@@ValiantTanmay Okay first things first, sure loved ones die everyone has experience in that but do they have to see their loved ones die again and again in absolutely horrific ways, and the only way to say them is to die as well. Add the fact that unlike any of us he can't tell anyone what happened with making the situation worse and since you watched season 2, he says it in no uncertain terms that he was gonna die as much time as he needed to save everyone and then you have his parents. Honestly, the only reason you don't see him mention his parents then his because he's trying his hardest not to think about them because he understood from the moment he got there that he'd likely never come back and add the fact that this was a new place, he could be whoever he wanted, he could even be the hero and not just Kenichi's son and since you don't understand what that episode was trying to tell the viewer of Subaru, he suffered from golden child syndrome, I don't wanna make this comment any longer, and lastly, he doesn't mention them again? You didn't finish season 2 because he does but you seem to have already made up your mind so I'll just say this if you don't like a character just say that but if you do what make sure the show itself doesn't prove all your points wrong otherwise you'll look like an idiot

After he duels for “Emilia’s honor”, when he is having a meltdown, people say it’s his entitled nature, that he believes himself the Hero and nothing he can do can be wrong. I differ; his despair, his incredibility to being called selfish, all to me sounds more like “so what if now I am being selfish? I have died for you, for Rem, for Ram, for everyone. I was scared every time, I didn’t want to, but in the end I kept trying. And you don’t even know. So what if now I am being selfish; don’t I deserve it a little?”. You may call it entitlement, but it also is a coping mechanism: he cannot receive praise or thank for the full extent of his actions, but he can pretend.
Is a bit of everything after all Subaru is an incredibly complex character, but he is hero-complex is something really serious that is employed as a meta commentary to the otaku culture. Subaru wanted to believe that he is someone special in a attempt to scape from his “failure” of him “disappointing his parents” and doing nothing for himself, he sees anime and video games as his scapegoat from his reality and when he got isekaid the first thing the anime let you clear that Subaru thinkshe is a hero, that he thinks he is someone special, he just see emilia as the heroine of his tales and use her for his own delusions, and form an idealistic view on her. S1 is all about Subaru accepting his own self, recognizing his sloth and arrogance and start over again from zero, well he accepted the version that rem accepted from him and decided to strive to become someone better.
Isnt that literally the m.o. of the 'nice' guy. I did all these things for you so i 'deserve' your affection even though you told me multiple times you dont want it. And then the one who recipricates it i dont want.
@@jebes909090 is more than that, the problem is not emilia not wanting, is Subaru not respecting, Subaru in season 1 sees emilia as nothing beyond to the heroine of the videogame/ anime He got summoned in. He doesn’t do anything for her, all the things he does for emilia is really for his own sake, emilia gets to see through his ego and call him out after he broke 3 times his promise( emilia is an spiritualist and due to her past promises are something absolute, not respecting her ideology and belittling them absolute hurt her). Rem did everything to help Subaru to become the hero he is for her, not her love interest, she weaponize her love in a attempt to raise the esteem of subaru
After the Mabeast attack and Subaru was recognized as the hero who saved the village he went on an ego trip and that's the major reason he acted like that in the capital.
@@donadiem9047 i disagree Emilia causes all the bad shit to subaru. drawing parallels to real life bitches. basically "i can do whatever i want to him because he/she is mine, and they will always come back to me". but subaru helps cuz she was nice to him and at the end of the day he deemed his mental well being as less then her life
One of the scenes that genuinely hit me was when otto came to save subaru from the prison and says he wanted to help him cuz they're friends. And Subaru responds with genuine confusion because at that point he couldn't understand the fact that anybody valued his life because he didnt value it himself. And then he laughs uncontrollably because he realizes the irony.
@@idk-ye7ur yeah watching the anime is making it a bit hard to understand these things, reading the Novels just gives a more indepth explanation. Another thing i failed to see in the anime except for Episode 11 of Season 2 is that Subaru was driven to insanity. In the Novels it is explained on how he became hollow inside throwing away the loops with the excuse that they are just for information in order to reach the perfect loop in the end and no one will have to suffer except him, he completely had abandoned all value that life has which gave him dead eyes. Episode 11 made it clear since when the rabbits attacked the second time he wasn't scared he just wanted to see Emilia in that loop and just walked through them ignoring the pain and death. But, when the second trial happened and he saw what happened after every death and the possibility that worlds continue after his death shattered his mentality and Subaru realised that he was making people suffer by dying, he had completely broken until, Satella saved him, which is why he is now so determined to save everyone without dying and is valuing his own life.
@@manofgreed7865 The anime implies a lot. You can figure out thru multiple watches and context clues. Reading is slower and you retain more information because its all words. Anime is different because its reading, watching, listening to voices and music and sounds, etc
@@chelronin7843 The thing is, how many people that watch Re:Zero would sit through and watch it 3 or more times? I know what the anime gives you but it can't explain or show things the way they can be described with Words, it's up to the viewer to try and figure it out themselves. The thing is, how many people can figure it out? There was already a person in the comment that wasn't able to understand the Otto and Subadu scene since it wasn't THAT clear in the anime.
@@manofgreed7865 S2 is just long running commercials for novels at this point, and it does what it should - making people buy and read the source. The plot keeps it interesting, but the visuals suck a big one and the OST became generic, like they've given up on making it plesant to watch. Real pity, ReZero deserved better than this. If I recommend it to anyone, it would be the novels, not the anime. I woun't say that about the S1 tho. And no, doing it from home is not an excuse. There are tons of shows this year soaking with sakuga.
What’s funny is that Subaru is actually quite fit since he used to exercise everyday but everyone in this world is so overpowered and strong and they have magic too so Subaru just seems weak if you guys remember he was able to beat 3 robbers at once in an ally way
But when you compare him to Elsa, who is broken, Emilia, who is BROKEN, puck, who is god, Reinhard, who is the god of the anime, roswaal, let’s not even speak, rem, let’s just not, ram, why even exist Betty, why even. literally the way for Subaru to win just about anything in this anime world is to know what’s gonna happen in the future but because of the horrible pain he feels from dying he can’t think straight whenever he comes back from return by death which is why some people think he wastes his skill majorly but what this same people don’t understand is the pain of dying specially the ways he has died imagine your guts spilling all over the floor like 3 times in a row, die by frost bite like 3 times, and do you even know what it takes to commit suicide? Commuting or even attempting suicide its a massive toll on your brain and body

One thing I love about Subaru's backstory is that the author was able to show it at a very far point in the story. Personally, I feel like that's a very hard thing to accomplish. Instead of mentioning it in the very early points of the series, he went the risky way and instead showed it this arc. That alone is something so hard to execute and he did it very well.
Legit; his editor recommended that to him actually. We can thank his amazing editor for being a good editor for once, on top of Tappei being a great writer.
Bruh, when he got in grabbed Roswaal’s collar and got in his face, I fucking cheered. Roswaal deserves to lose. Subaru is getting bolder, while at the same time learning to value his life. He’s matured so much. So has Emilia. Roswaal’s face when Emilia told him that Subaru said she was useless was priceless. He couldn’t fathom why Subaru would say such a thing to the woman he loves.
Ehhh... he was a basement-dwelling loser from the start who took AN ENTIRE SEASON to realize he wasn't just in a game anymore. He never had any humanity to begin with. He just completed his transformation to an average politician. ;D
Nux is on point with this one. Loneliness is something you feel most when you are surrounded by people but don't feel like you can confide in any of them. Like screaming as loud as you can only for no one to hear. Definitely one of if not the heaviest burden Subaru carries.
@@GreatestLeaf yeah it's impossible for him to pass, because if he acknologes that any of his timelines continues after he dies his entire mind would break
I speed ran the first season in a single night and it felt so unreal watching Subaru go through such visceral emotions while in such a beautiful world. It gave me a bit of a wanderlust feeling that made me envy his interactions. His interactions with everyone are so genuine and passionate they could sum up all of the expressed emotion I've experienced in my entire life. It's honestly heartbreaking how much so many of us really don't have such a romanced life. Humans tend not to show even a morsel of how they feel or how they wish to feel. This anime hit me at a low point in my life... and that's a really cliche stance, but also a genuinely common one. Re: Zero changed my perspective on personal identity, interaction, love, and personal experiences. The truth is, no one I've met in my entire life is as genuine as the characters in Re: Zero. Pain defines who we are, loss defines who we are, solitude amongst the both defines who we are. I would rather suffer and die repeatedly than live a boring life, and I think that that is Re: Zero's greatest expression. It is a story of pain and definition through pain, and the value of TRUE friends.

I didn't realize how much it hit me when I vocalized how Lonely I felt. when the words "I'm just so lonely" out of my mouth, I cried. And I love How Nux described Loneliness. I understand that.
I had an experience that was exactly like this! I was watching season 1 and the unhealthy way that Rem thought about herself and didn’t value herself hit WAY too close to home for me. It convinced me to start seeking help.
Edison was a manipulative bastard, but Tesla was an insane racist with an Aedopal complex. Both were brilliant in their own right. Both demonstrated how people have both good and bad in them. Tesla was also a horrible businessman, who got bankrupted by one of the companies bankrolling him. Subaru's take at the First Trial hit home so hard. It was difficult to watch because of how much it hurt, but it is still one of my favorite episodes in all of anime because of how well it was done.
Nah he's not useless, most of the scenario of the entire series revolve around him and he controls the flow of the events from his side by re doing things over and over again. Besides, this is just one of the storylines. There are a lot of other what-if scenarios you can look up and read.
@@coffeekun1134 I agree. Also underrated moments of Subaru is the fact he hadn't got suicdal thoughts or any kind of change of heart. The fact that he smiles through everytime and still finds ways to be himself (even though his voice lines do be weird sometimes) is something to admire. My favourite themes of recent Re:Zero episodes is acceptance. Subaru accepting that he's not a tool and he needs to love himself and has to believe in and rely on his friends. Garfiel and Emilia accepting and coming to terms with their pasts. And I absolutely can't wait for Beatrice, even Roswall to accept their feelings. Also I freaking love this anime :')

For the few people like myself who dont have that option, I can tell you that I would be in a much better mental state if I had even one person who I could talk to or relate to. You can never really know how bad it is to be in this situation until you're already there. Dont get there and talk to someone.

22:55 “Otto’s not a genius super planner” Are you sure about that? He’s probably the smartest character in Re:Zero outside of the witches , at least in the Emilia camp Hell later in the web novel Subaru says “if you asked everyone in the Emilia camp, “who among us would be the most dangerous as an enemy?” Every single one of us would say Otto” Otto isn’t special outside his blessing and he has beyond terrible luck, but that is countered by his incredible intelligence I’m gonna go into the web novel spoilers to prove my point , this part was drastically different in season 2 so okay *spoilers* In the Otto vs Garfiel fight in the web novel , Otto goes big brain 100% maximum So to set the scene Garfiel is running around the sanctuary trying to find Subaru, Otto was told to distract Garfiel buying Subaru time and to evacuate the villagers , here’s how he did it Garfiel smells a large group of people evacuating, finds Otto leading 3 carriages , he stops him, and interrogates him and Otto straight up confesses that he’s lead the villagers into other routes and that Garfiel couldn’t catch them in time now, after Otto makes an ominous comment about Subaru , Garfiel resolves to hunt him down , only for Otto to refuse to let Garfiel go, Garfiel punches Otto knocking him out and decides to go hunt Subaru , however Otto was expecting Garfiel to attack him and was able to endure, Garfiel attempts to attack him again with more force but Otto throws some leafs and then a fire crystal(basically a fire bomb) at Garfiel , the crystal is low grade and causes nothing more than a sunburn, but Garfiel is worried that if that had been a higher grade crystal it could have killed him (its worth noting Otto did have higher grade crystals on him) Otto ran the second he threw the crystal and is now out of sight, Garfiel attempts to sniff him out only to recoil in pain, he looks down to see a broken bottle where Otto stood , whatever it was reeks so much it has disabled garfiels sense of smell - Otto has disabled Garfiels sense of tracking and caused him to forget about Subaru by focusing his attention on him Garfiel was tempted to pursue but realised it might be wiser to check the carts , he did and found piles of human clothes , this is how he thought he smelt dozens of people when it was just Otto, h]before he leaves he searches more thoroughly, and finds a note only visible from inside the carriage it reads “If you are so completely in the palm of my hands, then making this was worth it” Upon reading it swarms of insects burst from the seats , Garfiel screams in terror and the cart is destroyed by a panicked Garfiel seconds later - Otto has now pissed off Garfiel Due to Otto the animals of the forest have caused many traps for Garfiel , like animal tracks misleading him , birds leading him into poison ivy , Garfiel has fell for every trap Otto set and is now 20ms away , Otto launches the signal and mice and squirrels throw dung at Garfiel , Garfiel is annoyed but unharmed, however the ground breaks beneath him and centipede sprint up garfiel’s body and devour the dung all over him (Otto made use of a certain dung that attracted these beasts) Garfiel shrieks in terror and causes devastation as he throws the centipedes off him Otto runs but Garfiel catches up to him , Otto had to audibly launch the attack giving his position away, Garfiel starting to wise up judges Otto’s traps aren’t finished yet and looks around and sees a glowing orb , wanting to see Otto’s fight to the end he threw Otto into his own trap , only for nothing to happen, Garfiel doesn’t know what is going wrong but he knows he somehow just made a fatal mistake and goes to leap away “Too slow” Y’see this wasn’t a trap, it was a weapon, a pool of mana so large it was visible to the naked eye , all donated by the forest to avenge garfiels destruction of it, using it Otto casts the highest grade of earth magic and sends Garfiel flying hundreds of metres away in a gargantuan landslide Unfortunately Otto’s luck went against him again, Garfiel has the Divine Protection of the Earthsoul , one of the effects of this is basically damage reduction against earth magic , meaning his trump card had type disadvantage Garfiel comes back covered in damage but all realistically superficial Only for Ram to attack , the deal Otto made as his final trump card I could go on but I think I’ve made my point that Otto is a true mastermind If you’re wondering why I went this far to correct a tiny statement , it’s simple , thus scene got butchered in the anime, it’s my favourite scene in Re:Zero and I really wanted to talk about it
man, Angel Beats was a great anime, but the ending definitely missed the mark for me. When I rewatch it I always make sure to just leave out the last 5-ish minutes of the show
The ending of Angel Beats was honestly not that good, overhyped in my opinion. There was a massive plot hole that kinda ruined a lot and then the ending "tragedy" came out of nowhere with almost no build up.
Not only was this very entertaining, but hearing Nux saying that he was a Re: Tard at the end truly shows how masterfully he crafted the entire video to deliver this joke at the end. 11/10 would recommend to a friend
Finally, I understand where is the appeal of Re:zero, personally I watched just the first season and hated it so much up to a point that I forced myself to finished it. But actually, the way how Nux explained it made me understand it more, and I was surprised that I glossed over the obvious theme of loneliness, I think it was because I was blinded with rage towards Subaru, now I think I'll give this anime a second chance, thanks Nux.

This season is really just too strong that even with Re:Zero actually peaking like it’s the best it’s ever been there’s just soo many great shows out and yes ofc AoT just dominating because well it’s AoT it’s ridiculous how Re:Zero is barely getting any shine when in any other season it would have the most hype lol
@Kream .N Wait for what exactly? The anime is covering Arc 4 with Season 2, but they are adapting the Light Novel version which is believed by many, including me to be worse than Arc 4 of the Web Novel version. Season 2 is good, but there is an even better version of the stuff Season 2 covers.
@Kream .N OK, I don't know if you know but I'm gonna explain it. Re:Zero started as a Web Novel free series, then later on it became an Official Light Novel series, but when it became a Light Novel they changed a lot of how the story plays out. Re:Zero is divided into Arcs to show which part of the story it is covering. Season 1 episode 1-3 covered Arc 1, Season 1 episode 4-11 covered Arc 2 and Season 1 episode 12-25 covered Arc 3. All of Season 2 is covering Arc 4. The thing is, the anime is adapting the Light Novel which has a worse version version of Arc 4. To give you something, Arc 4 in the Web Novel is wayyyyy more brutal, gives you wayyyyy more information and is written in a better way, it also is around 25% Bigger. So what you are watching in the anime at the moment, is a simplified, kinda censored with less information version of the story, that’s why it is not as good as it can be and a lot of Web Novel readers are disappointed with Season 2.
@Kream .N Well, yeah I recommend people to just wait and watch the anime but later on after Season 2 finishes I recommend them read the Web Novel of Arc 4 so that they can read the Original Story of Season 2.

Oh wow, i didn't get that, damn, i wish they would build up or make those things more clear. xd

Watching this show is always super depressing for me since I can relate to his struggle of suffering in silence. To anyone who reads this comment, find someone to talk to. It doesnt matter who. Just being able to openly express your thoughts and feelings is something that not everyone can do. For the few people like myself who dont have that option, I can tell you that I would be in a much better mental state if I had even one person who I could talk to or relate to. The novels are some of the top selling light novels for the past couple of years. The merchandise sales are quite high too. MAL users are a small subsection of anime watchers, same with reddit at that. Though JJK brought it to 3rd a couple of times and Jobless Reincarnation brought it to 4th once.
It's very very popular, and is even highly rated among less anime-focused content creators. Charlie AKA Penguinz0 rated Re:Zero a 95/100 on the Moist Meter for example. There's only a handful of 95/100's, and they're all massive hits, like Joker, Spiderman into the Spiderverse, John Wick chapter 3.

Great video, honestly!
22:55 “Otto’s not a genius super planner”
Are you sure about that? He’s probably the smartest character in Re:Zero outside of the witches , at least in the Emilia camp
Hell later in the web novel Subaru says “if you asked everyone in the Emilia camp, “who among us would be the most dangerous as an enemy?” Every single one of us would say Otto”
Otto isn’t special outside his blessing and he has beyond terrible luck, but that is countered by his incredible intelligence
I’m gonna go into the web novel spoilers to prove my point , this part was drastically different in season 2 so okay *spoilers*
In the Otto vs Garfiel fight in the web novel , Otto goes big brain 100% maximum
So to set the scene Garfiel is running around the sanctuary trying to find Subaru, Otto was told to distract Garfiel buying Subaru time and to evacuate the villagers , here’s how he did it
Garfiel smells a large group of people evacuating, finds Otto leading 3 carriages , he stops him, and interrogates him and Otto straight up confesses that he’s lead the villagers into other routes and that Garfiel couldn’t catch them in time now, after Otto makes an ominous comment about Subaru , Garfiel resolves to hunt him down , only for Otto to refuse to let Garfiel go, Garfiel punches Otto knocking him out and decides to go hunt Subaru , however Otto was expecting Garfiel to attack him and was able to endure, Garfiel attempts to attack him again with more force but Otto throws some leafs and then a fire crystal(basically a fire bomb) at Garfiel , the crystal is low grade and causes nothing more than a sunburn, but Garfiel is worried that if that had been a higher grade crystal it could have killed him (its worth noting Otto did have higher grade crystals on him) Otto ran the second he threw the crystal and is now out of sight, Garfiel attempts to sniff him out only to recoil in pain, he looks down to see a broken bottle where Otto stood , whatever it was reeks so much it has disabled garfiels sense of smell - Otto has disabled Garfiels sense of tracking and caused him to forget about Subaru by focusing his attention on him
Garfiel was tempted to pursue but realised it might be wiser to check the carts , he did and found piles of human clothes , this is how he thought he smelt dozens of people when it was just Otto, h]before he leaves he searches more thoroughly, and finds a note only visible from inside the carriage it reads
“If you are so completely in the palm of my hands, then making this was worth it”
Upon reading it swarms of insects burst from the seats , Garfiel screams in terror and the cart is destroyed by a panicked Garfiel seconds later - Otto has now pissed off Garfiel
Due to Otto the animals of the forest have caused many traps for Garfiel , like animal tracks misleading him , birds leading him into poison ivy , Garfiel has fell for every trap Otto set and is now 20ms away , Otto launches the signal and mice and squirrels throw dung at Garfiel , Garfiel is annoyed but unharmed, however the ground breaks beneath him and centipede sprint up garfiel’s body and devour the dung all over him (Otto made use of a certain dung that attracted these beasts) Garfiel shrieks in terror and causes devastation as he throws the centipedes off him
Otto runs but Garfiel catches up to him , Otto had to audibly launch the attack giving his position away, Garfiel starting to wise up judges Otto’s traps aren’t finished yet and looks around and sees a glowing orb , wanting to see Otto’s fight to the end he threw Otto into his own trap , only for nothing to happen, Garfiel doesn’t know what is going wrong but he knows he somehow just made a fatal mistake and goes to leap away
“Too slow”
Y’see this wasn’t a trap, it was a weapon, a pool of mana so large it was visible to the naked eye , all donated by the forest to avenge garfiels destruction of it, using it Otto casts the highest grade of earth magic and sends Garfiel flying hundreds of metres away in a gargantuan landslide
Unfortunately Otto’s luck went against him again, Garfiel has the Divine Protection of the Earthsoul , one of the effects of this is basically damage reduction against earth magic , meaning his trump card had type disadvantage
Garfiel comes back covered in damage but all realistically superficial
Only for Ram to attack , the deal Otto made as his final trump card
I could go on but I think I’ve made my point that Otto is a true mastermind
If you’re wondering why I went this far to correct a tiny statement , it’s simple , thus scene got butchered in the anime, it’s my favourite scene in Re:Zero and I really wanted to talk about it

Not only was this very entertaining, but hearing Nux saying that he was a Re: Tard at the end truly shows how masterfully he crafted the entire video to deliver this joke at the end. 11/10 would recommend to a friend

Ehhh this season is decent. If you want to get the actual MASTERPIECE of Arc 4, then I recommend reading the Web Novel of Arc 4
@@manofgreed7865 if arc 4 gets animated, hopefully it's not the same time as jjk shibuya arc or either MHA war arc, or else it's gonna have so much competition and jjk shibuya arc is rlly good

Re/Zero is one of my favourite anime exactly for the reasons you stated. I can really empathise and relate with Subaru’s experience of not being able to tell anyone what’s going on. Even though I have amazing family and support there are some things I just can’t tell anyone. The scene where subaru finally talks about return by death with echidna was so powerful, that when nux started talking about it, I still teared up.

@@wyattsperry4584 I see your point but I would qualify a hidden world as an isekai. Definitely HP less so than the others though, I could see that interpretation. I guess the way I look at it is the other world is from the perspective of the MC, which I think applies to Harry's life and the separation of his mundane life and magical life.
@@TheChrisSig I understand your rebuttal, but would like to point out that the "magical world" had an ever-present impact on his life since the beginning. He used accidental magic and was treated as a freak because of it his whole life before the events of the first book.
