Still, longer formats are supported by YT and often get more views and I see that as a positive thing.
Didn't know that you could create shorts from your existing videos, looks like i'm stuck at 5 seconds, maybe because I'm a small channel? idk great info!
right now my 35 year old ass doessn't get TikTok in the same way my 20 year old ass didn't get Reddit in the slightest. I also use my phone very little. It's basically a really expensive GPS for me. I occasionally open Twitter or Instagram (the last 7 days I have 21mins on IG and 7mins on Twitter). All my media consumption happens at my desktop during breakfast and when I'm editing in the evening so when it comes to TH-cam, which I use A LOT, when I see shorts it makes me want to vomit. So, for me it's neither! Waiting on the Sunny Sixteen 35mm film canister holder!
