Cultural and educational video, very well explained. I went to Shwedagon Pagoda once with a group of Buddhists but we did not see the 9 wonders. Next time we will take an half day to respect the 9 buddhists stops.

Excellent educational video and what a and what a wonderful pagoda. I went there once with a group of Buddhist pilgrims, we stayed about 2 hours but we have not seen all that. We will come back and take half a day to review this wonder of the world.

According to historical records, the Shwedagon Pagoda was built since BC 588 (over 2600 years old). Shwedagon is the first oldest pagoda in the whole World. Buddha was born 623 BC. Buddha was passed away into Nibbana (Parinirvana) in BC 543. Lord Buddha attained Enlightenment and became Buddha at the age of 35 (BC 588).

Legend has it that the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, was built about 2600 years ago. This makes it the oldest Pagoda in the world. Local stories mention that the Pagoda was built in honor of Gautama Buddha, by two merchants in the BC 588. The eight hair strands of Gautama Buddha were a gift from Lord Buddha to the merchants, Taphussa and Ballika, from Burma.

The unique Image is located at the upper layer of Shwedagon. This layer is only accessible by male. Even for male, he needs to register and get prior approval to access this restricted area. For female, you can see from TV. There is direct broadcast from upper layer. But, there still got a lot of famous and antique images, and interesting things to see at Shwedagon.

Only the first Buddha image they show. The rest you can see. The first one, male or female tourist, they can't see.
Don't worry ... the bestest image is Maha Muni in Mandalay. You can see Maha Muni.
It is not the point seeing the Buddha image. Even though you can see the image, you will not see Buddha. The only way you can understand and really know Buddha is through his teachings and become an enlightened person. Then you really see Buddha.

unfortunately it seems abit sexism for modern time .but even probably 99.9% of male don't go upper layer cos of registration ,approval required due to golds/other jewels or buddha hairs . A female climbing over buddha body(or area) has been seen as inappropriate only where it's considered of buddha body or part of buddha body (or personal space) even male person don't tend to climb over buddha body (or space) . so people are not making big deal out of it. pls educated me if i'm wrong
