  • Here is what I could see with my Panasonic FZ80 (82)! It is a 200$ camera I got used that has 60x optical zoom and 4k video capabilities. It has a built in optical stabilizer which is helpful. I also used a tripod for the best stability, but at the zoom levels I reached, stability was hard to achieve. I could get around twice the detail if the image sensor in my camera was 1". The sensor in mine is only .5". This was a trade off for getting such features on my camera.
with a NASA telescope, you can get more stable photos and video with their motorized tracking system and their much larger telescopes.
If you are wondering why I laughed after I said "Sharp", that is the name of my science teacher whom this video was for.

I was made aware that I had missed the lunar eclipse which had occured a few days after this. Will have to wait until next year I guess...

My FZ80 did not miss the solar eclipse. I didn't know that I could see Jupiter or Saturn! I made my own microphone windshield for this camera from parts from the dollar store...I should upload that for fellow bridge camera owners. Thanks for sharing.

@@WhistlesToAnimals I got the recent solar eclipse too! I should upload it too. Go ahead and upload! I just missed seeing a red moon last year (lunar eclipse).

Nice video showing the potential of the camera. But I would recommend a tripod for moon shots and also to download the app to wifi remote the camera. That'll give you more stable videos.

That was with a tripod... However, I have noticed that the app does help.

How did you even zoom more after you reach maksimum zoom? I had a kind of option before i put camera on reset. There was 1200mm zoom but i was going even more but don't know how to set this up after factory reset. Had to put it on reset because zoom error shows up from time to time, thought it will help but it looks like common problem on lumix fz cameras

Just make sure that whatever mode you are on (the turn dial on the top of yours), the "i.Zoom" and "Digital Zoom" are not grayed out. For picture settings, it is on page 3/7 and on video settings it is page 4/5. I think these extra options are limited to the "M" video mode, or the mode between "C" and "M". Hope this helps.

Can you share setting for this view ? I had try but only moon possible with my fz80. Not able to see other planets. Screen goes burry every time.

You have to find the autofocus button on the camera and set it to "MF". The AF mode just doesn't like zooming into infinity. Once you switch it into MF, press the left button on the circular D-pad. You should be on a screen with a slider on the right side of the screen. You can use your finger to drag the bar up/ down or use the up and down buttons to adjust it. When you adjust it, a horizontal bar appears. It it best focused around the part where the bar turns red. Assuming you have all your iso set right, your exposure at its max, video set to 30 fps, you should now be able to see what I have shown.

There are a lot more specifics that Graham Houghton covers. I would suggest his playlist:

No f way. Panasonic goes for 60x zoom, Nikon 125x

@@hermansales9582 The only thing this camera has on the p1000 is 2 more megapixels in resolution and a touchscreen, but the 125x optical zoom is far superior. I am pretty sure even the p900 is better than mine.
