Thank you! This is the most comprehensive explanation video I’ve ever seen for the Sign and Sail cards. I already had a pretty good understanding, but my travel partner was a little confused. I think this will help her a lot!
The bank (debit card) card actually can "hold" more. I have experienced this unfortunately. I always tell my clients to use a credit card if they absolutely have to use a charging card.
Thanks for a comprehensive explanation. I am going on the Legend soon, Caribbean, with stops at Grand Cayman, Mahogany Bay, Belize and Cozumel. What do you recommend for taxis, bars etc. credit card, cash, some other alternative? I have heard that some places are fussy about the currency they get; Belize, they give change in their own currency, others, do not accept large bills or damaged bills. I would prefer just to take a card if possible. What do you recommend?
I haven’t spent money in Belize, but in most ports I carry cash. We did exchange into local currency in Cuba but everywhere else we just used US dollars. I would use a credit card over a debit if you are going to carry a card in case it gets compromised. - Tony
We always prepay. It works for us. I like the fact that when our cruise is paid for, so are the gratuities. Then, we always take cash and tip for room service, our room steward , dining staff, things like that.
What is the difference between Sign and Sail card and Carnival Cruise Cash? Can I use Cruise Cash to turn around and fund my sign and sail account? I am REALLY trying to avoid my debit or credit card taking an immediate $100 hit.
So 5 day cruise ... $100 mandatory hold plus let’s say i add another $150 to the sail & sign, that’s $250 on the card . If i don’t have prepaid gratuities and at the end of the cruise i only have $100 they will use those $100 for the mandatory gratuities ?
If I use cash it’s recommended not required for the account to do $200 we have me my husband and our under 2 year old girl. Could we just put 300 on it
I want to tie my banking account to my 'sail and sign' card, as well as a 'sail and sign' card for an adult person I'm with on the cruise. However, I want a limit on how much this person can charge per day to the sail and sign card. Can I do this?
Yes. So you set up the main account and the make the second person an authorized charger. As the main person you can see limits on others you have authorized. Work with customer service to make sure it it’s all setup right. - Tony
I think it is just $100 for each sail and sign account. So if you are family of 4 staying in the same cabin and you only open 1 sail and sign and assign everyone in the cabin to it, then they just hold $100. Thanks for wathcing. - Tony
So I won money at the bingo and left with much money left in the account how long do I have to wait for them to refund that to my debit card it was linked too
Hi, I'll be going on carnival horizon in July it will be my first cruise. I'm a little confused on how the cash card works. Do you suggest I get it or adding my credit card would be enough? I'll be traveling for 8 days. Thank you for the help.
I'm not sure that you can fund your sign and sail account with a debit card. I did an online check-in for my son yesterday and he was going to use his debit card., Kept getting an error message that the card could not be verified. When I put in his regular credit card it accepted it without any problem.
Hi, I've got a question about the gratuities. If the room booking is under my name and I use a credit card, but two other people in my room choose cash, will all the gratuities at the end be charged to my credit card? I am hoping that this is the case.
+Maxx Nathaniel Smith on the Carnival site it says that gratuities are added to each Sail and Sign account. So if the other folks in your cabin have their own Sail and Sign setup their gratuities should hit their account not yours. Each person has to have a Sail and Sign account so if you don't authorize them to use yours they will have to set their own up to fund, which is what it sounds like you would want. Have fun on your cruise! - Tony
Low energy Tony looks sad LOL! We have been trying to figure out what the alphanumeric stuff below the sail date is in the top right. Came up on our last cruise and conspiracy theories abounded!
If someone booked my cruise and my gratuity are paid and I'm not spending and money on the cruise will I still have to have money for sail and sign in even though I don't have a credit card?
They will expect some form of money to back your sail and sign card. It’s part of the check in process. I’d call customer service to make sure you know what your options are. - Tony
La Lido Loca Just come off my first cruise and I didn't have to have a credit card or cash to put on card because I didn't use anything I had to pay for.
Wow!!! 11 min and 51 sec to talk about a room key. No, i havnt even watched this video, but it makes me wonder what can they possibly talk about for almost 12 min about a plastic card? So yeah, im gonna watch the video, i hope those two dont make me waist 12 min of my time.
6 years later & still the best explanation I've seen.
Thank you! This is the most comprehensive explanation video I’ve ever seen for the Sign and Sail cards. I already had a pretty good understanding, but my travel partner was a little confused. I think this will help her a lot!

Thank you so much for the information. Going on my first cruise this summer
I have a suggestion for the Cruise cash video that shows how you are able to purchase it before the cruise! I would love if you went over that
Last January on the Dream, you could make deposits at the kiosks too...WHEN they worked.
Thank you! We are cruising for the first time next year and that was incredibly helpful!!!
Glad it was helpful! - Tony
You can also check your balance on your stateroom t.v. at least on the Vista. Not sure about other ships.
Good tip 🛳jenny
You may also fund the card with cruise cash online Carnival.
If I fund my sign and sail card with Cruise Cash will I be able to purchase excursions and specialty dining options with it while on board?
Really good explanation of the card and setup
S Bla awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Glad the info was helpful.

Would you recommend prepay for gratuity? Is it better to wait till the end.
1sttimemom76 I like to prepay so I don't have to worry about at then end. Nice for us to have it out of the way. - Tony
We always prepay. It works for us. I like the fact that when our cruise is paid for, so are the gratuities. Then, we always take cash and tip for room service, our room steward , dining staff, things like that.

The sail and sign is what they give you to use on the ship. You can fund it with cash and gift certificates when you check in. - Tony
yes you can use cruise cash to fund your card

I didn’t know about the hold on the credit and debit cards like a hotel does.
Do you have to pay this on the ship if you use your debit card or will it just deduct it from your bank at the end of your trip
What if I loaded my money on a prepaid debit card?. And it can also be use as a credit card. Will I be able to use it?
Will there be a hold on debit card for each authorized users (3 minors) or just 1 hold for the account holder?
I have 2 digital gift cards. Can I use that to use for the sail n sign?
Thank you Tony for this video!!
Thanks so much. This is really helpful :)
Soleil awesome! Glad it’s helpful! - T

Great info!!!! Thanks!!!
How much do they take out for gratuity ?
Do you add $100 per person in your group or $100 total?
I think it is just $100 for each sail and sign account. So if you are family of 4 staying in the same cabin and you only open 1 sail and sign and assign everyone in the cabin to it, then they just hold $100. Thanks for wathcing. - Tony

What do you use at the casino. The sale and sign or can I use cash?
We usually use cash, but you can use the sail and sign if need be. - Tony
@@LaLidoLoca ty for the quick reply safe travels. Just got done watching the live!
Awesome and thanks! - Tony
online on their website it says 2-6 days is $100, is this correct?
Yes the website is the most current info. - Tony
@@LaLidoLoca thanks! last question. would that then be $100 per each person, or for each room?
If you setup separate accounts per room it would be per person. If there is just one account per room them it’s going to be per room.
thank you very informative
do they supply a lanyard
No, you need to pick one up at Walmart cheap. You can go to casino when getting on ship to look around sometimes they are giving them out free.
Carnival ports usually have them for sale in shop and there is also vendors selling them outside usually
Low energy Tony looks sad LOL! We have been trying to figure out what the alphanumeric stuff below the sail date is in the top right. Came up on our last cruise and conspiracy theories abounded!
