This band qualified for the finals of the 5A state marching band contest where they placed 2 of 10, make them the 5A Texas State Marching Band Silver Medalist.
I performed that day and had the time of my life. Was beyond lucky to be marching with all my peers and wouldn’t take back one second of it😌

Kiddos, you will have to step it up if you go to the Grand Nationals. This performance won't get you very far.
+Kenneth Mills Vandegrift scored 10th in BOA San Antonio Finals. By doing that in a Texas competition that would score that at least around 6th with the two more weeks of practice. Against bands coming from all across the country that would be in my opinion "very far".
+Kenneth Mills Vandegrift was ranked 19th in the nation for all BOA bands at the end of their season. This ranking, plus the additional two weeks of practice that they would have, would put Vandegrift around the top ten at finals. How is this not considered "very far"? Also, keep in mind that this was a State year for Vandegrift, which means that they are expected to rank lower at BOA events. Their show would be geared more towards a BOA style judge if they were to actually go to Grand Nationals.
state year had nothing and has nothing to do with BOA rankings, Vandegrift's best year so far was a state year (2013) and they have consistently stayed in the same score range for three years now 87-89. this is by no means poor or not good enough for grand nats finals by adding a point or two for the two weeks extra practice. however i do agree that if they ever wanna break into the top 5 of either san antonio or grand nationals they need to try some more risky drill and music designs. it's all well and good and VERY clean, but it lacks anything that hasn't been seen a thousand times.
Size isn't an issue, Leander and cedar park are the same size with more intricate drill and the woodlands, Avon, LD bell, Carmel, broken arrow, William Mason, Reagan, and broken arrow, to name only a few have at the least 50-75 more people on the field and yet they have far more intricate drill. The issue is in design, not size
Luke Kemmerer they could make grand national finals with what they are doing now, but what I said is that if they wanna surge into the top 5 of grand nationals or San Antonio then they need a harder show especially visually.
