I really love Melanie La Barrie's rendition of this song. I think it's the hardest one to pull off for the Hermes role. In the first half of the song, she's completely alone in an eerily quiet stage. Other actors who've played Hermes sometimes speed through it to fill the silences. But Melanie isn't afraid to grind the song down to a halt and use silences to let the tragedy truly sink in. When I watched it live, the whole theatre was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Her deliberate pacing made it an incredibly intense moment. And the second half of the song turns the sad ending into a new beginning full of possibilities, because you've seen how the world could be. I love the way her voice suddenly booms and turns the song around into one of hope and new beginnings. She really is an amazing storyteller!
I was in the theatre for Grace and Dònal’s (OG West End Orpheus & Eurydice) final show and Jesus, the entire theatre was bawling during this song. Melanie’s voice is so emotional and the fact that it was their last show as well. Lord, Melanie is a PHENOMENAL actress.
I wished to go, but it was sold out by the time I had the money together! I am sure it was heartbreaking, I'd have loved to see their last night too (I'd already seen the show once). Melanie made me cry both times I went (I put the ticket's money in a ticket for the first night of the new cast), her voice is so powerful and full of emotions you can't help but react to it.
i was there too and it was the best theatre experience i've ever had. the whole audience was sobbing by this point, which just goes to show how phenomenal the cast do at performing this. Donal's 'If it's True' that night was also jaw dropping, the best i've ever heard it (from him or otherwise) on that night
@@shmalfie8674 I personally don’t think she sounds as good as say Eva Noblezada (although that is a tough comparison 😂) but I thought that she is still a phenomenal actress and wasn’t necessarily ‘bad’
@@rorylawy I might have seen her on a bad day, but she really struggled hitting notes that it was nerve wracking when she sang. Acting wise, I thought she fell flat too. I dunno.

What did you think of Grace? I thought she was really poor

The way i actually cried… shouldnt have listened to this while eating breakfast
Live, Laugh, La Barrie!!!
This rendition gives me gospel choir vibes. I love it!
Couldn't stop crying 😭♥️
This is amazing, thank you so much for this. Such an amazing cast and show, I saw it a couple of days ago
SO BEAUTIFUL!
In the previous song Orpheus was a step from seeing how the world could be but faltered. We go again so that maybe we'll take that extra step!
