Thank you so much for doing this review from the ADHD perspective. I have considered Motion, but it looked complicated to me. As a mom of 4 with special needs children, the main caretaker of the household, and a small business owner, I have been looking for something to help me keep track of appointments, meetings, household tasks, activities, and buisiness deadlines, but it absolutely has to be mobile friendly. I don't often have the opportunity to sit at my computer.
So VERY recently, they added a mobile app, which means that that part of my review no longer applies. If the rest makes sense for you, then it might be worth trying now.
@@AdhDONE Thanks for the update here in the comments! Just came across your TH-cam while searching for reviews, and this update might be a game changer.
Hello!! First, thank you very much for your video! I was 100% bombarded by motion advertisements and today I finally decided to try the 7 days. Two points that were already negative for me were undoubtedly the price, which is quite high, especially for people from countries whose currency is devalued against the dollar. It's definitely not a very accessible tool and, at this price, it really raises my expectations. The second point is that despite the video they send 'teaching' you how to use it, I felt it lacked a more complete written tutorial - that's what made me come here and I've got to know your channel, which is a very nice thing. I came looking for more information on how to best use the tool to get the most out of it.
I've been struggling with adapting to using motion. I'm similar to you in the sense that I have a hard time sticking to the rigidity. Listening to this helps confirm that maybe it's not the best fit for me. Thank you for the review!
Fantastic review. So very helpful, particularly pointing out that if someone has a flexible work pattern it might not work quite so well. I can wake up and feel full of beans at 6am one day and not be able to get out of bed until 8am the following day. I'll check it out along with some other less expensive alternatives.
What you said made me think that maybe Motion sould integrate a feature that allows you to adjust your daily tasks based on your energy levels. For example, on days when you're feeling low on energy, it could automatically schedule more enjoyable or relaxing activities like reading to help boost your mood. This would probably require us to input how much energy each task demands and how rewarding they are, to optimize the schedule effectively. Anyway thanks for the honest review!
I was hoping for this feature, too, as I wanted to program in that on my luteal and menstrual phase of my cycle, I would have shorter work days. VS on my follicular and ovulatory phases, I could program in longer work days. But Motion just doesn't allow for that. So I'm back to using Apple iCal, and just leaving myself tons of notes and reminders in it.
I have been considering this app, as I desperately need help with time management!!!! I'm horrible with prioritization, procrastination and have time blindness very badly. I am not super computer savvy regarding very techy knowledge, but love customization with colors and things that have a lot of options but look simplistic. In seeing ads for Motion on IG, it looked like it could possibly work for me, however, I would need something on my phone because I work (visiting nurse, so not at a desk) and running errands is like going into another realm...I get totally lost on time and take FOREVER at every stop, losing track of the rest of my tasks. I'm SO glad I came across your review - just what I was looking for!! I will check out your others as well :) But given that Motion doesn't offer a mobile app (odd) and the cost (especially given ADHDers are already not good with $!), I will be passing on this one. Thank you!
Glad to help! If you have an iPhone, you might want to check into the app Paced. It's free and has a lot of the same functionalities as Motion. It won't keep track of priorities or travel time, but it will move your day around, and it even keeps track of what your energy rise and falls should look like. Pairs quite nicely with the Apple watch as well.
I’m in the same boat! 😅 to not have a robust mobile app in this day and age is so surprising. I’d also need color and pop rather than just a blah template. Thank you so much for the thorough and very helpful review! Have fun with your puppy!
Yeah, things can pile up if you're not always up for doing things. Honestly, if you have energy or chronic issues and DON'T have something forcing you to work every day, this probably won't be for you. I'd actually suggest instead something like Sunsama, which will help you keep up, but also allows you reschedule tasks to the next day.
I’m just looking into a tool called SkedPal, which is has a smaller user base, but seems to have extremely positive reviews. These often say that it is way more robust, customisable and smarter in the way it schedules tasks than Motion or ReclaimAI. On the other hand, the learning curve seems to be much longer because of the amount of customisability. It was redesigned last year and has a phone app. Have you heard of the app before? There do not seem to be many articles or videos about it 😅 I love customisability and the feeling of making it “my own”. But for example, I started using obsidian for my notes, and I often end up just playing with different features for hours to make it marginally better 😂
I have never heard of SkedPal, but it seems like something I'd be down to mess with. I'll add it to my schedule and start playing with it soon so I can get a video out on it. Thanks for the tip!
Oh no... I laughed so hard at the start of the video until you said concussion and now I feel a little guilty. I laughed because: "It's me... I'm back... because... you know... disappeared again... but... I'm back... and err..." should be the ADHD motto.
this is a really helpful update, thank you. Is there something else you would recommend that is similar but has a phone app? You mentioned a couple of others I've not heard of..
Hey! So Motion now DOES have a phone app (it came out literally a week or so after this video, because of course it did), so it might be worth it for you to try! There aren't very many apps out there that do the same amount of moving around and pre-planning for you that Motion does, so it might be a good idea to try that one first now that the app is out.
Great info! I don't have ADHD but I resonate with having low energy days due to migraines. Thanks for the feedback on this app...but curious about what you would recommend instead?
I'm in the midst of trying Sunsama, and I'm really loving it for anyone who has energy problems or days where they might not be able to do much. I 've only been testing it for a few days, but I can really see the value in it for those days, as it'll help you reschedule things if you need to.
So what app would you recommend for ADHD people who are very mobile (even at home) and are juggling multiple responsibilities? I’m in chronic overwhelm as a caregiver of two (stroke-recovering mom & almost-blind spouse), homemaker, entrepreneur, young adult & pet parent, etc.😅 I need an app that has all the benefits of motion, but provides the flexibility it doesn’t have.
The closest I can think of is an app called Paced. It’s iOS only, and it won’t necessarily help with prioritizing, but it DOES help with time management much in the same manner as Motion, plus it helps you keep track of energy changes throughout the day. Might be worth a shot!
Try Motion free for 7 days: usemotion.sjv.io/c/3506001/1343693/15865

Haha first time came across your channel and your energy instantly sold me! 😂
thank you it made much sense, this was my experience homeschool mom, entrepreneur and student, who needs work out. you are the best.
One of the most thorough, thoughtful, and honest reviews that I've seen in a long time. Thank you!
This is super kind of you to say. Thank you!

So sad that Paced isnt available in my region. It sounds perfect
Thanks this is a great review
I wanted to try this but I also have chronic issues with energy/pain so I don't know if it will work for me.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful tool ❤ Could you share which app you are using now ?
This was helpful. Thank you.
I found one called Trevorai that syncs with todoist seamlessy for less than $5 but no app yet…
I'll look into it!

They do have a mobile app (not sure how recently they added it)
Super recently! I just got an email about it yesterday 😂. It’s nice to know they changed that. If you’ve tried it, lemme know how it is!
really helpful

@@AdhDONE awesome, what would you say pros and cons VS motion is? :)

Thank you for the review. You brought up all the points I was wondering and wanted the app for. That said, not really helpful and worthy for me now.
They have a mobile app now.
I checked out the current reviews for their app and the feedback isn't very positive
