I use Camtasia for recording the videos. The subtitles are a feature of you tube. When you create a video you have the option of adding subtitles. Some times you have to type them but most times they are available automatically

I don't understand how why 12 was used as the start number in the replace function in the first example

You start from the left hand side and count characters
