Chef Alvin doesn't mess around. He is so respectable; despite how strict his criticisms portrays him. The fact that he respected not only their plates, but their culture, shows how passionate of a chef he really is. Also, Alvin's constant disappointed father act to Eric is great lol He's not always disappointed; but he definitely had a hand in making Eric determined to win Masterchef Canada.
You see the difference in cultures there: while westerners want you to win, they go easy on you; but when Asians want you to win, they push you harder than anyone else

He knows when to recognize and when to put people in their place. It has nothing to do with he thinks he is better but he will not tolerate disrespect from contestants. I'm from the USA so our version is OVER DRAMATIC because people here are over dramatic. So it is nice to see how everyone is like in their country
