As he explodes in the concentric phase he uses as many muscle fibers as possible. as he comes down he uses slow excentric movement to recruite many muscle fibers also. He uses this with functional movements a push then a pull basic but very effective
Now, what caliber of football players have come into the the ring in your experience? That may be the difference in our opinion. I have seen college level athletes who have played football move into MMA and have had much better conditioning than those who started in MMA.
I was doing something similar to this style of strength work at home for my lower body. I would do 3 pistol squats per leg with a weight allowing for only 3 reps, followed immediately by 10 jumping squats while holding that same weight. 5 rounds, 60 sec rest in between. It would take no more than 7 min 30 sec to do. Very quick and intense way to blast your legs!
At 1:36 the trainer says the dumbells are 110lbs each not 150. I'm not disagreeing with your general premise but 40lbs difference with a dumbell is a big difference. That being said my comment about a 150lb bench press was just a general one.
That's true people, universatile is right. Don't just give him thumbs down because you hold GSP' training on some untouchable level. Training the negatives slowly causes you to take a LOT longer to recover. If you don't beleive me, try it your self. Bust out 5 sets of 10 @80%, then proceed to Smack your self when your muscles still ache a week later, from that one day @ the gym. LOL
@dannydollarfan1 goddam absolutely right. hes on another level. i herd he could have been a proffesional hockey player. i know hes good at ployometrics but i didn't know he was this strong.
Very well then. When you are NASM, ISSA, ACE, and CSCS certified, you can tell me the way I train is incorrect. By the way, what in your resume or education, even, gives you insight into HOW to train people. I never said these workouts were incorrect, but rather, not as effective. GSP is a dominant figure in UFC because of his fighting technique. Technique and conditioning are two different training fields.
He doesn’t weigh 175, he weighs 190 around 10 percent bodyfat. If you weigh 190 at 10 percent bf and lift weights regularly you should be able to press 110 dB bench for 3. Of course weighing 190 at 10 percent bf at 5’10 with gsp’s fight skills is incredibly badass.
so are you saying st. pierre isnt getting anywhere because hes only doing 3 reps. st. pierre has got some of the best conditioning in the ufc. thats why hes the champion.
I'm a little concerned at those medicine ball throws about a minute in. It looks like he is bending at the waist only putting a lot of stress on the lower back, does anyone know if this is a practiced way of actually doing these?
@TKfanx94 power conditioning. you seem to have alot of strength, endurance and obviously cardio, but anything with transfering weight from one distance to another is power. for example, i bencpress 300 pounds slowly, but you benchpress 200 but super fast, thats called power.
No, you still need power to bench 300 pounds slowly. When you are lifting near maximum your muscles are contracting as hard and as fast as they can, it’s just the added weight makes it slow. Remove the weight and lift the bar just as hard and it will fly up.
@13seven13 I doubt he will, he had a hard time against kampmann, GSP is a smarter fighter with a great team. Shields might have the edge on the ground, but a hair at most. GSP is much more rounded, It might be an exciting fight but he's got a long way to go before taking the belt.
GSP's back isn't even that big. It's just his tiny waiste and good bone structure that makes EVERYTHING look Street Fighter 2 like. Plus, even though his muscles are small, they're VERY matured and dense. IDK if that's natural hyperplasia or a result of external igf-1 but cha'.
@dtanktdtank gsp is great though he is wee piere scared to move up he needs 5-7 months to fight each fighter at 170 he is great because he sticks to a game plan like no other and trains for each fighter for many months. Henderson has balls he will fight anyone with little notice at a higher weight class. I love gsp as a fighter but he is like mayweather in boxing a safe fighter
This is walter really. Yes, that is my real name. And I ...will beat GSP in 3 years time. I am a legend in the making. I am training really hard and once I prove my claim in 3 years, people will hunt this very post to see my early belief in my abilities. I am tough and have no emotion. I train relentlessly and have 3 glasses of Ovaltine in a day. I am fuming now. Look out GSP.
@CopyNinja87 to me its not really boring like alot of people like to think, but if you've ever grappled or anything like that you'll understand the technique that goes into the ground game. either way standing or on the ground gsp will dominate, theres isnt any fighters in the ufc welterweight division that can beat gsp at the moment, and yes that would be a good fight if gsp fought silva, but just wait silva will have his first tko or ko loss to vitor belfort. first or second round tko or ko
I'd really like to see Anderson Silva drop the weight and take on GSP. He's bored where he is, and show boats too much, he couldn't do that with GSP, and I'd like to think he knows it. It would be an amazing fight.
@CopyNinja87 true, but he would get smashed on the stand up if he doesnt change his striking style. hes too stiff and slow when throws his punches and gsp is too quick and powerful for him. i say he might not even win his ufc debut, but who knows?
acutally...110s for someone who walks around 190ish isnt that crazy...but by the way he's built and how easy it looked yeah he's pretty strong no doubt thats why hes champ
He doesn’t weigh 170, he weighs about 190. Ufc fighters cut on average 20 pounds in water weight before the fight and gain it back before they get in the cage.
Ok 110, I beleive u. This isn't a bench press BTW. This is a dumb bell press. I can bench press 225lbs for a good 7 reps but can only do that with 70lb dumb bells. Big difference.
No way Shields would out grapple GSP. GSP is just way too strong and fast for Shields. GSP would take him down and be ontop of Shields. Shields wouldn't beable to reverse it. There are better WW's than Shields, like Fitch and Alves.
Not as effective as WHAT? GSP is a great fighter because he has technique, power AND strength. And his cardio is solid. But what Chaimberg is doing here is working on GSP's strength and power. GSP takes people down because he has good technique, BUT he has the power and strength to finish the drive. All the wrestling technique in the world is useless unless you have the speed and power to go with it. And I train with a guy that fought GSP and he said GSP is strong beyond description.
Again, not necessarily, watch this: Does this guy look like he has the size to dead and squat 704 lbs? Well he's only 165 lbs!!!! His arms are not that big at all and yet he is deading over 4x his bodyweight. Most 200 lb bodybuilders can't dead 704 lbs. Yet their arms are twice as big as this guys. And I have never seen a 200 lb bodybuilder that can dead 4x his bodyweight....or even close. Yes, a bigger muscle can be a stronger muscle, but only if it is trained properly.
GSP is just on another level as an athlete
the hurdle jumps are impressive
OMG is he using 110 dumbbell in each hand???? Holy shit the big guys in my gym have trouble doing it with 90 lbs and they weigh 265
Smart, functional training right there. He's a good trainer.
weight vest is awesome and GSP focus on safe and good technique is great! and seems to be rarely seen by a lot of other trainers...much respect!
Awesome training!!!
Great trainer!
it's an explosive exercise that also targets the lats, which the pullups were also targeting.
Complex Training well done to the S&C coach for reading his stuff.
As he explodes in the concentric phase he uses as many muscle fibers as possible.
as he comes down he uses slow excentric movement to recruite many muscle fibers also.
He uses this with functional movements a push then a pull basic but very effective
mad respect for all mma and ufc fighters extreme training but they make it look easy, gsp is a beast
Yeah, just found it xD
It says in the beginning of the video. He usually does chin-ups with 100 lbs. But he only did 90 in this video
I actually really like the mix between fast and slow wieght training think I'll add that into the old routine
Now, what caliber of football players have come into the the ring in your experience? That may be the difference in our opinion. I have seen college level athletes who have played football move into MMA and have had much better conditioning than those who started in MMA.
wow, GSP cleared those hurdles with a few inches to spare !! insane...
@Gwedo898 No, he said it was a 110lbs dumbbell press, not 150
I was doing something similar to this style of strength work at home for my lower body.
110 pound both hands thats insane strenth for a fighter
The 3 reps are for max power. If you think it's easy, try it.
You guys whould see Sean Sherk training, it's pretty incredible.
I don't know. I wrote that comment two years ago lol. It didn't say in the video? I'm at school right now so I have no audio at the moment.
This guy turned gsp into a monster in mma.
GSP IS THE MAN!
At 1:36 the trainer says the dumbells are 110lbs each not 150. I'm not disagreeing with your general premise but 40lbs difference with a dumbell is a big difference. That being said my comment about a 150lb bench press was just a general one.
At the end with the rope pull... How is that hooked up and where is he getting the resistance from?
good shit
That's true people, universatile is right. Don't just give him thumbs down because you hold GSP' training on some untouchable level. @dannydollarfan1 goddam absolutely right. hes on another level. i herd he could have been a proffesional hockey player. i know hes good at ployometrics but i didn't know he was this strong.
Holy shit!! He's really strong for his weight
oha loool can't believe i missed it :P thanks!
3:05 GSP is Jean Claud Van Damme!
@tmacowns And pull-ups with 90 pounds around his waist .. Intense!
Very well then. When you are NASM, ISSA, ACE, and CSCS certified, you can tell me the way I train is incorrect.

the best
I had no idea how string he was, 150lbs dumbbell press, damn
@mattgchev gsp is moving up to Silva
A kangaroo would envy GSP's jumping explosiveness.
do you know how heavy the medicine ball is for the slams and press??
do you know how difficult it is for someone who weighs around 175 to dumbbell press 110? this guy is badass!
He doesn’t weigh 175, he weighs 190 around 10 percent bodyfat. If you weigh 190 at 10 percent bf and lift weights regularly you should be able to press 110 dB bench for 3. Of course weighing 190 at 10 percent bf at 5’10 with gsp’s fight skills is incredibly badass.

lol at the yell at 304
Pec size does not necessarily indicate upper body strength.
GSP has got hops!
@xRelentlessx1 I like the way you think bro. anderson would i think aldo might be a little 2 small
this might be a random question but what is the name of the rope pull machine you use?
beastt
that shit cray
@TKfanx94 power conditioning. you seem to have alot of strength, endurance and obviously cardio, but anything with transfering weight from one distance to another is power. for example, i bencpress 300 pounds slowly, but you benchpress 200 but super fast, thats called power.

@dragonman2006 go to Mirvestsdotcom or weightvestsdotcom and you can find ones like this.
@tmacowns he's probably 190-95 before he cuts down
so that's where gsp's massive back came from. those workouts hurt my back just watching.
Denis kang is a fuckin tank
@13seven13 I doubt he will, he had a hard time against kampmann, GSP is a smarter fighter with a great team. Shields might have the edge on the ground, but a hair at most. GSP is much more rounded, It might be an exciting fight but he's got a long way to go before taking the belt.

190 circa 10 percent bodyfat at 5’10 for a non bodybuilder is a great physique...
@CopyNinja87 john fitch is a smart dude i think he could at least give gsp some difficulty
damn he is a f*cking animal.
They are 110 each.
who you think would win if ever "the crow" fought gsp!!
Good guy Georges "burden too heavy dumbbells, not the strip, as stupid and puts in place"
This is walter really. Yes, that is my real name. And I ...will beat GSP in 3 years time. I am a legend in the making. You’ve had 10 years to make the ufc Walter, what happened?
idk why you guys are talking bout the dumbell press. The jumps were way more impressive.
@CopyNinja87 to me its not really boring like alot of people like to think, but if you've ever grappled or anything like that you'll understand the technique that goes into the ground game. either way standing or on the ground gsp will dominate, theres isnt any fighters in the ufc welterweight division that can beat gsp at the moment, and yes that would be a good fight if gsp fought silva, but just wait silva will have his first tko or ko loss to vitor belfort. first or second round tko or ko

holy fuk!
2:55 i believe he can fly
thats toight!
@CopyNinja87 true, but he would get smashed on the stand up if he doesnt change his striking style. hes too stiff and slow when throws his punches and gsp is too quick and powerful for him. i say he might not even win his ufc debut, but who knows?
Blackberry at 2:43
anyone notice how little they sweat? haha amazing!
acutally...110s for someone who walks around 190ish isnt that crazy...but by the way he's built and how easy it looked yeah he's pretty strong no doubt thats why hes champ
Yeah it’s not crazy but expected at a lean 190 who lifts but certainly demonstrates that he’s stronger than most non strength athletes his weight.
@rtc7788 what? Alves? GSP made Alves his bitch at UFC 100 and he tore his groin in the 3rd round!
8 people are BJ Penn fans
omg 2:42
2:06 god damn he is weigh in 170 lbs this in his hands are together 200 lbs
He doesn’t weigh 170, he weighs about 190. Ufc fighters cut on average 20 pounds in water weight before the fight and gain it back before they get in the cage.
how do you know it's 90 lbs?
haha i don't think it said how heavy it was xD
It is 110 lbs in the video. Per dumbbell.
Jesus Christ these guy do a ton of lats
What about the 17 year olds, and the 22 year olds with the Affliction gear? lol
complex training?
totally new since the 70's.
probs around 15 lbs
Ok 110, I beleive u. This isn't a bench press BTW. This is a dumb bell press. I can bench press 225lbs for a good 7 reps but can only do that with 70lb dumb bells. Big difference.
@goldmine1995 bering in mind he only does weights 2/3 times a week he aint a body builder
ok kid.
@edwin9020 no one is out wrestleing gsp trush me
there is no was bj is going to win over st. pierre.
dude they're 150lbs each. gsp benches over 350.
GSP would destroy jake shields!
No way Shields would out grapple GSP. GSP is just way too strong and fast for Shields. GSP would take him down and be ontop of Shields. Shields wouldn't beable to reverse it.
There are better WW's than Shields, like Fitch and Alves.
who will beat GSP? LOL
GSP is going to beat the shit out of Jake Shields...wont' be close at all
A 150lb bench is still pretty poor. One shouldn't even have to bench press it get 150lbs carry over from their other push work.
He’s doing 110 pounds each arm db press. Light years away from a 150 pound bench.
BJ Penn can't even bench 150
Yes Alves > Shields. I know GSP made Alves his bitch. But Shield does not = GSP.
Not as effective as WHAT? GSP is a great fighter because he has technique, power AND strength. And his cardio is solid. But what Chaimberg is doing here is working on GSP's strength and power. All the wrestling technique in the world is useless unless you have the speed and power to go with it. And I train with a guy that fought GSP and he said GSP is strong beyond description.
@lakkatony ahh then its not that impressive :P
No doubt GSP is the superior athlete but BJ Penn is the better fighter.
GSP needs to lay off the ROIDS
Again, not necessarily, watch this: Does this guy look like he has the size to dead and squat 704 lbs? Well he's only 165 lbs!!!! His arms are not that big at all and yet he is deading over 4x his bodyweight. Most 200 lb bodybuilders can't dead 704 lbs. Yet their arms are twice as big as this guys.
