I'm impressed that they took care of all the items on your list the first time back. Good idea to send them out with an experienced crew to pick up on a few details, but overall, nice work. You strike me as a great boss.
You may have missed your calling not being a soft spoken Southern talk radio show host: Talking with Ted. It sure is relaxing listening to you as you talk us through each job. Thanks for all of your videos.
Gas cans and gas powered lawn equipment under a house with an open flame....I would definitely advise my customer against that. My neighbors house burnt down because of similar situation years ago
Stacked units under equipment should be mortared together to prevent slippage from vibration. I also agree that they might have been aligned better. Thanks for professional approach.
Install looks great. As a fellow contractor , I have found cutting the plug off of the condensate pump loses the UL rating. In the event of a accident it could be found at fault. We have learned that the hard way. I would recommend installing an outlet for the pump
I’m more of a fan of suspending from unistrut and all thread rod. It doesn’t add much cost to the job and it’s a solid and reliable way to do it. Not knocking the job at all just my 2 cents. Really enjoy your videos.
You can add vibration coils on the unistrut, or cork pads between air handler and plywood to stop vibration, it looks 100x better than block, just looks so cheap that way.
yeah, but I seen the cord going all willy-nilly off up to the right towards the light and assumed the outlet was on a switch that's turned off! now after seeing the outlet now, with the plug and light beside it, I'm betting the plug goes to the light and the switch for the outlet is in the house with a pilot lamp(lighted switch) which previous owner cobbled up. now it got shut off by home owner because they seen the light on the crawlspace on and didn't know it controlled the outlet and was cobbled up with a plug for the light :))
I've watched many of your videos and appreciate your experience an expertise. I've heard it said in different ways that when choosing HVAC product, install matters far more than brand. Curious if you agree. It would be great to see a video from you on this. (Although I'm sure you must get sick of being asked this :)
Why use blocks at all? Why not hang the furnace from floor and have full adjustability to level or pitch equipment as needed? It's a much cleaner install. Also they make rubber isolators to dampen any noise or vibration when hanging them
You work is always excellent - however - if you need to go back and check your guys workmanship that means you have the wrong kind of people working for you - that job looks ordinary at best and it has been reworked.
Yes Big Ted put the guy with an experienced person and it will rub off if he wants it just ask me! (BREAK TIME) I'm still learn'n !😜 I needed y'all 25 years ago.😆 That cinder block thing must be a southern thing tho?🤔🥃🍺 Stay safe. Retired keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses.
How come you guy's don't use the Trane bay vent kits?? It troubles me to see PVC pipe sticking out of the side of a house, especially an expensive house...
majority of what they do are replacements, many of which have random size vent/power vent holes already in place. so it would still need some flat/round plate to cover existing hole size or more work to make the hole size larger. it all sounds great on paper, until the customer gets a bid for $500+ more (materials and labor). I guess you could give them the option and cost difference, but we know what 96% will do to start with (cheap cheap cheap go the birdies)
I know you guys in south with crawl spaces need to seal the duct work, but boy, do i hate the way a new install looks with mastic all over it.it seems like their could be a better solution. Thanks
I foil taped a whole run of armaflex on outdoor refer lines. the old stuff deteriorated from sunlight, so I installed new armaflex and ran wide foil tape lengthwise to cover all the outwards facing sun exposed portion. the wide tape covered it about 3/4 way around :))
I think the blocks being straight do matter. The cust. May never see it but it still matters. Your suppose to strive for perfection until it becomes a habit. Then it's not perfect its excellent wotk.
teddy ur a good man try 2 teach youg ones as they com up in co i heae 2 many kids get yelled at i will take a good kid and help all the way its not only booksm i have 2 girls appentic plumbers i think they will b ok in 3yrs 2 get there lic
LOL, it's not legal really in any traffic laws anywhere in the USA that I know of, but, in general low traffic volume allotment like that and it being a service truck/van, nobody will say anything and law wouldn't pay it no mind, so long as it's not blocking traffic/emergency services ;) most rural areas are very relaxed about such and forgiving, until you get into some screwball HOA(homeowners association) areas, some complain about cars not being parked in garage, trashcan not perfectly aligned at end of driveway, out before 8pm night before collection, not in garage after by 6am, etc. ;) been around the block and worked in plenty of them for years and they generally give us slack as contractors, but we've worked for them since the allotments were new(including the HOA executors) watched them run other contractors out within 20 minutes before lol

Looking Good. Thanks for moving that electrical box, I feel much better now.

yep well said
Plus all of that paper acting as fire-fuel
That is what we called the jackpot house...

Learned more at unofficial coffee breaks with older techs than any school I attended.

I'm against attaching it to the house. They are much much much quieter not attached to the home
There are pros and cons to a suspended installation. One of the cons is, transmitted vibration of the HVAC unit up to the floor joists.
I was thinking the same thing and wondering why they didn’t put a crib in there while they changed it out

Heater stands
Thanks for sharing your install with us and for your honesty of pointing out some of your installers short comings and fixes
Good quality control with your installations TED! Good to see you care about that!
Wow Ted I am impressed with your QC....keep it up
Looks good but I'd wire that condensate float circuit in to the R terminal on the IFC with a condensing furnace.
Always great detail keep up the great work!
Man, nothing I love more than my boss coming behind me.
Every day is a school day. Its code in my area to mastic every seam. Including where the furnace and coil meet together
The new pump lol. I know a bunch of us were like "wasn't that leaking?".

6:06 big gap where the tape has already let go of the insulation?

Looks warm down there! -22f where I am at.
Why wouldn't you hang the unit with unit struts it would look 1000000 times better
install looks a lot better, very nice

Hanging kit ?? In Florida never passed bro
I really like the follow up videos
You work is always excellent - however - if you need to go back and check your guys workmanship that means you have the wrong kind of people working for you - that job looks ordinary at best and it has been reworked.
Totally agree!
Do you employ installers direct or are they sub contractors?
Yes
Big Ted put the guy with an experienced person and it will rub off if he wants it just ask me! (BREAK TIME)

Where’s the intake?
THEY ARE PULLING COMBUSTION AIR FROM THE CRAWL SPACE, NOT A PROBLEM.
what did you were back call the 2ed time
I know you guys in south with crawl spaces need to seal the duct work, but boy, do i hate the way a new install looks with mastic all over it.it seems like their could be a better solution. Thanks
Lol I'm glad to see that my installers aren't the only ones that use silver tape on armaflex
Why not just use insulation tape or electric tape?
I foil taped a whole run of armaflex on outdoor refer lines. the old stuff deteriorated from sunlight, so I installed new armaflex and ran wide foil tape lengthwise to cover all the outwards facing sun exposed portion. the wide tape covered it about 3/4 way around :))

I would have replaced that old 2lb regulator as well. Never know if the diagram is bad.
probably not a bad idea for safety and covering your own "hind quarters"

Are u looking for a service Tech
It is possible yes.
@@TedCookHVAC I give you a call about 1030am in morning.
If lived in the USA I would happily work for this guy - he reminds me of the tradesman that I did my time with.
I hope installers get paid well over there. I've never installed in a crawlspace but I guess thats common every but west coast.
Very common in South Carolina where Ted services. Common in the southeast also.
You're getting soft as you get older. Thxs for the vids!
Termation should be done from layout in manual
I don't see how the bologna cut is safe if somebody falls on that it could kill them
I really don’t like the look of the cement blocks.. I guess that’s one way to do it.
90 % of kids today take absolutely no pride in their work. Everything is hurry up, Get it done and on to the next job.
lax codes where you work.
You need better installers Mr Ted
Have the new guys go with you or watch your videos
Installers, are only as good as they are trained, same as service techs.
You can definitely be better then you're trained if you want to be.
I bet under that house smells like rotten grass! I used to do lanscaping/lawncare, and I can still remember that smell from the mowers.
No primer
I didn't know you could park on the left side of the street like that??!!👎
LOL, it's not legal really in any traffic laws anywhere in the USA that I know of, but, in general low traffic volume allotment like that and it being a service truck/van, nobody will say anything and law wouldn't pay it no mind, so long as it's not blocking traffic/emergency services ;)
