That last pass you mentioned is no joke! I had my rear brake on my DRZ go out on the decent down it. Super sketchy, had to lay bike over a few times to prevent going over a Cliff. My father took us down that trail without realizing how hard it was. We were the only motorcyclists in a sea of Jeeps. Not for the faint of heart. Would definitely do it again😁

Everide... Dude, you hit it out of the park. This vid on Colorado's Alpine Loop is exactly what i knew you could do when you married the quad-copter to your moto adventures. You made the key Colorado passes easy-to-understand. Heretofore, they had just been a jumble of names and vid clips. I had no idea of where they were or how to plan a trip to visit them. I now see the big picture. I see the towns. I see the main roads. I see the pass routes. I see how and where the passes are. And you give us enough about each one of them that we can make judgements as to whether or not to tackle them. Brilliant. I'm very happy with this video and very happy that you have done such an outstanding job in capturing the essence of some of Colorado's main passes. Congrats. Pat yourself on the back and give yourself a raise.

eveRide ADV You really should! I'm trying to find some folks to make a trip to this area this year.
Most of my riding buddies here in Virginia don't have the 2 things a trip like this require; Time and Money.
Are there online forums that I can access to maybe find like-minded people who would want to plan something like this?
Also, hope you're doing well post surgery.

There is a limit to people's hospitality, plus the knee-jerk reaction to over-crowding and novices getting hurt or killed would probably be to close a lot of these areas off.

Thank you for posting this, brings back a lot of great memories. Each summer of 1997-1999 and 2001, my family and some friends hauled the dual sports up to Ouray and we rode many of these passes and trails.
I was 15 in 1997 and rode a 1978 Honda XL175 over Engineer Pass to Lake City and back through Silverton via Cinnamon. We also tried Black Bear, made it almost to the top, but turned back when my dad's bike started running like crap (float bowl start filling with gas). I am kinda of glad I didnt go over the pass as I would learn a few years later on a KLR650. That descent into Telluride is knarly.
I enjoyed riding a KLR250 over Imogene, Ophir, Million Dollar Highway, Last Dollar Road, and the like. My dad and his buddies did Poughkeepsie Gulch and I opted to hang with my friends and ride in their van over to Silverton to meet everybody for lunch. From how they described it, it was terrifying and I am glad I did not go. I know my limits and that looked like more than I'd like to try.

I lived in Colorado from 95-2000. I was a Harley guy back then. I took a lot of excellent bike trips, but NOTHING like this. I could kick myself in the butt for not getting a dual sport bike as well. I will have to go back and do this someday.
    Excellent VLOG! Thanks Tyler

That entire area is the best riding I've ever done. I first rode there in '83 on my new Suzuki SP500, then each year thereafter until I got a DR350 in '95. Later, I got an '05 DR650 and we continued to ride there each summer. Since then I have a newer DR650 and still ride there most summers, but have since been exploring other parts of Colorado also. But there is nothing like the San Juan mountains for off road riding.. It's great to see that you made such a great video of these passes and other trails, simply beautiful! Last September I discovered yet another fantastic unpaved ride, from Cotopaxi to Salida via 47 miles of unpaved beauty, with several branching trails of higher difficulty. I think you could ride for a lifetime and never see everything!

I was there August 13-19, had my wife and grown kids with me. I decided against doing the higher passes after I gave engineer pass a short go with my stock skid pan and no crash bars on my KLR 650! My son was on a '80 Yamaha XT250 and was able to handle anything, I feel bad now that I wasn't more prepared because I held him back, not wanting him to go it alone. But we did do Animas Forks through Silverton, and Yankee Boy Basin, also a bit of Corkscrew Gulch. I mostly took to the highway with my wife on board. Beautiful scenery from Silverton to Telluride by highway. Took in some of Last Dollar road along the way! My son's first road ride in the rain was Silverton to Ouray, cold rain! Those of you that have been over Red Mountain pass would probably cringe at the thought of doing your 1st ride in the rain there, Haha! I might be posting a vid of that in the future. Advice to anyone going there, buy a rain suit and keep it with you on your bike(or waterproof riding gear). The rain is not usually frequent enough to ruin your trip, in fact it adds to the beauty of the place in my opinion. I had a blast on the KLR, but I would probably take a 2nd lighter bike along next time! Great video and the drone shots are super!

I grew up in Denver, and we would take mountain trips to Telluride, SIlverton, Ouray etc. a couple times per year. I've done a couple of these trails with a 4x4 and coming across this footage makes me feel super nostalgic and want to get back up into the mountains again! This looks like sooo much fun. I might have to take my '84 Magna up there soon just to get some of that scenery ;)

Hey Tyler, just want to encourage you and let you know how inspirational your videos are. I want SO BADLY to do the Alpine Loop, and have for years but I haven't gotten around to it. My close friend recently bought a diesel pickup and a DRZ400 and I showed him this video and now he is trying to force me to take time from my life to go on the Alpine Loop adventure. So, your videos are inspirational, and dare I say, life changing. Thanks for what you do.

Thanks for the inspiration, I just returned from Telluride, we did Opier pass from Tell to Silverton then rode the Million up to Oaray. Black Bear and Imogene where still closed. Did it on a tired DR650, the last 1000 yards to the summit was all the fun I wanted. Keep up the great work, I hope your medical BS is almost over!

I had always wanted to do these passes and I finally had the opportunity this last week. Cameras can never do the beauty justice, or just how steep some of the sections are.
I went out of Telluride, over Imogene, down to Ouray, up a trail that I am certain was not designed for dirt bikes, and ended up at California pass. From there I went to Cinnamon and Engineer Pass before dropping down into Silverton for a bite to eat. From there I took black bear pass back into Telluride. Round trip it was 101 miles. I plan on doing it again the next time I am
    In Colorado.

    • @izuksammy
      @izuksammy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Tim Brandt I would say it largely depends on how comfortable you are with your V-Strom and how it is set up. For me personally, I would want to go with anything much bigger than my DRZ. That said I have never ridden a dirt oriented bike bigger than the DRZ.
If you have ridden off-road quite a bit with the V, go for it. Just be sure to have ABS turned off.

    • @izuksammy

My DRZ was jetted totally wrong when I was in Silverton in 2010. I swore I'd have a EFI DUALSPORT if I planned another trip, so I bought one and intend to go next summer.

Awesome video, great information! You covered just about everything. The only thing I might add is that while most of the passes are easily ridden in the rain, Last Dollar Road (the easiest of all of these), is probably the worst in the rain. It is very slick, especially the sections through all the aspen groves.

Really wanting to do this on my FTR 1200. Did Engineer Pass 2 years ago an my 2016 F150 FX4 super crew, stock height suspension set up with 33s. Got so many stares 😂 I feel like it’d be a similar endeavor on an Indian flat tracker.

Telluride to Ouray is a much better option. The first switchback on the west side of the pass has a steep loose section better traveled uphill than down. Nice review and footage of the area.

You got to ride the back roads of Yosemite. There is one dirt road that leads to an old ghost town and if you take a detour just to ride the main road in the you get the legendary views
