Yes the 'Tongue & Groove’ Big Band are great, they are the best l know and for a setting such as the RAF Museum Cosford they were THE band for me to present to our audience....they play anything superbly, from the "Battle of Britain" to the ' Beatles' . As you say Cosford is a superb venue/ museum, so l will attach a few more videos showing more of it. And I agree it is a shame that we have no 'flying' Mosquito in the UK, but flying anything doesn't go without the risk of losing it (how we lost the last airworthy UK 'Mossie' (RR299) and more importantly any loss of life that goes with it. I'm sure we will get to see one fly again at some stage, but in the meantime we have Tony Agars taxiable masterpiece of Mosquito restoration 'HJ711' at East Kirkby that features in this video. Hi Michelle Thank you for this comment, and the one you have left on our RBL Centenary Poppy Appeal video which l will also reply to. Its great they are both still receiving attention and being enjoyed. I can claim no credit regarding the excellent photography of Mosquito 'HJ711' in this video, that all goes to Lucy Holland who has a great eye (well two actually) for what looks right and different for visual effect, Lucy is also responsible for the brilliant editing of our videos too. I have said many times before and in my other replies you can read on here that the 'Tongue & Groove' big band are ALWAYS in the right 'groove', as a band they play these famous and much loved classic movie themes as people remember and want to hear them played, not as some so called reimagined jazzed up version...if it ain’t broke , don't try and fix it ! Had the pleasure of talking to Tony a few years ago, such a humble man. I can't see TPM getting theirs finished any time soon(!) But this is the next best thing now its running. The band needs to be playing as the aircraft starts - goosebumps thinking about it.
Sylvia, its good to hear from you again, how did you pick up on us this time ?. Pleased you enjoyed the video, and yes Tony seems a very unassuming and humble guy, but what an achievement to bring a 'Mossie' back to life in the UK, his dedication alone...should be 'Sir Tony' as far as l'm concerned . Regarding the theme from the film '633 SQUADRON', yes stirring stuff indeed and would have to agree with you that having the best big band l know the 'Tongue & Groove' big band play it as the 'Wooden Wonder' started up would give many the 'Goose Bumps'...including myself, so much so that several years ago l offered to organise a Lancaster NX611 fund raising concert at the centre with the band playing 'Music From The Movies" Dambusters, Battle of Britain, A Bridge Too Far, Reach For The Sky....and of course '633 SQUADRON', the offer was made but for some unknown reason was never taken up, but as with our event at the RAF museum Cosford that this version of '633 SQUADRON ' was recorded at ,an event that sold out months before and l know a similar event at East Kirkby would have been equally well attended and received. Another brilliant video Gary, atmospheric pictures capturing the essence of a beautiful plane. Perfect music choice too - as good if not better than any other band I've heard play it. Not often you see angles like that in pictures of aircraft, great captures and agree with others about the band - superb rendition of a classic theme.
