Get that number on the front side of the boat that is now past me. Remember it as I’m paddling for my life. Don’t worry about helping the special needs person and the blind rowers. Any boat causing damage with their wake is legally responsible for damages. even if there is no "no-wake" zone. Courts have decided on this in 2015. Essentially, every boat is legally required to avoid collision at all cost (USCG Rules, Inland Waterways Rules, and Collision Regulations). The maritime courts determined that a wake is, in fact, an extension of a boat. So, collision with a boat's wake = collision with a boat. You WILL win if you sue the boat owners.

    As a sailboater, I often have motorboaters harrass me on the water. They buzz by me at danger-close distance at high speed. I usually just turn into the wake so I hit it dead on and the boat will hardly feel it. BUT my little 26 foot keel boat can seemingly turn on a dime, I would imagine that dragon boats don't. If a wake hits them broadside, everyone on board is going for a swim.

Then when a speed boat came barrelling through, he would make a legal turn and let the speed boat hit him. Crunch! "Oh sorry, steam gives way to sail!" Another case was of a guy that was fed up with aggressive taxi drivers, so he had a beach buggy made, based on an armoured car. Typical big, open wheel fenders, but made out of 1/8 inch steel plate.

  • @kirkjohnson6638
    @kirkjohnson6638 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The wake boats should probably be fined, but the authorities should also be looking at whether or not the no wake zones are reasonable. No wake zones are intended to keep people from making huge waves near docks where they could swamp boats or cause them damage while tied up and unattended. No wake zones are not intended to protect others who are out kayaking, canoeing, rowing crew, or dragon boating. And, if capsizing in a dragon boat causes terror for the paddlers, then those people do not belong on the water.

    Dragon boats are little different from sculls. Narrow, easy to capsize, and full of people. Just like a scull, these people are out practicing for a sport they enjoy and should be able to do so without threat of other boats. I see many are making fun of them and not being able to handle a bit of waves. What happens when one of those wake boats gets too close or out of control and it runs over a dragon boat? People will be injured. Having lived my entire live on or near the water, I have seen what a propeller can do to a limb. I knew people who have been killed when their boat was run over by another.

Wake surfing boats have bladders that fill up with water to make a bigger wake, and little fins that stick out the side of the boat to shape the wake. Basic things taught to children at camps, kayaking classes, water safety classes. Doesn’t excuse what the lawbreakers are doing but is common sense and boats can capsize for other reasons and people can fall in the water for other reasons. If you can’t take care of yourself in an environment during an emergency, don’t go there, don’t put yourself in that situation.
