    Hello there, I am delighted to see this Bison Ranch successfully existing in Calgary - Alberta, During Expo 86 which took place here in Vancouver, I worked as a media reporter in Saudi Arabia"s pavilion, I covered all the events in the Saudi Pavilion and other events at the Expo 86 for Transportations & Communications. I report to all the Saudi Daily Newspapers. The NWT. (North West Territory Pavilion"s) was located across the Saudi Pavilion, and they have a nice Restaurant, serving Bison Meet, Burgers, Steak and even Roast. Their prices were compatible to other fast food Restaurants. I ate most of my daily meals in the NWT pavilion.

    For sure, guys, you have done a lot in the ranch, specially because you don't live in it.
    A suggestion for a video:
    - Marketing the buffalos. Is it easy to find buyers for the yearlings and also for the ones which will become beef in your area? Does the buffalo meat taste alike to a cow meat?

      thank you for the quick reply. Two things, yes we did have a parasite issue in both animals. The first we caught too late, and lost her because of anemia due to a heavy parasite load (Heamonchus Contortus) barberpole worms. She had a heavy load, fecal flotation count of 5. We wormed her with Dectomax twice but she was too far gone. We sent her away to be examined and not only did she have a heavy parasite load she was mineral deficient based on their findings which was puzzling to our vet as we gave her a shot of multimin to help with her recovery and a weekly injection of B12. I do have the necrospy report with their findings. She went downhill VERY fast. By the time we treated her she was gone in 5 weeks. The second animal we caught very early on, we have treated her several times now for worms while doing a fecal flotation count every 2 week. The most recent count was an egg count of 1 down from 4. So much better. However, she is very weak, gave a multimin shot about 3 weeks ago, a b12 shot weekly and now she is loosing weight daily. All of the same symptoms as the other we lost. We have been treating her for 3 months now. Her deuteriationis much slower than the other, but her body index score is a 1 or worse. Very Very frustrating, i see her wasting away and doesn't seem like there is anything i can do. I did order a custom Mineral mixture i have started based on our soil which is very poor, even though our pastures are nice and green. We could any and all ideas are welcome at this point. Just a side note, we did a fecal flotation on our other animals and they all came back with a score of 0.

    The body condition scoring would be cool.
    Also, have you thought planting sorghum? It’s a grass that can grow up to up to six feet tall, and I’ve seen a lot of ranchers who sprinkle it into their pastures and their cattle love it. It could help keep hay cost down when the drought is over. Hopefully it will be over soon.

    Hi guys. Yeah this current heat wave and drought situation is hurting so many ranchers and farmers, it's sad to see. Jeff, I'm curious if a temporary irrigation system to water areas of the pastures that generally grow grasses well would be a short term option. If you can get areas to grow then that would be in house food. Also was wondering if there's a place you can make a mud pit for the main herd to wallow in. Hopefully the states up in central/ north America will have plenty of hay to offer due to the significant amount of precip they've had/are still getting. I wish to y'all the very best of everything. Please post a mailing address for us 👍❤😁

      I've contemplated a temporary water system for selected areas. I just need the electric put in. Everything we hire out for just takes soooo long to get done. It'll drive you nuts.

    Just starting with bison, 3 lears in now ans now im starting to have mineral deficiency issues. Lost 1 a few months afo and now a second is almost to the point of no return. Started as a parasite issue, got that under control and now just keeps loosing weight. gicen a shot of multimin, and plenty of mineral high in selinum copper and magnesium. But still loosing weight weight and very lethargic. Body index is a 1 or worse. Ideas?? How often can we inject with multimin. Cattle is once every 3 months but no information on bison. Thanks

    • @BlackacreRanch
      @BlackacreRanch  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Loosing weight can be from a number of issues. First I would ask if you are positive it is a mineral issue. You can check the mineral content of your grasses/feed to be sure but as long as you are providing minerals as you state, it would not be my first concern. Parasites and Feed Quality are my first concerns. Getting poo samples and checking for parasite loads is very important right now. Confirm they are low or high. Worm if needed. Check again after worming to confirm your dosages worked. I would then check the nutritional quality of your feed. You can send samples for analysis. Low quality feeds will slowly starve a bison over time. If the feed and parasite possibilities are not sorted out, no amount of multimin will work. If wanting to inject more doses, I'd start with following the cattle dosage info.
