3 generations of Piccards all held world records at some point in their lives. That's something you don't see ever. I originally had a great deal of respect for Auguste Piccard for his great heights, but then I found out he had a son that went to the greatest depths in the ocean and was blown away. And then this past week, I found out that Auguste had a grandson that was the first to circumnavigate our immovable world in a balloon. Thanks for uploading this historic footage!
English translation: Picard: I published in 1947, a hypothesis of the existence of a third isotope of Uranium. We did not know of it's existence, but with certain reasons to admit, and since it was found, it was named U 235. Interviewer: That's right. And production of U235 is in now known by many Picard: That's right but it is not responsible to do so next clip.... Picard: It is very simple. I was a balloon pilot with a series of beautiful ascensions. And we are in these balloons, we always want to go higher and higher. So it sufficed that I had envy to climb and now I had to get a pretext and reason too. One summer, I was a physicist band it interested me to go to the atmosphere to study cosmic rays and verify certain hypothesis of these rays as they were very mysterious at the time. interrupted by interviewer then asked to continue Picard: yes and another reason was I wanted to show that we could voyage in a cabin that was closed. Interviewer: ah I see next clip.......... Picard: The national Belgian fund of scientific research. It was a Belgian fund that helped me advance my work. Interviewer: So the Belgians were interested directly.... Picard: When I was a professor they were actively interested in my research. Interviewer: So here we have a photo Picard : yes indeed this photograph I am in the cabin used with an atmospheric balloon. You can see the hatch in which we would climb b in and seal. next clip...... Picard: My initial goal was to craft a strong cabin, pressurized. Interviewer: Yes this would seem very important because at the time we did not think Picard: yes we did not think that and we needed credibility. In my defense i explained that I the planes at the time went much faster and to go faster i suggested they needed to go higher for less resistance (drag) and to show that you needed cabin pressure so men could breath. Interviewer: yes and now...no one fears to climb to 10000 metres Picard: Because back then we were afraid of proposing concepts we could not build planes. We can't build, were afraid but it works well now next clip...... His son explains that radio had said his father was dead, the cabin had blew open and him and his assistant were dead. This was not the case but there were still issues with the launch as one of the guide rope had got caught in one of the mechanic cool the cabin. That night a prevailing wind had carried him far from his start and the warm night has slowed his decent as in experiments, he had shown that when the sun went down, the air would cool the hydrogen, making the gas heavier and lowering him safely to the ground. Now imagine this balloon, was the biggest of its kind and the wind had blown him over quite far. He told his assistant to stay calm as they would need every drop of air or they would suffocate. Well during the night, the cabin had landed in the alps of Vienna and they found it the next morning with both alive. next clip..... This clip has very fast French but I can give you the jest of it. His son tells of the Vienna personnel finding him and his assistant after his second flight. This flight, my father dressed in sports clothes for comfort. He was invited to a ball to honor his flight and my father responded I have no suit to attend such a function. The Vienna czar(think its czar) told him not to worry and they would get a suit for him to wear. My father being tall and thin, the tailor told him he did not have anything his size. The czar then said you shall come as is so your accomplishment can be celebrated. Now imagine this grand room with women all dressed up, and men in tuxedos with golden swords and adornments and officers in formal uniforms. There stood my father and his assistant in jogging suits, while the czar introduced him and said these men had just returned from the atmosphere. Another person on the show says" his outside appearance should not matter as his accomplishments would show the man within. your welcome. Why the person posted it didn't bother idk this is not an exact translation as sometimes they talk over each other and I did not add that in. His sons part is not word for word as French grammar is more embellished than English. Just means more words to explain.
Auguste Piccard - "Through portholes, the observers saw the earth through copper-colored, then bluish, haze. It seemed a flat disk with upturned edge. At the ten-mile level the sky appeared a deep, dark blue. - “Ten Miles High in an Air-Tight Ball.” Popular Science Magazine, pg 23 - Aug. 1931
Hi, is it possible to get a translation of this into English? Maybe even just a transcription, like the interview written out in English? Can anyone help with that? Thanks!
I'm very curious what did he see up there. There ain't no record of that anywhere so far I search, it's only about atmosphere and stuff like that. After all they had windows on that cabin, right?

honestly speaking for myself and as much knowledge as I have, I never feel, see, manage to understand any evidence of earth moving/spinning/ piviting/ what have you.... but yet thanks for the comment@@liftingtheveil8361
@@SorusheBarqi_saed You misinterpreted my typed comment, I guess because without verbalized tone, the reader's subjective perception unfortunately (and often erroneously) overrides the author's intention. So, like now, it's not uncommon for texted content and context to get lost, so to speak. Meaning, I think ya missed my point. :) (I meant what I wrote - I DO wish I could speak the French language - fluidly and fluantly. It sounds soft and pretty to me.)

"a flat disc with upturned edges" Auguste Piccard
That is never said in this video.
@@dansv1 what's your point.? Oh, you don't have one😁
Truth is.... earth is a flat plane with the dome Firmament above our heads.
@@laurawofford-brown4351 don’t know if it’s a dome but there must be some kind of barrier to create a pressure system
@Laura Wofford-Brown yep God is real which is why they kept this knowledge well hidden but it's in the word of God and piccard confirmed this.
