(10/2012): Yes, everybody has informed me that Zappa's coffee & cigarettes most likely had nothing to do with his prostate cancer. So my bad on that one. Much thanks to everyone for visiting and watching these videos. Enjoy the Zappa LP tunes!
chungas revenge!!!!!! the best of zappa!!!!!!!!....... en Chile we smoke too much listening these........ sorry dady zappa..... love drugs and rock and roll !!!!!!!!
@echob00mer Congratulations! I'm sure you'll love this LP. It's fun to discover the differences between Zappa's LP and CD versions. I'm glad I could help inspire you to get this album.
This version definitely has it's merits. The way it was meant to be heard by whoever had control of that at the time. Not trying to be a smart alec here but this like so many of the early rykodiscs were just horrible mixes I've heard it with other artists. Just a shame it could have been something. But in his infinite wisdom Frank had this great idea to re-mix the entire library. Frank knew a lot of the stuff out there was crap and I must say the re-mixed versions of a lot of the albums saved the day for a ton of rykodisc recordings. Heard a live version of Chunga's Revenge earlier today sounded pretty good for a bootleg live TH-cam. Long live Frank
@baxterthefuture You gotta admit though, This is recorded from vinyl onto a digital medium and sent over the net and it is one of the best sounding post on TH-cam.
The Denon DL-110 was made for MM phono stages. The preamp in this recording is a Rega Fono Mini, which is MM-only. The gain on the cartridge is 2.2mV, according to Needle Doctor. Trust me, it will sound perfect, and you won't need anything more than your Marantz. What you should really do is have your Marantz 2270 tuned up, get the caps replaced, etc. Yeah, have a techie refurbish the stereo, and get the Denon.
@estvan56 That's a very good question. I'd love to spend a week or two with a good Rega turntable, just to see how it compares to Technics and other Japanese DDs that I've owned. Money is the only challenge right now, but it's all good. And the '70s Marantz stereos are fantastic. I once read an explanation for how the power measurements for audio have changed since then, so the vintage stereos have much greater power than the numbers suggest. Again, good audio gear to be had everywhere.
To gamesDAMN Since you have the Rega preamp, did you ever consider going with a Rega table. Or the Systemdek II is nice as well. Your Mirantz is cool. Japan made good electronics. When you read the specs, RMS is 35W/ch. I've had people brag about their 500W, "made in China" junk receiver. 90% of that is heat, and the rest is low current crud. Your 35W involves decent current. I've been into audio for 25 years, and it's good to see someone using some old Japan gear. Good bang for the buck.
@rcactusl I'm sure Zappa wouldn't mind. After all, it was his drug use - coffee and cigaretttes - which claimed his life. No doubt he has had a chuckle in the afterlife over the irony of this. As long as we're all enjoying his great music, that's what matters most. So relax, drink up, smoke up, and have fun spinning albums!
it's a sorry tale - i've sold loads over the last few years too.. the guy in one shop said loads of 18 yr olds were buying that sort of stuff which i kind of liked as it's giving them the chance to own some great stuff which i've already pretty much got stored on a brain cell from listening loads..playing vinyl adds so much more importance to the music just with how physical the whole process is though..It's a great medium
En aquellos años, de cabellos ondeados y mi sonrisa chueca pero suelta, con esta cancion en mis noches de pasion solitaria, la amaba... Y ahora, lo unico que hago... es recordarla... que fiasco carajo...
Thanks for the post. I'm considering the Denon DL-110, but I'm concerned about gain compared to a traditional MM catridge. I'll be running it through a Marantz 2270 and a Pioneer 115-D. Are you using your MC or your MM connection on your preamp?
You do realize that you said "Frank Zappa never did drugs" then proceeded to name drugs that he did then turned around and said he didn't do drugs again. Cigarettes and caffeine are both drugs. Frank Zappa even recognized this. In interviews he would say that the only drugs that he does is smoke cigarettes and drink coffee.
@KingOfWhiteTrash1 Yes, it seems I'll have to rethink my "coffee and cigarettes" theory about Frank Zappa. It makes for an easy target, and I'm old enough to know that "easy" explanations are almost always suspect. So I'll formally withdraw the claim that smoking is responsible for Zappa's death, until further notice. In any case, he's now dead, and that's a tragedy. We need his musical genius and acerbic wit more than ever.
Those are both drugs, whether you like it or not. Frank didn't do illegal drugs. From the way I see it, Frank didn't like dumbasses. Many dumbasses use drugs as a way to act "cool". I know people like this and they act very rude. They also think the high of marijuana is enough to make you act stupid, which really it isn't
I couldn’t believe this was in the Wong Kar-wai film Happy Together until I saw it, a surprise to be sure but a welcome one
You guys should watch "Happy together" of Wong-Kar Wai.
Love wong kar wai but i refuse to watch that gay ass movie
I saw him live in Chicago in 1974 . He played for more than 3 hours. In that time he never was without a cigarette. Excellen tshow by the way.
Thank you Frank.
que genios! frank zappa es un maestro, un innovador, uno de los mas grandes
Si es...Un saludo desde Italia
Ahhhh, the mysteries of Frank's guitar tones.
So true.....
zappa is god...this song is drug indeed..you dont need drug to feel the power of zappa
You don't need drug. Period
You do all these with a single musical note and a bright mind :D
Great piece of music from Zappa's musical cornucopia; my favourite versions are Dallas, Texas and Rotterdam 1980.
Grandioso!!!

I am sure this guy came from the same planet as Hendrix.
I just won this on an ebay auction!!! :D

Drums courtesy Aynsley Dunbar. Check out Transylvania Boogie, from this album.

He's having a lot of fun out there now with ( among others) avantgarde composer Edgar Varese.....
I've always view the guitar sound as being a Cat attempting to speak! :)
Good one....And true ( sometimes)
That strange guitar sound at the beginning of the track is a Condor, an Innovex "Condor GMS" guitar synth
wah wah clarinet or oboe or something…love this era off zappa..the drums are hip hop as fuck
great album
Master Iller ye man it is..i used to have it on vinyl along with a few others of Frank's then i accidentally lent them out and haven't seen em since
oh man, i never lend out my vinyl

Just a point Daniel Thomas...... Frank Zappa never did drugs! yes he did smoke cigs and drink tons of coffee but NO drugs.X

sax solo !!
electric alto sax w/ wah-wah pedal.
How did he get that guitar tone. Is that a pignose, or what?

"didn't do illegal drugs" my point! X
@fcooett His cancer was treatable had it been found sooner. I haven't found anything stating coffee and cigs cause prostrate cancer.
@baxterthefuture Dunbar is on the drums.
this is the only zappa song i love....
Poor you. You don't know what you are missing.
what? transylvanian boogie not enough for you?
@@makofilms3804 i like that song...its too short though. if it as 10min i might love it too.
Reminds me a little of King Crimson...
21st Century Schiziod Man ?....
that's a sax through a wah wah pedal
minute 6:35 TICKERSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that a virus I can hear
No, his life was "claimed" by prostate cancer, and it has nothing to do with coffee or cigars.
And don't do the drugs they sell on late night television! Ack!!
@gamesDAMNED Prostrate cancer claimed his life - NOT coffee and cigs.
don't buy any of the reissues with flo and eddie. they are not receiving a dime from gail 's fascit hold on franks material
