God put me in a good job that I do enjoy amid some lazy/bad workers. The only problem now is that I do night shifts and my body can no longer handle it. I thank the lord for giving me this good paying job but I just can't do night shifts anymore. Almost 9 years and you never get used to it. I pray that the Lord opens doors and gives me a decent paying job that can get my body acclimated back to days.
Work for the Lord and not to man (Colossians 3:23) I'm currently in a job position that I do not find enjoyment in however I realized that God calls us to these seasons of patience to teach us more about Him and become more like Him.. so in whatever situation you're given be content bc that is God's will for you :)
Shirley Tran great comment! I am a janitor at a college from 10:30 at night until 7 in the morning. It is hard work and my supervisor is really hard for me to work with and please. Your comment was encouraging to me because I know I will face more difficult trials than this job in my life. This is just a way that God is molding me to become more like Him. :)
@@MarlinRoth dude God isn’t controlling if this is your conviction fine but people have a choice where they want to work no job is more spirtual than the other
I just want to share I have been working from past 3 yrs and I never got that satisfaction whether it was work or colleague . I thought may be my fault and I need to change my perspective even working night and day I can't see any appraises from my manager . I would request you all to pray for me so that I would be able to succeed in getting a new job which I can enjoy .
I hate my job and it drains me and sucks the life out of me. I can’t find any jobs I like to apply to that pay enough to cover my mortgage and living expenses.
Skills and passions and longings inside us are purposefully put IN by God to fulfill His purpose for each of us in the earth. And He will obviously put desires and talents for our purpose. 🤷🏼♀️i dont know why that's not obvious to people. A bad job, in my opinion, doesn't mean ur gonna be there forever. Its just a detour. There's a reason God put dreams and desires in you to do something specific, something you've always enjoyed doing. Its obvious He planned for you to do something that is related to a certain desire or skill or talent u got. God didn't create people who hate math to become mathematicians, nor did He create people who can't dance/like dancing to be dancers. He made people who like to lead become leaders, and He made fishes who have fins, scales and tails to swim in water, not fly in the air like a bird and suffocate to death on dry ground. Skill + desire : purpose.
Everyone in the comments feels the same as me haha. This pastor is just plain wrong and IMO he doesn’t even answer the question. No Sir, I don’t agree that God wants His precious children in professions that waste the talents He gave them. We each have a unique purpose on this earth and if you are in a career you don’t enjoy, then your God given talents are not being used and the world is being deprived of what you have to give. The pastor advises us to resign ourselves to a job that’s not our calling and don’t pray with God to ask for wisdom and clarity so that we find something that glorifies Him. Unsatisfying work that our heart isn’t in doesn’t glorify Him. If your heart isn’t in your work you can’t force yourself to love it anymore than you can talk yourself into being happy with a partner you don’t love. Terrible advice.
This theology would have to fit in the context of history and it definitely doesn't. The freedom and choices we have in the U.S. is the exception and not the norm. It's great that we can find jobs today that we enjoy more than others but that does not mean it isn't God's will if we work a job we don't enjoy. Look at Genesis. Work is hard because of the curse. It would be hard to tell most people in Asia or Africa to just find a job they enjoy because it's not an option for them. That doesn't mean God's purposes aren't being met.
sometimes we have to work a crappy job for season until we are fully living our purpose, a crappy job pretty much can be a stepping stone into our purpose. HalleluYAH @@TylerRayHamblin
Nevertheless, the answer is truly biblical. Now, if you read your bible you might be surprised at how Jesus sometimes answer indirectly, answering with a question or in parables, you might take offense at that. But I see thats how just sometimes pastor John answer questions, for me its like cleaning a polluted water making the answer more clearer. So I encourage you, instead of taking offense, let anyone who has ears, let him hear. Bless you
Hate is a strong word for someone calling themselves a Christian…. God commands us to be thankful in ALL things and instead you hate If you have the basics then you do not have the Holy Spirit in you yet. You don’t have spiritual eyes or ears to understand what the Bible says. You could be a descendent of Cain instead of Abel The chosen can hear and the ones that weren’t can’t see, hear or love or be thankful for someone trying to help
I also don't have a job this time, im praying that may God Bless me a Job which I can still glorify his expansion of his Kingdom. Praying for a peaceful Job.
I’ve experienced hard work, hot weather, long days/nights, and miserable conditions. Away from home and family. I had a dream since I was young. I almost achieved it. Over a decade since that dream died. I can’t stop thinking about it. I’ve remembered to say thank you God for provision and never letting me go hungry or without shelter. This gift is more than most have. I’ve prayed for this dream to stop haunting me and to take away the feeling of failure with it. The door has been shut and no mortal man can open it. Only God himself. Someday I say to myself, not entirely believing those desperate thoughts. I lack nothing though, far from it! I have a family, whom I love and will sacrifice for. They are more precious than my dreams. I’m just tired. Really tired. Lord Jesus come quickly. I remember this is not my eternal home.
Absolutely NOTHING should come before the Heavenly Fathers purpose for us! NOTHING! I am going through this now, we may not be in a position to just quit our jobs but we have to answer to his calling! Or we will be called but not chosen! Trust me, I am going through this now as we speak! Decisions has to be made, my aunty a day before she died told me to use the talents and gifts Yah gave me! Trust, if we dont we will regret it when old and dying and even worst we will hear the words "I never knew you depart from me you sinful and slothful servant! pray for his purpose to be revealed!
Same here! It’s hard. Been 30 years. I’m praying for God to lead me into something I can really enjoy. I’ve always done my best, but found little enjoyment.
Either you’ll work an unsatisfying job or you’ll reach that rainbow and God will snatch it away from you, be worse than before as God will be very vengeful like how dare you think you deserve to be happy. I believe that if I work for something to be proud about God will somehow send angels down to ruin me so I just won’t have any ambition.
What I don't understand is that like my friends that went to college and graduated and are now working in their fields which they enjoy, I happened to be the one that didn't get that outcome. So, the answer is YES, because God owes us nothing. It's hard to do a job that I hate regardless if God is there with me, because we can know God is with us and feeling His presence are two different things. I've asked Him, why did I even bother studying and praying for a career that I desired to be at in the first place. It just seemed like I was wasting God's and my time asking through prayer. So, in all honesty, Mr. Piper eluded the question by giving us verses that relate to the question like "do it with joy and gladness," but never said anything direct like that fact that Christians won't get the dream job they've always wanted. So John Piper is wrong.
The Lord would never put more on you than you can bear. So in every situation that you aren’t able to tolerate ask yourself on whether or not you previously seeked God’s guidance before making that decision. Now if God placed you there then it is for a reason and you should seek him again for that reason and wait for a clear answer. If you feel it was not of God then remember that God has already given us rules for every thought or concern that we would ever come across and the rest we are supposed to ask him for understanding. Never sit in a situation where your spirit is not healthy and most of all, make great choices so that you can prevent yourselves from having to be placed in this type of situation.
You don’t like your job, leave. Find an employer that appreciates you and is concerned with your professional growth and development. If there’s no work/life balance or you’re being underpaid or disrespected, then plan your exit. You might have to get certifications or take some classes to get a better job, but do not stay in misery. I just left a job where I was never “off.” I was on call when I left the office and they had mandatory overtime in the evenings and weekends. When I had the flu and was in the hospital, they gave me a laptop so I could still check emails even though I wasn’t being paid. I refuse to work in those type of conditions.
Thank you for clearing this up and providing some comfort I can also relate to you. You’re right God doesn’t want us to stay somewhere where we are mistreated or can’t grow . Especially in a place where they don’t value you a company should see your value and not just treat you as just some number how can we fulfill if we are just thrown aside
I worked for a very stupid man who would get angry because I couldn't do his endless micromanaging. In the end, he successfully slandered my name. And this was in a Christian environment where the pastor let him do it to me. It was pure torture. I am poor but I am free.
- The Bible suggests that God desires believers to find joy and gladness in their work, as indicated in passages like Psalm 100, Romans 12:8, 2 Corinthians 9:7, and more. - The perspective offered is that while believers should aim to find joy in their work, it's not always possible to find immediate enjoyment, especially in challenging circumstances. - The advice given is to take the work available for the greater good, pray for enjoyment, and shape the work to become more fruitful and enjoyable, recognizing God's presence and guidance.
I got my first job the other week in a shoe store. I don't like it, so I don't think it's what God has for me. I want a job that's either directly related to serving the Kingdom, or something in agriculture or construction. Farming feels good in my spirit, I need to ask the Lord. I bet he'll show me one day if I keep desiring to know!
@@SharlenesJourney I was there for about a month. Long story short I’m working at a small business owned by some family friends. Once I get some of my stuff paid off and maybe buy some land it’ll be easier to do whatever I’m called to do.
There was a time in my life where I was doing security and I absolutely loved it but I wasn’t making much so I ask god to bless my income and I found a better job with a better pay within a few weeks and I was there for almost two years and I absolutely hated it, I was still doing security part time so I had no problem with an income but I wanted something I enjoyed I finally had an opportunity to do full time security with the same company I was doing with my part time and I made just the same or a little more depending on the site. I believe God wants you to enjoy what you do and whatever kind of work you do or think you want to do. Ask God for wisdom and then go for it. If you don’t like it you can always quiet and try something else but god will lead the way.
Grateful for the wisdom and insight God has given Piper, always digging into the essence of the question (the question behind the question) and coming up with a sound, biblical answer.
❤ People in the comments are still terribly unhappy and joyless. I don't have answers for them. God's will and calling are often difficult to understand and follow. Jesus was called to the cross. Moses was called to lead and then the task was extended by 40 years in the dessert away from the promised land and then he died before entering the promised land! It's not strange to hate life right now. It's not strange to resent God for His decisions about the life He gave you; Jonah sure did. Ask God for change. People say prayers should be specific, but when EVERYTHING feels or is wrong 😑... broad prayers are a start. With that, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us. Jesus Christ also intercedes for us. "Lord, I need change; please send me change."❤

So many in the same boat… after doing a skill 30yrs the hands and body can wear out whether we like it or not… there are definitely transitions out of employment…. There are transitions from one high paying job to low paying jobs that doesn’t support the lifestyle we had the last 30yrs I have several other skills that require my hands and my strength but my skills I’ve done last 30yrs has caused painful hands and a sore back and weakness. Trying to regain my strength but again nature on body there will be transitions back to sitting a lot, lying a lot then eternal sleep.
That's hard to do when you have a passion to do something else as a career and are stuck doing something else you don't enjoy. I don't believe in patch messages it's not solving issues.
@@bradbryantjr4960 a patch message is like a band aid but the issue still remains. You put a band aid on a wound but it never heals. In other words the real issue is the wound but the band aid is not curing the wound being the message. Issues are not solved by messages issues are solved by God not just words. In today's world there are many messages the preacher teach that they don't practice and there are many teachings that are toughy and are not practiced. In jesus days his message was taught and practiced and they had results the jesus of yesterday is still the same today therefore anyone who preaches and teaches his word must have results. There are to many people today playing church and teaching church but what about being a true christian that teaches and preaches a message the heals the issues and produces fruit just a thought.
I dont agree with john piper on this one, even though he's my favorite. I think God gives us passions for a reason, since He made us. Maybe the bad job is most likely temporary, i dont believe that God will make a bad job the end of the line. Its just detour; He fashioned us with desires and skills all for His intricate purposes. And He's a God of pleasure. He is full of joy and glory. Just look at nature, His creation and-us humans.
I really struggle with this, i am pursuing studies of finance, but don't see the joy of doing it as a job , I do not know how to see the goodness of having a stressful job that I may not enjoy and don't have the confidence of doing it yet.I am praying for god to lead me

I think god still has a way out, he will lead you to a job that is best suited for you, . keep asking and praying. he has great plans and he will guide you continually. God took out natural state to do evil and caused us to enjoy doing what’s not natural to us. He can definitely most definitely give us joy in a career we may never had interest in.
I'm 19 and in architecture school. Here in Africa, because there are so many hardships, young people are not really encouraged to do what they love but to do what will provide money. Due to this, I am so confused because I don't enjoy studying architecture and I'm not even good at it no matter how hard I try. I will struggle through and earn my degree and branch into something I'll be more fulfilled doing.
Hello there, I graduated from architecture school in 2020 and it was really rough. I hated it and wanted to switch majors but I couldnt. It was so stressful and made my anxiety worse. I had countless sleepless nights and all nighters and I fell away from God when I was in high school. Until my junior year of architecture school, one of my friends lead me back to Him and I looking back on it now I am so thankful that God allowed me to go through that. Honestly, the architecture school I went to, I wasn't even suppose to go there. I wasn't even suppose to be in that major. My original major was environmental science but I was failing a class in that major and was doing poorly in my other classes. My English teacher during the time was the dean of architecture and she saw I liked to draw and told me to maybe try architecture. And I did. Like I said, I wanted to switch so bad but I couldn't because God was trying to get me to come back to Him. And He lead me back to Him through architecture school as brutal and annoying as it was lol. There were good times and thankfully it wasn't only you who felt the same way. But I am sharing this because I want to tell you that God may have you there for a reason. You may not see it now, but He knows the plans for you. He knows every detail of your life. If He wants you to stay in architecture there is a reason for it. I would pray for guidance and confirmation that this is where God wants you to be. Have faith that He has you were you are for a reason and He will use this season for your good and His glory. It will be hard. If it were easy everyone would do it. If you need help, maybe we can email each other I would be glad to help you out if you are still in this major. Keep going. I am sorry that Africa has strict limitations but with God everything is possible. He will make a way for you and will never leave you nor forsake you. Be blessed and stay encouraged.

I'm struggling with a related issue currently. I love my job - that is the work itself - but my boss makes it almost unbearable most days. The worst thing is that he (and his wife) claims to be a Christian. Yet he is impulsive and has no consistency whatsoever - he'll make a completely unnecessary and unhelpful rule today and tomorrow he'll get angry at someone for doing WHAT HE SAID, claiming he never said it or that he actually meant something else! He cannot be confronted because he instantly becomes defensive and aggressive and denies everything. When someone does something he doesn't like, he tells everyone EXCEPT the person who did it (sometimes even clients). He swears at staff and even throws things around like a two year old. I've seen him literally jump up and down and stamp his feet, it's just embarrassing. A girl got fired last week and I'm pretty sure it was because he didn't like the way she looked because he kept another girl who is clearly not as competent as the one he fired but she's pretty. And then he goes to church and raises his hands and sings hallelujah on Sunday. How do I deal with this? I've been praying for well over a year for joy in my workplace and I just like it less and less each day. We all try so hard to make him happy but either he remains miserable or he says "yeah that's good, BUT blah blah blah...". Plus he recently made all workers sign a contract saying if we quit or are fired, we can't work in the same industry within 30km, so quitting would be ridiculously inconvenient. But "glory to God" right? I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I constantly ask God to change me, but that feels like it's backfiring because the more I'm changed, the more I read my bible and the more time I spend in prayer, the more I hate working for this man who claims to be a Christian but displays the maturity of a five year old...
God is probably using such situation to draw you closer to Him, closer to the extend that You can acknowledge that I can only depend on, trust in God. I pray that God will speak or show his desires He has for your life as you seek Him through any circumstances of your life.
Some things I know I will never enjoy, like mind-numbing tasks like scanning or data entry. My mind is being wasted and destroyed by this! Shouldn't you always try to better yourself and use your talents and passion rather than settling for whatever you can get and never trying to get more---I mean, maybe some people are only suited for minimal tasks, that which doesn't take much of a mind. Some people are ok with working in a factory. I want to use my mind and be creative! Isn't it best for both you and society when you use your talents to the best of your ability, always honing them, never satisfied, and using what you're most passionate about, throwing the energy from your passion into it so that you get much more done than if you were doing something you didn't care about?
Eowynnofrohan Jesus was a simple carpenter. The God of the universe, who could have used his talents in much better ways, for 30 years of his life, did chairs & tables & other boring stuff. Why? Because God doesn't think like us. Our mindset is "how can I best use my gifts for the well being of humanity and my own satisfaction?" His mindset is "how can I best teach my child more of my own values, how can I show him the difference between my views vs the worldly views, how can I show him more of myself, how can I teach him an unwavering trust in me, so that even in situations in which it's hard to trust, he will remain close to me?" His priorities are different. More than being useful to this world, He wants us for himself, to know his love more with each season & fill us with himself. And he knows, we became truly useful to this world only after he has taught us his "weird" lessons, like working a simple, meaningless job. In moments we don't understand his plans for our lives, we learn to trust him anyway. In mediocre jobs, we learn humility. In repetitive actions, we learn patience. In positions with no prospect of personal development, we trade our earthly ambitions for godly desires. In the most boring moments, we see ourselves as we are. Where does your mind wander to during those "dead" moments of repetition? Is it to good things or bad ones? Do you think of God, his word, his love, or about ugly things? Are you grumpy & dissatisfied with God, as if he is a Santa who doesn't give you a better job, or are you grateful for having a job at all, and thank him even if it's not the dream job? Don't despise your job. It might be the greatest gift ever, through which God is discovering himself to you and teaching you skills and life lessons of great value.
"In mediocre jobs, we learn humility. In repetitive actions, we learn patience. In positions with no prospect of personal development, we trade our earthly ambitions for godly desires." Sounds good in theory, couldn't be further from the truth in reality. I envy those that can do so without spiraling into a deep depression. I did a mindnumbing, repetitive job like Eowynnofrohan described and I tried to hold on. Eventually I had a breakdown and was diagnosed with severe depression. For some people, 'just keep going' isn't the answer unless you want to see a person fall apart. We're not all the same. What works for some, that are blessed with a healthy psyche, may not work for others. My question to you is: what if the joy doesn't come? What if 'thinking' yourself happy/content is not working? Because if there is the inability to do so, things will only go downhill. Now this is probably more related to the psyche but just throwing it in here to show another side. "Don't despise your job. It might be the greatest gift ever, through which God is discovering himself to you and teaching you skills and life lessons of great value." - Imagine despising/loving your job is a choice. That would solve everything... You're painting a perfect picture, assuming every individual has the ability to think his way into motivation. It's great this worked for you, but it's not that easy nor simplistic to others. Especially when dealing with mental health issues. You didn't add these to the equation. Sounds to me the post you replied to deals with depression from the inability to experience joy in/create motivation for a certain job. That will escalate given enough time and won't be solved with a bending of the will. At least medication and/or a change of scenery.
@@wouterzwiep I don't think every individual has the ability to think his way into motivation. On the contrary! I used to hate and despise my job. I talk from the point of view of someone who was also diagnosed and suffered from depression for approximately three years. I know what it means to not have the will to even get out of bed in the morning, wash yourself and chew your food. But I also speak from the point of view of someone who has been saved by Jesus Christ. He gave me the motivation I lacked. Better than that, He became my motivation. I don't think a Christian should ever be forced to muster up motivation for anything, I think he should believe God is willing and able to give it to him, because he loves him. Yes, there are environments that can foster depression, I also had to remove myself from a stressful one when I was diagnosed so I can understand your position, but from someone that is currently studying Psychology, I didn't get the feeling the person who wrote the initial comment is depressed. Dissatisfied and unhappy? Yes, but not depressed. Of course, we don't know for sure from a single comment, but be careful on this tendency to see mental illness everywhere. Depression is a very serious condition. Just because you're sad and you lack personal fulfilment, that doesn't make you're depressed. We are talking here of a whole another level of misery. You must know what I mean. Be careful to not project your own life on other people. My last point is this: our job, our ministry and whatever we do in this life, should never become our source of satisfaction. Jesus is our joy. Jesus is our source of everything and our ultimate aim. I'm not saying anyone should "keep going" or make himself like his job. No, no, no. I'm saying anyone who feels like this should throw himself onto the Lord and expect from him every single little thing he lacks. Faith, joy, motivation, strength, perseverence. Jesus becoming your everything. "Blessed are those who are poor". You are never poorer than when you are incapable of mustering anything from within yourself. In that state, Jesus can show you that He is more than enough for you. I have experienced this, both for my job and for many other areas of my life. I am testifying that He can give everything and anything we lack, for His glory and for our own good. Wait on Him and He will come, for He is faithful.
I find it odd that people feel they have to try to figure out what career they are "called" to do. We only ask this because modern civilization offers many directions, but in Biblical times you were a fisherman, farmer, shepherd, tent maker, carpenter etc....was there really any difference? I believe we should choose careers that fall in line with Christian obedience, that attract and interest us. I dont believe we should try to hear that still small voice about temporal decisions...what job, what clothes, what food etc. I have seen lives and faiths wrecked attempting to hear divine revelation. Ps 1:1, Prov 3:6
A job is a major decision as you will spend much of your time there. Its not a minor footnote that doesn’t really matter. People wanting to do work that is aligned with God’s true purpose for them is admirable and it reflects well on them. They want their work to be one that uses their God given talents as that is the best way to show glory to God.
many of the prophets and disciples had "jobs" but they pursued their calling as well! Today fishermen would just stay fishermen until death! Peter was called from being a fishermen to fishing for men!
4:40 mark - if a slave can obtain his freedom, he should do so. The key question is whether he can obtain freedom in a way that fulfils love. You can also compare with what Max Lucado’s book called Glory Days which says: God loves you too much to give you a job and not the skills to do it ... few situations are more miserable than a job misfit (Chapter 13). 3:20 mark - But I think the implication in the Bible is not mainly that we should refuse to work until we find the work that we think we can enjoy, but that we should take the work that we can for the good of the family, the good of the community, the glory of God, and then pray our way into the enjoyment of it and shape it in whatever way we can so that it becomes more fruitful and more enjoyable. This is correct. But you also need to say that if the boss is abusive, then you should leave. Or like @martina and others say: you should leave when you hate it. But if you cannot leave, then wait upon the Lord. He will save you at the right time.
I'm sorry I was in nursing and after awhile no matter how I denied it.... I hated it... I tried to like it. I came to my senses "What the heck am I doing?" I am torturing myself doing something I despise.. so I got a degree in theology
martina thom Haha. That’s me. In nursing, seeing the over all corruption, largely ineffective modalities, redundant and excessive charting (sometimes connecting to me lying or not getting it done), useless busy body tasks and political distraction that takes away from actually doing nursing work. I’ve been doing it for 10 years, and the only thing keeping me doing it, is the decent money. I’m on the fence about where to go now.
So, if walking by faith, and the fact that I’d drop the nursing gig if it were a minimum wage paying job, then that reveals money idolatry, and a clear answer (it seems) to quit and find more honest work.
I am getting my theology degree now, and I was thinking about switching to medical this night. I prayed for God to give me direction and 10 minutes after the prayer I read your comment! Haha maybe I will stick to theology.
@@judethree4405: Maybe become a Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant, or Respiratory Therapist? Maybe an Xray tech specializing in MRI, CT Scan, Nuclear Medicine? There's so much you can do with that nursing degree! Best of luck to you!
So you got a degree in theology... which verses in the bible taught you to leave a job God put you in because you despise it? Maybe you were meant to share reconciliation with God to your patients and co workers but bc your heart wasnt in it you quit.
I can’t help but sense an air of smugness in his answer. He being a pastor for so long its easy for him to say all this. The many books he’s written and the millions of people he influenced, yeah good for you. Try working a job you hate for once, like the TSA where I work, where at the same time struggling with anxiety and digestive issues caused by the job and come back and see if you can answer this question the same.
Go find a deliverance ministry. Read the Bible 24/7 even if in listening to it. If you are having issues with self control it is not of God If you are not close enough to God, you can be full of all kinds of demons especially if you’ve been living in sin.
this was so good! I don't tend to think about 'the world', that definitely helps put things into perspective. It helped a lot knowing now that it is important to think about a job that is done for the good of society and mankind, not just selfish work. I wish he would have given examples when he said "...and shape it in whatever way we can so that it becomes more fruitful and more enjoyable," because I don't think American work culture allows for much room for that freedom and creativity unless you have your own business. I don't know but it seems like a place where there wouldn't be many laws. It has been hard for me to be realistic, and I guess is because I don't think or focus too much on my environment, since I dislike it. I want to move out of state but need a job.
Pray that God leads you to the right path that will let you serve God’s children with the gifts and talents you were given. Don’t settle for wherever you land or whatever job is available. Seek and you will find Jesus promises us.
It would be difficult for Christians throughout history until the mid-20th century to imagine the luxury that could lead to such a question. Joy is not an effect but a purpose of the will in the work.
Good perspective... However, it doesn´t answer the initial question, which I`d say should be answered first... Can someone be called to a career they do not enjoy? Since it should be answered yes/no, what happens next (God`s ability to provide you the joy) is something not directly related to the first premise... And I`d add, How can i distinguish whether it is thet "I am called to a career I simply don´t enjoy right now" from "I am trying to fit in a place God doesn´t want me to do"? (just for further discussion) God bless the people behind all this Ask pastor John project
I think he answered it pretty clearly, because it was the question's problem for not stating whether he meant "not enjoying right now" or "not enjoying the job forever"; it's possible that we won't enjoy the job at first, but that doesn't mean we won't find it enjoyable later. I think if we give our best efforts, try as long as we can, and keep an open mind and open heart for the holy spirit to work in us, God's able to transform our attitude. Of course, if we see another opportunity come up that really suits our interests and will be good for the family and we find it more possible to glorify God in that workplace, I think it's okay to switch to that. But if we're stuck in a job (we can't find anything better) I think it's God putting us in that place (at least for the time being, who knows for how long), and we should just do our best.
I can assure you that even through all of your fanciful constructs, that Gods people can and do most certainly often find themselves in miserable jobs, careers, and prisons of work. Through all of the hope and prayer for contentment there are many lives lost to career misery. They never heard from God or never recived directiom or even a way out. When the storues of these peoples lives are written, it is concluded with anger, regret, and bitterness for the illl contentment and broken heartedness.
What if Joshua already tried to do all this and his question came after many attempts that were fruitless, for example because this job is causing his health to deteriorate and he is worried about the long term sustainability or the possibility of supporting himself and his family through it? And let’s say he doesn’t have the freedom to release himself from it in the foreseeable future? Would we still have reason to believe that is God’s calling or would there be other possible answers?
Unfortunately, the career I currently find passion in has been hijacked and claimed in the name of god by witchcraft, so it makes me doubt whether or not god wants me to keep going down that path. Can someone shed some light here?
God give me a dream that I can't reach...maybe I should stick up in accountancy. But I don't like accountancy it's just my second choice I've been dreaming what I wanna be when I was 6 !!! But I think my dream doesn't fit with me😰
I AM NOT PAUL!! JESUS DOESN'T SPEAK TO ME DIRECTLY NOR AM I WORKING FOR HIM DIRECTLY! SO FINDING CONTENT IN ANYTHING ISN'T THE SAME FOR ME AS IT IS WITH PAUL!!!
I don’t disagree with anything here, but if you take this logic completely, then you leave no practical reason to change careers. As if that’s not within the right of the Christian.
Please . God called Jeremiah at a young age to be a prophet. He did not have a choice. When he stopped preaching . He did not want to do it. It burned inside of him. He was preaching and his friends and relatives mocked him. He was beaten and thrown in a pit. He did not like his job. I take comfort in this because God said he will sustain Jerimiah threw it.
it is an easy question , I disagree, if you really don't like your job... and I don't mean like you had a bad day.. but you actually go in everyday repulsed..Leave asap!!
Find joy in all circumstances and ask for wisdom why God placed you at your job or in your relationship. You dont just get a divorce because you dont like it anymore lol
Mulanya gimana?..koq bisa ga enjoy..kadang kita..lupa bersyukur..apapun ga akan kita sukai jika ga diawali dgn syukur dan karakter bersungguh sungguh pada setiap perkara
He doesn't care about your happiness unless your one if the annointed favorites. Its about the end game and his plan. This is easy to a preacher because the only effort they put forth is their mouth. It explains why most preachers are more like women, very effeminate and weak.... Pastors want you to play happy so you reflect well on them. Help fill the egos and the coffers.....
Fully agree.
Listen, It's hard but this is the truth: God does not care about your vocation, He cares only about his Glory...even if that means your sadness. I always wanted to be a professional classical musician, God prevented me from becoming that through my parents...He forced me through my parents into a career path that I never wanted. I still want to be a professional classical musician, I'm 30, almost 31. HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR VOCATION. EVEN IF IT'S A LIFELONG VOCATION His answer: You have the job that you hate and what you wished was you profession as a hobby. It's that simple.
In my earthly opinion careers and jobs aren’t meant to be enjoyed. You do those to make money. They aren’t meant to inspire joy. Only Gods calling can inspire joy. That will likely have nothing to do with your career.
@@solaceboy I’ve had a change of heart here recently on my opinion of this. I’ve worked for someone else for ten years now and it always felt miserable. Only about two months ago have I made a change to become an entrepreneur. I’ve worked many jobs and all of them I’ve ended up feeling miserable and hating it. I think I had to suffer and struggle to prepare myself for the journey I’m on now. I hope this is the start of a new chapter.
But doesn't God want you to do a job, that you want to do? Something that excites you? I must be happy. I feel called to be a mechanic by trade. I feel because I am in this toxicity, I should get a different job.
Some people just like making situations to look easy and use the Bible to back up their ignorance...if you ha e never been in a toxic environment you will talk like this man. I am sorry but I disagree with him
Tell you the truth,God doesn't give a hoot about your job what so ever.He don't care about your goal of a big house,a nice car,a new boat or motorcycle,or fancy cloths. Not even one little bit.He cares where you are going to spend eternity, about moral ethics, about compassion, regard for your fellow man,the exalting and praise, for Himself and His son Jesus and the Holy Spirit.Everything else is your own selfishness, vanity, and covetness. None of that junk impresses God,and won't get you one inch into the gates of heaven. But to love God and His Son Jesus will get you in so priorities are everything,SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS AND ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED TO YOUR LIFR. NOT VISA VERSA.
So you think skills and passions are put there by the enemy as a test to see if you will endure a job of drudgery? That sounds ascetic, much like the Poverty Gospel. So your position is God is not concerned about our earthly lives? Sounds like limited sovereignty....to be so Heavenly minded as to be of no earthly value.
I personally dont like my job i mean theres only a few thing i dont mind about it. 1 is the pay 2 is helping people and 3 there is a job there that i really want to do and its driving. Because im an introvert in an extrovert job its not nice all the time +because my life has deterierated i personally feal branded and well somedays i do just wanna do somthing i might regret but theres only 1 thing that keeps me in that job and its the posistion of being a driver so i can kick start my career. I found god inearly january of 2021 and i knew that after all thouse slepless nights the days of not wanting to go in in 2020 i was hoping that things were going to get better in the new year bu they didnt and not gonna lie i thought about offing myself 4 times but i didnt i held on to hope. And after 1 day in 2021 i felt like i was just a ghost floating around aimlessly not know how much longer i could keep going but when the night rolled in i had a shower and decided on an early night and through tears i decided to pray and ask god to take my sins and not let me live in someoneles and i had my first out of boady experiance i was only 21 and i felt completly calm and i felt like i was being lifted for about 3mins but yeah ever since then ive had sighns, feathers and more things happen to me. so i definatley fell like hes saved me from that state and guiding me to a better life so yeah hopfully everything will turn out ok. Praise be to our loving father coz hes always there for us and he loves us perfectly amen.
How is it now?

If it doesn’t provide and cost of living increasing and yet no raises
This means it’s time to move on to something else
I hate my job and it drains me and sucks the life out of me. I can’t find any jobs I like to apply to that pay enough to cover my mortgage and living expenses.

Well said. Amen.
@Heather Mamatey- Thank you for your post. Great points stated. God Bless!! 🙏
I hate it when people change a person's question to make it easier to answer. Just answer the question as it's asked. People are hurting out here.
God commands us to be thankful in ALL things and instead you hate
If you have the basics then you do not have the Holy Spirit in you yet. You don’t have spiritual eyes or ears to understand what the Bible says.
You could be a descendent of Cain instead of Abel
The chosen can hear and the ones that weren’t can’t see, hear or love or be thankful for someone trying to help

Be grateful, joyful, and prayerful in all circumstances
Excellent post, thank you!! God Bless!!
I knew people like this. Their parents paid for everything so they could 100% focus on school without being hungry.
Thank you for your post Candy. What you wrote is very relatable. God Bless!! 🙏
That was a horrible job, that could take your life 😢
- The Bible suggests that God desires believers to find joy and gladness in their work, as indicated in passages like Psalm 100, Romans 12:8, 2 Corinthians 9:7, and more.
Excellent answer, Pastor John! God bless you!
I got my first job the other week in a shoe store. I don't like it, so I don't think it's what God has for me.

That's hard to do when you have a passion to do something else as a career and are stuck doing something else you don't enjoy. I don't believe in patch messages it's not solving issues.
What is a patch messages?
Hello there,
I graduated from architecture school in 2020 and it was really rough.

White Night just pray for him and love him and keep yourself so you don't slip Remember to do it in a spirit of meekness brother
God is probably using such situation to draw you closer to Him, closer to the extend that You can acknowledge that I can only depend on, trust in God. I pray that God will speak or show his desires He has for your life as you seek Him through any circumstances of your life.
This man desperately needs your prayers.
I say get out while you can. I was working for a man like this myself
@@tehranrussell6667 there is only so much people can take
Some things I know I will never enjoy, like mind-numbing tasks like scanning or data entry.
It might be the greatest gift ever, through which God is discovering himself to you and teaching you skills and life lessons of great value.
tabita stan very well said and interpreted...
@@tabby25hope You're right. God bless you. Thanks.
I am miserable in my job...I am not able to ve content...
Yes. This is so true. Thank you
A job is a major decision as you will spend much of your time there.
I'm so mad about my boss didn't pay my salary on time! So tired about this!
I got fired from my job for swearing , been in mental hospital and lost my driver license please pray for me I need a career

Read the Bible 24/7 even if in listening to it.
If you are having issues with self control it is not of God
If you are not close enough to God, you can be full of all kinds of demons especially if you’ve been living in sin.
this was so good!
The problem is allways with our attitudes....
Pray that God leads you to the right path that will let you serve God’s children with the gifts and talents you were given. Don’t settle for wherever you land or whatever job is available. Seek and you will find Jesus promises us.
I love this I feel contended and comforted
What about bullying & persecution in a hostile work environment? Why would God allow me to continually have jobs that are godless & full of evil?
That's what I want to know too
Exactly!
What does God gain by placing you at a low paying Job?
It would be difficult for Christians throughout history until the mid-20th century to imagine the luxury that could lead to such a question. Joy is not an effect but a purpose of the will in the work.
Thanks
Good perspective... However, it doesn´t answer the initial question, which I`d say should be answered first... Can someone be called to a career they do not enjoy? Since it should be answered yes/no, what happens next (God`s ability to provide you the joy) is something not directly related to the first premise...
And I`d add, How can i distinguish whether it is thet "I am called to a career I simply don´t enjoy right now" from "I am trying to fit in a place God doesn´t want me to do"?
(just for further discussion)
God bless the people behind all this Ask pastor John project
20 years in a career that i dont enjoy....Does Bible talk about career satisfaction 😢😢😢😢
🤯 great points, Pastor John.
So short answer, yes but figure out how to enjoy the things you don’t enjoy through G-d.

Please . God called Jeremiah at a young age to be a prophet. He did not have a choice. When he stopped preaching . He did not want to do it. It burned inside of him.
Love (god) did not create fish to climb trees and love (god) did not create US to do stuff we hate.
Fully agree.

In my earthly opinion careers and jobs aren’t meant to be enjoyed. You do those to make money. They aren’t meant to inspire joy. Only Gods calling can inspire joy. That will likely have nothing to do with your career.
I disagree. I know many Christians that enjoy and love their jobs. As for others, they feel they got screwed with miserable jobs.
