What people think, is it's nothing to do with what they've done, sitting there looking out at their fully block paved, or imprinted concrete space that used to be a garden. A space now used to sit their two/ three cars on. This means that not only is there no longer somewhere for the rain to soak away, it now runs off into an already stretched drainage system. Then you've got the heat reflected off the surface when it's sunny, rather than it being absorbed by the grass and other planting. Then they've removed all the plants that turn Carbon Dioxide into Oxygen. Finally add this up for every household that has done this in your street, then look at across the towns, cities etc and you are looking at a large amount of land, that once helped keep the air cool and allowed the rain to filter into the water table, has disappeared under concrete. Open you eyes people! This isn't just a government issue. It's on your doorstep!

Quite simple if the planning authorities have the nouse to do it. No more block paving use plastic grid and 3/4 inch stone. Clean footing and easy water drainage.

Yet again England gets a bit of rain and it's headline news........... should see it here in Scotland, where we got 10 times the amount of rain. Even Noah would have kept the Ark moored up, never seen anything like it, trees down, roads literally washed away (and I mean gone, no tarmac left, nothing but a muddy trough) power lines down (just dangling there) - - - - - not that I'm complaining, at least it stops the wife cooking!!!

    All you EV owners...
bear in mind the Tesla owner whose new car was recently towed in after getting damp from heavy road spray.
He was none too impressed with the repair bill of £17,500.
New batteries are not cheap, but a car with a compromised battery cannot be driven.
There is no possible comparable disaster with an ICE car.
EVs a few years old are being written off, because the cost of a new battery can be 50% of the value of the car.
Thank heavens, at last, the corporo-governmental greenwashing is being recognised.

Took me 2.5 hours to get home to Matlock from Derby and at that I had bailed out at 1pm. Any later and the A6 would have been flooded through Milford and Duffield.
It was blocked at Ambergate as it was. Had to go to Alfreton then Stretton then Ogsten Reservoir to Ashover then Slack Hill to Matlock

  • @janebrown7231

If you got your EV battery wet, even from upward spray, the recommendation is to park it 50 ft away from any other vehicle for 3 months, until you are reasonably sure that no short is developing between cells, leading to thermal runaway.
    Good luck with that one!
At the very least, when your battery explodes, make sure your car isn't blocking your fire escape route by being parked close to your front door - or anyone else's.

      Consider this:
‘Electric cars are noticeably better when driving through water than ordinary internal combustion engine cars because they do not have air intakes for the engine or an exhaust pipe to worry about.’
      And:
‘why did he decide to drive his brand-new Tesla Model S Plaid underwater? Well, like many of today's aspiring social media influencers who are working to get more views and followers than the competition, Chet was trying to come up with a good idea to launch his TH-cam channel. He chose to drive the £120,000 electric car underwater since nobody else has done it before, or at least not intentionally and with video to prove it.
While Chet had many ideas over the last six months for launching a successful TH-cam channel, and most of them now appear as videos on his page, he says the Model S stunt kept "bubbling to the top."
This really comes as no surprise. Sadly, most of the news that gets the most traffic these days is the weird, silly, and dangerous content. In addition, if it's original, meaning no one else has something quite like it, it's almost destined to get plenty of love from Google.
At any rate, we've seen Tesla cars driven in floods for years. CEO Elon Musk has even said that the brand's vehicles can function as a boat for a short time’

If it’s a puddle it’s an inch or two. If it is as deep as that a) the car will float b) the the air intake will suck up water and hydraulically lock the engine which can bend connecting rod. It will also mess up the air sensor in the injector system.

The important thing is to know your car's wading depth - my old X-Trail could wade up to about 350mm, my current Disco4 can wade up to 700mm - the new Disco5 and the new Defender can wade up to 900mm. BMWs are the worst as their air intake is very low.

Nothing to do with climate. Try building on floodplains so water speeds up instead of slowing down. Plus most surface water drains are blocked and haven’t been cleaned in a long time.
