I’ve been using the Farberware 4 cup electric percolator for over 40 years. The Best and hottest cup of coffee every time. My recipe, first, ignore the fill lines inside. Fill it with cold water to the spout so you can see a little water sitting in the spout. (This is exactly 32 ounces of water). Then place the stem inside, then the basket. I use exactly 3 full scoops (the plastic scoops that they give occasionally with a can of coffee). If you don’t have a scoop, each scoop is equal to exactly 2 rounded tablespoons of coffee. So you are adding 6 rounded table spoons of coffee. Place the lid on the basket. Place the top on the pot. Plug it in. That’s it. Don’t waste your time with paper filters as some have suggested in other videos. It’s not necessary. Also, I’ve seen some dangerous advice about removing the basket after the coffee is done perking. NEVER! The coffee is at 185 degrees. Just pour it when it completes its cycle. In 7 minutes, your home will be filled with the aroma of coffee and it is piping hot and always delicious. Leave it plugged in for as long as you need to. It’s just going to keep it hot and will not Perc again. You’ll be going back for a second cup. Trust me. I use Chock full o’ nuts. New York Roast. (I like a bold taste). The grinds from canned coffee are perfect for these pots and will not “slip” out of the filter. Enjoy!
I have several of these Farberware percolators in different sizes. When you pick these up at flee markets often they have been turned in because they no longer brew hot enough and end the brew cycle too soon. This is because the thermostat is not good any more. That can be easily purchased from Amazon and replaced to have it working like new again.
Thank you for this great review. I loved Faberware percolators and just picked up a vintage percolator yesterday minus the cord. I gained some valuable tips with your lesson.
Ive found that putting a good handful of ice into the pot, makes it perk a bit longer, giving you a much stronger cup of Joe. I have the 8 cup model. Best cup of coffee for sure...
What a gem you have! I have never owned a drip maker, just percolators. They make the BEST cup of coffee! Thanks for sharing this video. Enjoy your coffee!
The ceramic tube is not a spacer Nathaniel. It insulates the hot water rising up the pump tube from the cold water in the percolator. This prevents the cold water from reducing the temperature of the hot water as it rises up the pump tube and impacting the brewing process.
I've noticed that only the older NY made percolators use this ceramic sleeve. All of the newer ones however have eliminated this sleeve as it really doesn't make a noticeable difference in brewing time or quality.
The ceramic insulator tube purpose is two fold. It keeps the water flowing over the grounds hot. It also prevents the cold water from getting heated prematurely. There is a thermostat that would end the brewing cycle too early if that tube wasn't there.
One more thing, it’s best to buy a used vintage Farberware electric coffee pot from eBay, or wherever, rather than buy a new one. The Chinese are now making them and they are cheap like everything else they make.
I wholeheartedly agree!!!!!! I have several farberware percolators! The 4,8,12,30 and the 55 cup urn the 4,8,12 cup models are 45 years old and I have the 8 cup and 12 cup that have the long spout
Put dishwasher solution (soap or powder) in the basket, fill to the max line and run a full perk cycle. Do this a few times and the inside will be like new. You can do this o stovetop models too... as long as they are stainless steel and not aluminum.
I clean mine by running it for a cycle with a couple of cups of vinegar. Then, run a cycle with water. Then, run a couple of cycles with water and 2 cups of baking soda. Run a cycle or two with a full load of water to rinse off any baking soda and coffee sediment. Your coffee will taste better immediately with no bitterness or burnt coffee flavor. It's a miracle! By the way, Melita makes round Disc filters that fit perfectly inside the Farberware percolators. Happy brewing.
In practice that wasn't a bad idea but when I use the older one with this sleeve as compared to the newer ones that have eliminated this feature, I really can't tell any difference in brewing time or quality.
Loved my new to my vintage farberware superfast electric percolator. Forgot to put water in my percolator this morning and cooked the thermostat ( heating element) . Any ideas on how to track down a new thermostat for a model 13b.
I believe with some of these there were extra fuses in the bottom, I haven't checked it out, but you could try unscrewing the base and seeing what in there if you haven't done that already. Good luck these are great little pots.
That looks like it is a replacement knob as the original ones were often made of clear resin that tend to yellow over time. you could install a universal replacement glass knob if you were willing to bore an appropriate sized hole in the lid to accept it. I've noticed however that the stand tube is longer in the pots that use the see through top as they extend slightly up into the top.

Love these, I use them for the electric kettle without the percolating parts. Fast and hot.

Actually, it is Farberware (with an 'r').
The spring keeps pressure between the top of the filter basket, and the lid to the coffee pot. Much less chance of getting grounds in your brew...

I wish the new models still had the glass top on them

I hope he sees your comment because the superfast is stainless. She likely just wants cleaning☀

That ceramic sleeve on the pump keeps the water hot as it travels up the pump so the water is hot as it makes contact with the coffee

That filter folds over...
I just found one at goodwill for $4
try 2 tablespoons per cup..
I have this same 4 cup Farberware without the see through knob that you have. Does anybody know if it possible to get this lid today?

nice fire king mug!
You used a wrap filter then didn’t wrap it😂😂😂.
