Bro, I would suggest not to skip the attempt, since u r in momentum...if I get thru pre take an EOL from office...even I work in a PSU n have planned the same...max they could do is initiate a DA, but can't throw u out of the job...
About the momentum thing, you are right brother. Moreover, bracing yourself for DA is not a good option, rather try to reconcile with the situation at office. This wont create any mental breakdown.
I am also an IIT Graduate, and this was my 3rd Attempt, got 611 overall marks, and had mathematics optional with 200 marks. Confused to give 4th attempt or not.
Bhai if you are planning to go ahead with the same optional and have done some improvement wrt last year, you can attempt. But if you haven’t done any improvement and you feel it is not doable in span of three months (considering significant improvement is reqd) then you can think of taking a drop. Sir I too have Civil Engineering optional and it is very voluminous and demands regular practice and a technical aptitude. Given your IIT background you check all the boxes but as a working professional you might not be able to get time to practice it rigorously. Recently I was pondering over Agriculture as an optional. @ms4j2k Thank you Mihir, you’ve very aptly described the demand of the civil engg optional. I’ll definitely look into the agricultural optional and see if it matches my area of interest. What about you? Are you continuing with the civil engg or have switched to the agri? @@That_Working_UPSC_Aspirant Sir I am a fresher and will be continuing with Civil Engineering. You are absolutely right with it being a good optional but its just that it demands too much of your time. All the best.

You have scored pretty decent marks, nothing to get demotivated. Just take a learning out of it that don’t take any score for granted, continue working hard. All the best!
Bro, Have you prepared optional after mains? i mean any improvement in optional after mains? If not then you should skip. Otherwise you should attempt this prelims because in 3 months between prelims and mains you can prepare your optional.
I could do only a marginal improvement in optional after mains. Tbh in 3 months time with job, I would hardly be able to increase any depth in my technical optional, as GS also needs proper practice and revision. So Prima facie I’m planning to skip for now and work on my optional properly. Thanks for the suggestion.

I guess you should try sociology which will boost you essay and ethics score(already decent). You should give this attempt if you improved upon your optional(upto 250 ) then go for this attempt
Hello sir ..if u can make video on how u prepared for mains as said u did everything after pre and getting such awesome marks ..plz make a detail video on time management, sources , test series , everything plzzzz.....
Okay, I will try to come up with videos covering subject wise details. Though some relevant videos are already there on the channel for time management and source lists, you can refer them for the time being :)
Bro, don’t skip the attempt. The momentum might have slowed down. As far as optional is concerned, you have good amount of knowledge that is why you are getting this much of marks. I think what you need is some value addition and make the answers structure in a better way which you can do conveniently after the prelims before the mains as you have all the basic foundations. My optional is Geography and none of the top 10 rankers have Geography as their optional this year. The marks you show about Geography optional make me to work more on Geography.
Change your optional to sociology and give this attempt only and after pre in 3 months you can pay attention to your optional as sociology optional can be covered easily

Bhai, I’ve almost made up my mind to part my ways with technical optional and go with humanities. In that case, I have to take a drop. Hahaha! Medical leave is tricky here.
Why not appear for prelims? I don't see any loss in it. I'm sure you'll be able to clear, and then all the while revise GS and prepare for optional. I might be missing something because if you've taken that decision then there must be some logical reasoning behind it. Please share
You are right, but the only issue I find is I would stuck in the cycle, given the fact, major improvement in optional is required. Once I enter in the mains cycle again (July-Sept), I won’t be able to make any significant improvement (as I have a full time job with increased responsibilities as well, so less available study time) would probably be in the same situation in December.
Do you think it’s possible to develop sufficient writing skills in 3 months if I’ve never done answer writing before. I prepared some basic notes for most GS subjects (not all though) and optional but may need significant value addition. No idea of Ethics so far, neither I know the right approach to it (I just downloaded LukmaanIAS lectures and notes). It’s hard to find people who’ve actually prepared it after prelims and qualified mains.
You r right. I also experienced the same in my mains preparation nd got 633 marks in mains in 3 months of preparation. I don’t think anybody can clear in 3 months even the syllabus can be completed.
@@mandeep.banwala I know if you have to make notes, cover your optional, practice answer writing along with Essay and language paper in those 3 months then no human can probably qualify. However my point was that if you have some content ready then would it be possible to adequately develop writing skills in those 3 months or it takes at least 8 months or more as mentioned by some toppers.
Brother you should drop your optional and take which is more scoring & need less time to prepare, these criteria can be fulfilled by sociology, anthropology. And obviously you should not appear in this preliminary examination as rank mains se aati hai which is a weaker point.
I made notes from Rajtanil Ma’am’s youtube lectures (ppts) and linked with the current events. (Have described the mapping part in detail in a video already)
Not here to offend but just an honest opinion. A upsc aspirant who can't take such decisions which i think should be very individual as no one knows better than you himself like how much time you are getting ,what is your mental state ,at how much depth you have studied the subjects etc etc, others advice in this regard is nonsense. Dont seek such personal advice from others and soecially on a public platform like youtube ,you are about to become a bureacrat behave like one bhai.
I have slightly different approach on it than yours : I believe considering diverse viewpoints improves decision making and helps one to take a well informed decision. Also, you’ve very rightly mentioned, career decisions are very individualistic, but analysing various perspectives would do no harm but expose you to different ideas (which one might not have thought otherwise). Talking about bureaucracy, I believe, a blend of discretion along with apt dose of community participation and engagement leads to more sustainable and inclusive outcome. Moreover, respect your opinion.
Yaar IIT se hone se kuch nhi hota Even though I am in IIT but giving equal respect and time to my UPSC preparation. Mere IIT wale friends bhi aise samjhte rahte hai ki ham to IIT se hai 1 sal me nikal lege
Please can i personally talk to you?? Actually i don't have any group and i m preparing alone which makes it difficult for me to complete my targets and everything so please allow me to contact you.
Bhai isse 2 months aur chale jaenge. It’s better to take call now and work for it. (My opinion, because taking a drop means immediately shifting to Mains) You are also right at your own place.

I am younger than you that's I wrong sp that you think my advice but do your mind and hart .
Thank you
I guess you should try sociology which will boost you essay and ethics score(already decent).
You should give this attempt if you improved upon your optional(upto 250 ) then go for this attempt
Fair enough. Thanks :)
if number of attemp is not a problem then attempt, if yes then take a break
Fair enough!
@@That_Working_UPSC_Aspirant thank u
change optional right now and think about sco geo
What do u think worked in gs 3 for u
I think enriching the answers with facts, figures and committee recommendations had worked.
Thank you for the suggestions :)
I’ll see to it.
Change your optional to sociology and give this attempt only and after pre in 3 months you can pay attention to your optional as sociology optional can be covered easily
I have almost made up my mind for socio.
Analysing the PYQs since yesterday.
Sir right now im 28 year old. I'm ready for prelim 2024 but not mains properly.
From the age prospective Should i skip the attempt for confidently prepar for mains.
Bcz family are pressuring about marriage although im working professional.
Pls give me some advice brother 🙏
Hi Chirag!
If you have 3 or more attempts remaining, you must attempt this year’s prelims. If you get through the pre, you will gain immense confidence while preparing for mains, this experience would help you in your future attempts as well( if you have to give)
Actually sir for me attempt is not concerned bcz I'm from reserved category.
I have all the notes ready for mains At one place. But I didn't write single answer. So if I clear prelims this time, and will give my 110% for mains is there will be any chances to clear cutting off reserved category.... ???
@@That_Working_UPSC_Aspirant
@chiragparmar3908 you must appear this year.
All the best!
mjhe lgta hai aapka decision shi hai, agle prelims tk mains , specially optional ko master kr lijiye, gs to aapka accha hai hi.
Thank you :)
Sir i think you should skip this attempt work on your optional and clear this exam next year in one go
Thank you :)
Working on it, will take a call shortly.
Yes, you should take a drop, and prepare for optional and gs in a brilliant way. Best luck,
I would suggest not to take a break. .. yh exam aisa h ki how good we are prepared ..we cannt trust ki next year acha hoga and is saal nhi ..rest is your call
Thanks Shivendra!
Very valid point, analysing all the aspects, incl changing of optional. Will take a call in a day or two!
bhaai pre do,. uske bad ek din pura dhayn se socho ki mains ki lie prepare krna he to mains ke lie 3 mahine ka medical leave le lo...bss bad me jo hoga dekha jahega i m with u tc..
Once I enter in the mains cycle again (July-Sept), I won’t be able to make any significant improvement (as I have a full time job with increased responsibilities as well, so less available study time) would probably be in the same situation in December.
which test series to follow for psir optional any idea ??
I won’t be the right person to comment on this.
Bhai ye upsc hai jab tumhe lge ki maine itne padhne me itna la diya tabhi mat kha jaoge upsc is unpredictable padhte rho bhut expectations mat rkho
Bhai optional change karo geography lo isse ye benifit hoga ki gs 1 aur gs 3 me number gain hoge nika jayega upsc tumhara.
wrong advice
Geography is pretty time taking, few of my friends have had geography as optional.
Drop your optional go for humanity type optional. Anthropology or sociology
I also feel the same :)
Sir jo bhi h pr attempt mt skip kro please🙏🙏
A - MUST SKIP
Hi we post upsc prelims pyq
I had decided to skip this attempt
भाई लोगो को समझा रहे हो या खुद को सेलेक्ट ना होने की तसल्ली दे रहे हो ?
बाकी बात तो सही है।
ख़ुद को तसल्ली दे रहा भाई !😊
Brother you should drop your optional and take which is more scoring & need less time to prepare, these criteria can be fulfilled by sociology, anthropology.
And obviously you should not appear in this preliminary examination as rank mains se aati hai which is a weaker point.
Thank you for the suggestions :)
Considering various options.
bhai,optionalchangekrlo.
how do you do world mapping for prelims?
I have slightly different approach on it than yours :
I believe considering diverse viewpoints improves decision making and helps one to take a well informed decision.
Take a drop brother
Why fake accent ???? Khul ko bolo bhai
Okay, I guess it’s my actual accent, but will definitely give it a look if there is any scope of improvement.
Thanks for the feedback, sir!

Drop me your contact details over email, we can connect over google meet may be, when I get some time off.
@@That_Working_UPSC_Aspirant you're so humble,thank you buddy!
Bhai jm ke padho, ye soch ke ki exam dena hai, last week me decide krna kya krna hai
Bhai isse 2 months aur chale jaenge. It’s better to take call now and work for it. (My opinion, because taking a drop means immediately shifting to Mains)
You are also right at your own place.
