Davenport was playing her best tennis in 2004 and 2005; it’s a shame she wasn’t able to win another slam.
She had match point against Venus in 2005 Wimbledon final in the third set, but let Venus off the hook.
Tho Linds lost, that's prob their best match in their head to head ever.

Ya it was really windy and Maria played terrible. Even Davenport has said this match was the biggest fluke of her career. This was the only time she beat Sharapova.

When Sharapova came out playing bad, she was truly awful. Remember in the 2012 Olympics, Serena spanked her ass 6-0, 6-1 in another humbling, blistering display. Sharapova was a fairly dominant player at times, but when she was "off", she was TOTALLY off.
I loved it when Davenport was in her no-nonsense mood! She used to thrash players with hard-hitting, great serving and hardly any mistakes. She was deadly on an American hard court in particular and the only players that had her number were Venus and Serena as they could run down her balls. Definitely one of the top five ball strikers of all time. Maria was taught a lesson here I'm sure on how to win at hard-hitting and she duly did improve in later years.

Serena after beating sabalenka in the australian open said she never played a harder striker than davenport. Thats saying a lot for how powerful Venus was in her prime.
People keep saying that Sharapova was this and that in this match but she was simply outhitted(if this word exist) . Lindsay use the wind very well at her advantage (ironically they have the same game) playing with the lines,heavy balls ,keeping the ball deep. There was nothing Sharapova could do in this match and Lindsay was on.

Davenport plants herself, winds up, and puts all her weight and power into such a smooth and well-met ground stroke. Her timing is impeccable . Not to mention she is so *consistent* with her game. She would rarely hit the ball out compared to other players.
They had the same coach lol. Sharapova went to Davenports coach when she was young so she could learn to strike the ball big and clean also because they knew Maria wouldn’t be a good mover much like Lindsay. Sharapova was an extremely good ball striker but no one will ever hit the ball as clean as Davenport.
Really?! I knew they both trained in Florida. To add to what you are saying, the current WTA player Madison Keys is being coached by Lindsay. Isn’t it cool to see how much of an impact Madison has with her groundstrokes? I love how they can have so much power with a long swing, that shows perfect timing. And you must accelerate the racquet head at the precise moment. I wonder what grip Davenport uses. Do you know??

@@yussepig6629 perhaps but they didn’t peak at the same time. 2005 would be the only year they were both at their best and at the end of the day I do think Davenport was capable of a higher level on hard court.

Some of these points Sharapova is already standing midcourt after she hits a deep groundstroke.
Did it ever occur to her to move up to the net and hit some volleys ?
I know that's not her game to move up to the net, but she was getting clobbered in baseline rallies with Davenport, and she wasn't having much luck trading groundstrokes.
Not that it would've made a difference in the result, but at least not lose so one sided.
A devastating performance by Lindsay.

I was huge fan of Sharapova when she was playing, but I believe she wants to forget this match. What a joke.
This is my kink: watching Banshee players like Sharapova get dragged in the court like a rag doll by players like Serena Venus and Lindsay. Whenever i am sad, i just go to youtube and watch highlights of how sharapova gets beaten badly by davenport or serena at 2012 olympics.
Sharapova has a winning record over Venus and Davenport. So making it sound like they constantly beat her is manipulative. Serena has a huge H2H lead over most players its just that due to Maria being a top player for a long time met often. Maria also didn’t believe she could beat Serena post 2007.
