    I was going to buy a replacement before you said it was washable. I got the renewal kit with cleaner and oil instead. Thanks!

    Very cool. It sounds pretty good now. Nice and quick too.

    Triumph also has a performance air filter. No remap required if it's already had a remap for Tors pipes.

    The 2015 commander has a closed ECU, you must put a power commander on to get max HP, so thats cut down your airbox ( this will hold your battery, but allow K&N filter to max air flow), get the K&N filter to fit, a power commander must be fitted, performance pipes Pro Predators, and then must dyno, then talk to me again about power. I dont want to talk to anyone talking ''can I do this Can I do that?'' I just told you what to do. This mod fits any THUNDERBIRD, STORM, LT, COMMANDER. This mod will save your engine from burning out and doing a piston change on LT and Commanders.

    Easy access to the filter!

      Yes! Despite the jokes and insinuations that float around about the newer Triumph made bikes, they're more on the good side than bad.

    I am wondering whether I have a K+N installed. Does the filter show the brand? I don't want to spend 70€ to find out my bike already has one and all I need is clean it ...?

      At this time, I think it did, but still need to get the mapping checked.

    Just found this video--very informing! What was the part number on this air filter? I have a 2012 T-Bird Storm and looking to replace my air filter as well.

    Hello I have been enjoying your videos. Nice job. I have a few questions. How long did you keep this bike and what was your final thought if you did sell it.

    • @nwroadrat
      @nwroadrat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I had it a couple years. Loved it. I suspected it was going to get discontinued based on some things I was later seeing. That proved true, and getting service and parts for owners in my area became painful. If you find one, on a discount it would be a great deal.

      @@nwroadrat Notice their is a foam seal on the air filter prior to the change. The K&N doesnt have that. Does that make a difference?

    • @nwroadrat
      @nwroadrat  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewmayrand272 Too much time has passed since I had this bike, but I seem to remember the compartment sealed. This bike is discontinued and didn’t sell in great quantiles. I would be surprised if K&N still has a filter for it.

      @@nwroadrat I have the same bike and filter actually. Its a great ride, but finding parts and accessories is nill. I just noticed the foam seal my K&N doesnt have that but the seal seems fine.

    Please tell me. What are you trying to ACHEIVE with a K&N FITER CHANGE. WHATS THE PROBLEM.

    • @nwroadrat
      @nwroadrat  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kevin Hatton ~ It was advice from another channel, Delboy's Garage. The bike's ideal would go very weak at times and even die at an intersection. Dealer told me the EFI sometimes, or something, goes out of sync on this model. I think what helped the most was removing the CAT. The fuel injection setup on this bike wasn't the best but I suspect its because its trying to meet Euro emission standards. I was going to have a custom dyno done but I gave up on it after all the Triumph dealers in my area closed.

    Hey dude, any info on a 2015 commander? It looks like this one would fit but no one seems to know? Thanks, Joe

    • @nwroadrat
      @nwroadrat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      joseph lahood What I would do, is see if the stock part #'s are the same for the Commander, and the non-Commander bikes. If not, you probably could cross-reference from there. I would be shocked if they are actually not the same.

    • @josephlahood4647
      @josephlahood4647 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a good idea. I asked because a reviewer on Amazon said it wouldnt fit(too tall) his 2014 Thunderbird which would be the same as a 2015. Also Kand N says they don't know. Thanks, Joe

    • @nwroadrat
      @nwroadrat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      joseph lahood OK, I’m shocked and that would probably include the LT. The part numbers for the washable Triumph filter for mine is A9610045. The Commander is A9610073…at least that’s what I got from a website. You might want to try dropping a question to british-customs.com or taking the filter into a Cycle Gear. Cycle Gear might be able to open a couple boxes and eye-ball match it.

      Well i just put a call in to my dealer parts guy and the Triumph number is T2202450 to cross to the KandN number . Theres only one KandN filter for late model Thunderbirds.Commander is not listed. I am trying your'e method. I will let you know what i find out. I just had the high performance Triumph Silencers installed by my dealer along with remapping. Not too impressed with the sound but the air flow improved. I am hoping a nice KandN would wake it up a bit. I liked the way yours sounded in the video. They looked like stock silencers. Regards, Joe

    • @nwroadrat
      @nwroadrat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      joseph lahood I do have stock pipes (long) on now. Partially, how I got that sound was by removing the catalytic converter. I think though on the Commander and LT they're individual (cats) on each pipe? I suspect and please confirm, they've made them harder to remove? With the higher flowing pipes you should have some new fun in the rev ranges.... ((((-:

    Demoted is meant as sensor.
    MAP. MEANING. MANIFOLD APP SALUTE PRESSURE.
    MAP SENSORS. YOU HAVE 2. Above the head. If air is sucked in through loose hoses the ECU (ENGINE CONTROL UNIT) cannot adjust specs as air flow is inaccurate and timing and fuel management cannot be achieved. This is why back fire happens under seat. Very low noise bang.

  • @bigkev9984
    @bigkev9984 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's not EFI. ITS THE MAP SENSOR HOSES. TAKE OLD HOSES OUT FROM TOP OF THROTTLE BODY TO MAP SENSORS CUT 2 hose same length and put in. You maybe are having back fire under seat. Trust me replace 2 hoses is all you need. Your sensors cannot cope with uneven air sucked in through cooked hoses. That's all you need it will never die again. Demoted alter timing and fuel. That's why it stalls and cannot make an idle.

    • @nwroadrat
      @nwroadrat  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kevin Hatton ~ Thanks. My next step was a custom dyno and the place I was talking to also disables the O2 sensors. But really, you shouldn't have to go through all this. Since you mentioned Harley and Victory, you can ride both those bikes off the showroom floor and not have to deal with this, and these problems are probably part of the reason why the TBird was a failure in N. America.

    You have grossly under estimated the TRIUMPH THUNDERBIRD. WHAT I HAVE DONE TO MY THUNDERBIRD WAS DUE TO THE BIKES IN AUSTRALIA, THEY ARE BIG FAST AND IF YOU DONT ENHANCE YOURE BIKE YOU WONT KEEP UP, PLUS MY TBIRD IS CUSTOMISED. MAYBE YOU SHOULD CHECK MY BIKE, YOURS LOOKS SO STOCK AND UN COOL, MINE IS FAT AND LOOKS REALLY GOOD, AND IT GOES,
